UFC Fight Night 124 Bonuses: Stephens, Choi, Elkins, Reyes Receive $50K Checks
Jeremy
Stephens and Doo Ho Choi
were expected to put on a show, and it was certainly fun while it
lasted.
Stephens and Choi received “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000
apiece for their featherweight showdown in the UFC
Fight Night 124 headliner at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis
on Sunday. After a closely contested first round, Stephens dropped
“The Korean Superboy” with a right hand to the temple early in the
second period. From there, the veteran slugger unloaded with
ferocious ground-and-pound, bringing an end to the contest 2:36
into round two.
Elsewhere, Darren
Elkins garnered a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for
a come-from-behind victory over Michael
Johnson in a featured featherweight affair. Johnson appeared to
be in control in round one, as he used his superior speed and
quickness to batter his opponent on the feet. The tide turned when
Elkins was able to get a takedown in the second stanza, however,
and “The Damage” eventually scrambled to his foe’s back to earn a
rear-naked choke submission at the 2:22 mark.

UFC Fight Night 124 play-by-play and live results
Round 3 – Santiago comes out as the aggressor with kicks and punches, which Burnell counters by catching a kick and looking for the takedown. They’re pressed up against the cage, Burnell still fighting to get the action back to the mat. He finally does 90 seconds in and ends up on top. Santiago can’t seem to figure out what he wants to do from the bottom. He tries turning but settles back flat and throws elbows. Fatigue could be setting in with all the grappling in this fight. With 2 minutes left, Burnell is keeping the pressure on in dominant position with lefts and rights to the body. Burnell is in side control before taking Santiago’s back with 1 minute left. Santiago manages to scramble back to the feet, but Burnell will not give him an inch. He’s stuck to Santiago against the cage and fighting to get it back to the ground in the final 30 seconds. The fight ends with Burnell grinding it out. He really took over the second half of the fight with his grappling. 10-9 Burnell. … 29-28 overall for Burnell.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night ‘Stephens vs. Choi’
Those who engage Jeremy
Stephens on his terms do so at their own peril. Add Doo Ho Choi
to the body of evidence.
Stephens stayed relevant in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight division, as he
dispatched “The Korean Superboy” with punches and elbows in the
second round of their
UFC Fight Night 124 main event on Sunday at the Scottrade
Center in St. Louis. Appearing for the first time since his epic
encounter with Cub Swanson
more than a year ago, Choi bowed out 2:36 into Round 2.
A technical first round that favored Choi gave way to a second in
which neither man offered much in terms of sound defense. Stephens
walked through a front kick to the face and a stepping elbow,
forced the South Korean prospect to fight going backward and let
his power bridge the remaining gap. An overhand right floored Choi
and left him susceptible to the avalanche of blows that followed,
first punches and then elbows. Referee Keith
Peterson , having seen enough, stepped in after a sustained
beating.

UFC Fight Night 124 Prelims: James Krause Pushes Winning Streak to Four Fights in St. Louis
James Krause edges Alex White by unanimous
decision to close out the
#UFCSTL prelims! Right call by the judges? https://t.co/CS8dt2UiIL
— FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX)
January 15, 2018
James
Krause understood his advantages, and he exploited them.
The
World Extreme Cagefighting veteran executed multiple takedowns,
employed suffocating top control and attempted a few submissions
when opportunities arose, as he walked away with a unanimous
decision over Alex White in
the featured
UFC Fight Night 124 prelim on Sunday at the Scottrade Center in
St. Louis. All three cageside judges arrived at the same verdict:
29-28 for Krause (25-7, 6-3 UFC).
White (12-4, 3-4 UFC) shined in the standup exchanges, firing off
three, four and sometimes five punches at a time. Krause’s chin
held up under extreme duress, and his experience paid off. White
failed to disengage from clinches and conceded takedowns at most
inopportune times, his momentum stymied at almost every turn. Even
when takedowns failed, Krause was creative enough to get it to the
ground: He attempted a flying armbar in the third round before
scrambling on top.

Josh Barnett doesn't trust USADA and won't settle, expects four-year suspension
“It’s very frustrating, because I understand the intent of the program. But this doesn’t feel like anything having to do with the intent of the program. This feels like something else, and that’s the trouble. I feel like this isn’t anything about fighter safety or sanctity of sport. This is more about using a witch hunt on a personal level. Maybe punishing people, to them, represents effectiveness (rather) than being about athlete safety and finding issue with tainted supplements.”
