Matches to Make After UFC 207

Amanda Nunes set out to show the world that Ronda Rousey had no business being in the cage with her. Mission accomplished. Nunes annihilated Rousey in less than a minute, as she retained the Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight title with a scintillating first-round technical knockout in the UFC 207 main event on Friday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Rousey succumbed to punches 48 seconds into Round 1. She might as well have squared off with an 18-wheeler. Rousey advanced at the start and engaged the American Top Team standout in the center of the cage. She was met with a ferocious onslaught of accurate, power punches. Rousey tried and failed to clinch with the champion, only to be denied and fed further punishment. Nunes threw 47 strikes by FightMetric count and landed 27 of them before referee Herb Dean had seen enough. He gave Rousey every chance to recover, but the tide was not to be turned. In the aftermath of UFC 207 “Nunes vs. Rousey,” here are five matches that ought to be made: Amanda Nunes vs.

UFC 207: By the Numbers

If UFC 207 turns out to be Ronda Rousey ’s swan song, Amanda Nunes made sure it was a most unceremonious farewell. The reigning bantamweight queen routed the returning Rousey in Saturday’s main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, winning via technical knockout just 48 seconds after the bout began. Once Nunes connected with the first clean blow, Rousey looked just as shell-shocked as she did against Holly Holm at UFC 193, and the Olympic judoka never had a chance to recover. While it could be the end of an era for women’s MMA in the UFC, it appears that Nunes’ reign is just getting started. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 207, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com. 48: Seconds needed by Nunes to dispatch Rousey, the third fastest KO/TKO in UFC women’s bantamweight history. The fastest two such victories belonged to Rousey: vs. Bethe Correia at UFC 190 (34 seconds) and vs. Alexis Davis at UFC 175 (16 seconds). 7: Victories for Nunes moving her out of a tie with Rousey and into sole possession of the most wins in UFC women’s bantamweight history.

In the second round, Tate came out aggressive but missed with her punch. Tate shot in and got the big takedown. She managed to move to half guard. Holm tried to get out of the position, worked to move towards the cage. Tate stayed on top, at one point attacked the arm for the submission. She landed some big elbows to the face of Holm. Dominick Cruz tasted defeat for only the second time in his long career at UFC 207 as he lost the UFC bantamweight title to Cody Garbrandt. The fight was almost the opposite of what many had expected with Cruz unable to catch Cody and getting caught with a lot of hard shots from Garbrandt.

The Walkmen: UFC 207 ‘Nunes vs. Rousey’

UFC 207 marked the return of Ronda Rousey. Aside from her electrifying entrance, it did not go well for the former Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight titleholder. Rousey succumbed to the savagery of reigning champion Amanda Nunes in the main event on Friday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the Brazilian bringing it to a close with punches 48 seconds into Round 1. Rihanna’s “American Oxygen” brought Nunes to the cage, while Rousey went with her customary track -- Joan Jett and The Blackhearts’ “Bad Reputation” -- ahead of her first appearance in more than a year. Other standout musical choices at UFC 207 included Queen’s “We Will Rock You” (Cody Garbrandt), Motley Crue’s “Shout at the Devil” (Ray Borg), Harry Belafonte’s “Banana Boat” (Alex Garcia), Chubby Checker’s “Let’s Twist Again” (Antonio Carlos Jr.), Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Can’t Stop” (T.J. Dillashaw) and Korn’s “Falling Away from Me” (Marvin Vettori). A rundown of the remaining tracks follows: UFC 207 Walkout Songs Dominick Cruz: Blue Foundation | “Eyes on Fire” John Lineker: Ultimata Geraca | “Chega de Religiao” Dong Hyun Kim: Dom Omar feat.

NBA’s Lebron James Offers Insight Into Ronda Rousey’s Latest Loss

“In sports, in general, they build you up as high as they can, put you on the highest mountain in the world, just to tear you down. That’s coming from somebody who has experienced it. And that’s exactly what she’s going through right now. That’s a fact. I know exactly how she feels because I was that athlete. I went through that. You don’t know her mindset. You don’t know the drive. Is the drive still there? You don’t know. But you can tell that it’s built and built and built and built and built. They always make the teardown story more important than how long it took for her to actually get to the mountaintop.”

BREAKING | Tyron Woodley and Michael Bisping agree to 180-pound super fight in May | BJPenn.com

Though it’s certainly exciting that the two champs have agreed to this fight, whether or not this fight actually happens will ultimately be decided by the UFC. Given that Woodley has two dangerous contenders in Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia on his plate, and that Bisping has a bout with Yoel Romero on the horizon, it’s possible that the UFC opts to go in a different direction for both men and that their recently negotiated showdown remains in the realm of the hypothetical. Time will tell.

UFC 207 Bonuses: Nunes, Garbrandt, Cruz, Garcia Receive $50K Awards

No one can overlook Amanda Nunes now. “The Lioness” earned a well-deserved $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for her shellacking of returning ex-champion Ronda Rousey in the UFC 207 main event on Friday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A series of clean left and right hands from had Rousey out on her feet in a hurry, bringing an end to the contest just 48 seconds into the first round. Meanwhile, Cody Garbrandt and Dominick Cruz received “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their enthralling bantamweight title bout in the evening’s co-headliner. Ultimately it was Garbrandt who solved the Cruz riddle, flooring “The Dominator” twice in the fourth stanza and landing hard shots throughout the contest en route to a unanimous decision triumph. Finally, Alex Garcia earned the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his wicked first-round knockout of Mike Pyle in a preliminary welterweight affair. An overhand right from “The Dominican Nightmare” landed flush on Pyle’s jaw, knocking him unconscious and sending his head bouncing off the canvas 3:34 into the opening stanza.
