Bellator champ Patricio Freire says UFC’s Reebok deal ‘is good for every MMA fighter, except those in the UFC’

"Bellator is growing, and will become the best MMA organization in the world. They are not doing as many cards as they used to do before. It was every week before, and now they’ll only do 14 stacked cards this year. It’s going to be like PRIDE. We will have to wait a while for a new show, and it’s going to be a great one. Fans will get excited for every card. They changed the entrance on that last Bellator card in San Diego, and it was exactly like PRIDE. I loved it."

SUCCESS: Elon Musk Landed A Rocket On A Platform In The Ocean

While other outlets are saying the test was a failure, because the hard landing means that the rocket is probably too damaged to be reused, we think it's still a win. It took a crazy amount of precision to guide the rocket from 50 miles above Earth's surface to a football field-sized platform in the ocean, and then actually land on it.

Watch Benson Henderson Train With Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald

I'm not much of a ball n stick sports fan so I've never heard of Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald, who catches the thing and runs across the line real good according to the internet. But I do enjoy it when sports collide, so here's Larry and Benson Henderson training together. May that training allow him to win all the Foot Bowls this trimester.

Wanderlei Silva to NAC: ‘You Are Lost; You Don’t Know What You Are Doing’

Like most people, Wanderlei Silva has a lot of questions regarding the way the Nevada Athletic Commission handled the drug testing fort Jon Jones ahead of UFC 182. Unlike many observers, “The Axe Murderer” has first-hand experience dealing with the NAC. In September, the UFC and Pride Fighting Championships veteran was handed a lifetime ban and $70,000 fine by the commission for fleeing a random drug test ahead of a scheduled bout against Chael Sonnen at UFC 175. Silva retired prior to the hearing where his punishment was administered, claiming that the UFC took away his “desire to fight.” On Friday, the Brazilian posted a YouTube video blasting the NAC’s drug testing procedures. “You are lost, you don’t know what you are doing,” Silva said in a sub-titled video. “Maybe a fighter tests positive and still fights because it’s in the commission’s interest. But what goes? The law or their interests? This sport has to be regulated. The way it’s going can’t continue. This commission is a mess. They don’t know what they are [doing].” Earlier this week, it was revealed that Jones tested positive for cocaine metabolites during a pre-fight drug screening on Dec.

The Maine-iac: A Sherdog Retrospective - A Maine-iac of Many Names

Two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia wanted the MMA world's respect. | Peter Lockley/Sherdog.com Tim Sylvia . “The Maine-iac,” “The Grizzly Bear.” Big Tim, the champ. Timmeh. People have had a lot of names for the man over his 14-year pro MMA career, and not all of them have been flattering. After all, the man's manager and closest confidant, Monte Cox, openly called him “polio legs” for years. He has one of the most complicated, fraught identities in the sport's history; to say Tim Sylvia was not your “average MMA fighter” would be a gross understatement. Maybe he should have been, but he wasn't. On Jan. 3, when the 40-year-old former UFC heavyweight champion called it a career, it was newsworthy. After weighing in at 371 pounds for a fight with Juliano Coutinho under the Reality Fighting banner, the Mohegan Department of Athletic Regulation's neurologist advised the commission to not allow Sylvia to compete based on his MRI result . Sylvia's decision to hang up the gloves came directly on the heels of the disappointing news, but it wasn't newsworthy just for that reason.

The Doggy Bag: Helluva Drug Edition - Helluva Drug Edition

I like to think that I'm a big sports fan and so I have witnessed lots of athletes in football, soccer, basketball and other sports I love get caught up in the party lifestyle. I honestly believe Jones is different, though. He is the pound-for-pound champion of MMA and the biggest superstar the UFC has right now. How does Reebok feel about its deal with the UFC now? I don't think any company wants an athlete perceived as a cokehead to be the face of their brand. MMA is not the "cool" new sport any more and I suspect that Jones' image problems could move the UFC to where the NBA was 15 years ago, when people stopped watching because the league was perceived to be full of thugs and hooligans. The longer Jones and the UFC let the problem grow, the worse off the sport is. -- Tay from North Carolina

TJ Dillashaw: 'Conor McGregor is Gonna Get a Shot at the Title Quicker Than He Deserves' (Video) | MMAWeekly.com

I’m happy for TJ, that was a great win over Barao but he needs to STFU. He fell into a title shot because Assuncao was injured and he was one of the only bantamweights healthy and ready to go, it was good timing and bit of luck. The only Top 10 Bantamweights TJ has fought is Renan Barao and Assuncao whom he lost to (although I think TJ deserved the win). He never fought guys like Cruz, Mcdonald, Wineland, Mizugaki, Alcantra or his buddy Faber. I’m not saying TJ isn’t good but his path to the title wasn’t all that different than Mcgregors. Its more about right place right time when contenders get title shots a lot of times. Khabib should be fighting Pettis but he’s hurt. His loss is Dos Anjos’ gain. Aldo has beaten everybody in the FW division except Conor so why the hell not give him a shot? If he loses then I’m sure Edgar will get another crack at Aldo. Strike while the iron is hot as they say! More eyeballs will be watching Aldo vs McGregor than Aldo vs Edgar 2. Guaranteed. Conor/Aldo doesn’t clog up the division either, if anything it gives it a chance to sort out another rematch for Aldo.

22 By The Numbers: The Best of Embedded

Last year, the UFC introduced a new behind-the-scenes video blog series called “Embedded”. Starting with UFC 173 in May, camera crews followed fighters at the top of the forthcoming pay-per-view card and UFC President Dana White to show insight into their fight week preparations, activities and, sometimes, shenanigans. Covering eight events across 46 episodes, here are 10 of the most memorable moments from Embedded thus far. 10. Fighters playing videogames  EA Sports UFC creative director Brian Hayes was put in an interesting situation on UFC 174’s episode two where three of the real-life versions of playable characters of the videogame he made played as “themselves”. UFC Hall of Famers Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin, as well as top-ranked UFC light heavyweight Daniel Cormier, took Hayes’ game for a test ride. The scene provides some laughs, from Liddell and Griffin’s opposing playing styles to Cormier’s disbelief that his playable self could get knocked out by a front kick to the face. But the funniest part is Griffin admitting he lied to the game makers about his age.

UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver fight card

It's going to be a full day of sports in the Boston area next Sunday, as the NFL's New England Patriots try and reach the Super Bowl once again, and the UFC comes to town with a Fight Night event headlined by Ireland's Conor McGregor. A win for McGregor over Dennis Siver nets him a title shot against featherweight champion Jose Aldo. In the co-main event, Donald Cerrone takes his 2nd fight in as many weeks, as he replaces Eddie Alvarez and once again is paired up with Ben Henderson. While Cerrone has been on a tear through the lightweight division, he's 0-2 against Henderson from their days as WEC rivals.

UFC lightweight Ben Henderson holds off on potential move to welterweight

It's a huge, arguably must-win for Henderson if he aims to remain a contender in the 155 lbs division. Staring down a potential 2-3 skid could be the end of Henderson's time at the top, while a 3rd straight win over his WEC rival Cerrone puts him back "in the mix" of the title picture.
