Floyd Mayweather Says He Offered Conor McGregor $15 Million, PPV Points for Boxing Match

Shortly after he become lightweight champion at UFC 205, Conor McGregor said he would need $100 million to face pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match. “Money” claims he recently made a counter offer to McGregor. And while it wasn’t in the $100 million ballpark -- that’s Mayweather territory, according to the man himself -- it was an impressive figure nonetheless. “We tried to make the Conor McGregor fight,” Mayweather said on ESPN’s “First Take” on Wednesday. “They know what my number is. My number was a guaranteed $100 million. That was my number. We’re the A-side. I don’t know how much money Conor McGregor has made. I’m pretty sure he hasn’t even made $10 million in an MMA bout. We are willing to give him $15 million and then we could talk about splitting the percentage, the back end percentage on pay-per-view.” McGregor earned a disclosed $3 million payday for his victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in August. Salaries from UFC 205, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, were not released. The Dublin native recently received a boxing license in California but remains under contract with the UFC, which means the Las Vegas-based organization has exclusive rights to promote his fights.

UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell thinks if the UFC makes Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor, it should be like many pay-per-view main events and feature an interim title.

'The Herd': Dana White makes offer to Floyd Mayweather to fight Conor McGregor | FOX Sports

“First of all let’s cut the B.S. right from the get go — (Floyd Mayweather) hasn’t talked to anybody about this fight. You’re talking to somebody about the fight, you’re talking to me. I’m the promoter. Conor McGregor is under contract to me. To say that Conor McGregor hasn’t made $8 million or $10 million in a fight, wrong again. To think that you’re the ‘A’ side — how are you the ‘A’ side?” White said.

7’s 2016 All-Violence Team - 2016 All-Violence Team

There has been a lot of talk this week about whether or not this sport we love really constitutes “one of the arts.” This is the All-Violence Team, and these are MMA’s truest artists. If you are uninitiated and need a thorough account of the All-Violence Team and its goals, you can get your questions answered here . If all you want is a short explanation, I’ll refer you to this team’s mission statement, courtesy of poet Ezra Pound: “The modern artist must live by craft and violence. His gods are violent gods. Those artists, so called, whose work does not show this strife, are uninteresting.” From strawweight to heavyweight, these are the 27 athletes who authored the knockouts, submissions and battles that won our hearts and minds in 2016. This is a roster comprised of the fighters who most intimately and personally made MMA worth watching, whether with textbook fundamentals or exotic techniques. They kicked the most ass and did it in the most thrilling, engrossing way. That is not to say there are no master strategists on this list, as many of MMA’s most violent athletes are clever tacticians, but this team is more about the politics of confrontation than contemplation.

The Bottom Line: UFC’s Mexico Hopes Hang on Yair Rodriguez

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Yair Rodriguez on Sunday in Phoenix will compete in the most important bout in Ultimate Fighting Championship history for a Mexican-born fighter. B.J. Penn , the celebrated former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion, returns to action for only the second time in over four years. Part of the reason Penn is so popular is that throughout his career he has fought pretty much exclusively against consequential fighters. The UFC’s decision to match Penn against Rodriguez is a signal that it sees big-time potential in the 24-year-old Mexican competitor. The stakes have been ratcheted up by the time and place: a main event slot on a Fox Sports 1 show after the NFL on Fox, a position that has led to big ratings in the past. This is a huge opportunity for Rodriguez, a chance to create the UFC’s first genuine Mexican-born star.

Carpenter Suffers Concussion, Bout vs. Hardy Scratched from Invicta FC 21

The bout between Brieta Carpenter and Heather Hardy , scheduled for this Saturday’s Invicta FC 21 card, has been scrapped. Promotion officials announced the news Tuesday evening. Carpenter suffered a concussion while training and was forced to withdraw from the bout. With the fight less than a week away, Invicta FC officials were unable to locate a suitable replacement for Hardy, a popular unbeaten professional boxer who has captured title belts in two different weight classes. It was supposed to be the Brooklyn native’s MMA debut. UFC veteran Elizabeth Phillips has agreed to fight Leah Letson on short notice, bringing the Invicta FC 21 event back up to eight total bouts. The card will be headlined by a featherweight showdown between Charmaine Tweet and Megan Anderson , while Pannie Kianzad will square off with Raquel Pa’aluhi in the co-feature. Invicta FC 21 will take place inside the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo., and will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Ricardo Ramos Draws Michinori Tanaka for Octagon Debut at UFC Fight Night 104

Ricardo Lucas Ramos , who was featured on a recent episode of the “Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight” reality show, has his first fight inside the Octagon lined up. After submitting Alfred Khashakyan in August, Ramos was signed by the Las Vegas-based MMA powerhouse, and it was recently revealed that his promotional debut will come against Shooto veteran Michinori Tanaka at UFC Fight Night 104 . The UFC confirmed the bantamweight pairing on Wednesday. Ramos made his way into the Legacy Fighting Championship cage in 2015. After going 2-0 for the promotion, the Brazilian suffered his first pro loss when he was submitted by Manny Vazquez at Legacy FC 51 last February. However, Ramos bounced back with the rear-naked choke win over Khashakyan and now finds himself gearing up for his UFC debut. Tanaka has gone 2-2 inside the Octagon. The Japanese submission ace is coming off a loss to Rani Yahya at UFC Fight Night 95 in September. UFC Fight Night 104 goes down on March 4 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Headlining the event will be a featherweight scrap between Dennis Bermudez and Chan Sung Jung while Alexa Grasso versus Felice Herrig will serve as the co-feature.

Manny Pacquiao to Fight Jeff Horn for WBO Welterweight Title on April 23

It looks like future Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao is going to remain an active boxer as the Filipino senator is set to fight virtual unknown Jeff Horn. The bout will take place on April 23, though a city and venue have yet to be determined. Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, tweeted a few days ago that he is receiving offers for the fight from Australia, Russia and the U.S., though “The Land Down Under” seems to be the leading candidate as Horn is a superstar in his Aussie homeland. The bout will be for “Pac Man’s” WBO welterweight title; Horn is currently the No. 2-ranked contender for the sanctioning body at that weight. Arum said that he expects to have a definitive location set in stone in the coming weeks and that if the bout, which could be Pacquiao’s last, is held in Australia, it could become the biggest fight that continent has ever seen.

LFA 1 results: Leandro Higo wins inaugural 135 title against gritty, won't-go-away Steven Peterson

Butler taps out Vasquez, Holden splits with Servin When Rob Butler (2-0) took Jessie Vasquez (2-2) down three minutes into their featherweight fight, he had to have gotten the feeling the fight was his for the taking. Vasquez was visibly wiped out, and Butler bided his time and earned a submission finish with 24 seconds left in the first round in an historic bout – the first in LFA history. Vasquez threw kicks early. But after only a couple of them, Butler caught one, then held on to Vasquez’s right leg while he landed right hands to his face. A few seconds later, he dropped Vasquez to the canvas and landed some more punches. Vasquez got back to his feet and again worked kicks, but Butler landed a few big lefts, then a right, then scooped Vasquez up for a slam. That pattern continued, and after the third takedown, Butler was on cruise control and heading toward the tapout win.

Submission of the Year: Miesha Tate Submits Holly Holm

Going up to welterweight for the matchup, Diaz was game to take on the UFC’s biggest moneymaker on whatever terms were necessary, and he showed up to fight on that fateful March night. After weathering an early storm in round one, the Stockton bad boy came back with a vengeance against the Irish superstar in the second frame. Diaz was able to rock McGregor with some crisp punches, forcing the champ to scramble for a new game plan. Taking advantage of the situation, Diaz outplayed McGregor on the ground, securing the tap out with a vicious rear-naked choke. In typical Diaz style, the MMA vet had one thing to say following the win, “I’m not surprised motherf—kers.”

Skip Bayless: Floyd Mayweather is afraid of Conor McGregor | FOX Sports

“What a bunch of delusional bluster from Floyd May-or-may-not-Weather Jr. He can sell this bologna to the people he pays to say yes to him, who surround him and hang around him all day long but I am not going to buy it because it’s obviously what Floyd May-or-may-not-Weather is doing. He’s making an insultingly low offer to Conor McGregor because there is no way he wants any part — even boxing under boxing rules — of Conor McGregor, who is now the baddest man on this planet. He is afraid of Conor McGregor.

Opinion: Moving on Up

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * This week, former Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos announced his intention to move up 15 pounds to welterweight, joining Donald Cerrone , who he thrashed in 66 seconds in a title defense 13 months ago. Citing new challenges and the severity of his current weight cut, Dos Anjos is an interesting addition in the increasingly large group of fighters who have made the call to move up as of late. While his skill could easily carry him to the upper echelon of the division, just how far he can go is a bit of a question mark compared to fighters who have had success moving up. The obvious comparison, for the aforementioned reasons, is Cerrone, who moved up to welterweight several weeks after their title fight and quickly became a top contender. Cerrone, however, has significant height and reach over Dos Anjos.

“He got under my skin so much that I’m just going to go ahead and fight the dude,” Woodley said on the newest edition of “The Morning Wood Show” podcast with cohost Din Thomas. “He got under my skin that bad where I don’t even care about the ration and the money and what fight makes the most sense. ‘The UFC Will Re-Sign Brock Lesnar After Suspension, Because They Need PPV Stars’

“If Rousey decided to hang it up, they got only Conor McGregor. Now, Conor’s not going to fight for a very long time anymore. I think this guy needs to be in movies also. I think he probably will be a really good actor as well. So I think he probably will take that route. I don’t know, he’s got a very competitive spirit in him, so hopefully we see him fight for a few more years. But what if not? What if he gets injured? Boom. I mean there’s nothing compared to it. I mean, you look at Jon Jones who’s a phenomenal athlete, who by the way also has to wait until he comes back, and he draws good pay-per-view numbers, but not what McGregor and Rousey are doing. They need another person. And the only other person that’s there, is Brock Lesnar. And that’s why I’m thinking they’ll go after him.”
