UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver – Winners and losers

Conor McGregor predicted a first round finish against Dennis Siver but had to settle for a TKO win in the second frame instead. The Irishman dominated the main event with an uncanny display of striking savvy coupled with undeniable self-confidence. McGregor made Siver look like he did not deserve to share the cage with him and cemented his claim to Aldo's title. Once McGregor has secured his win, and the roaring crowd was satisfied, he immediately directed his attention towards the Brazilian champion and caused a scene that would only deepen both their pockets in the long haul.

Donald Cerrone's Not Celebrating His Win Over Benson Henderson (Video) | MMAWeekly.com

The kick Benson was using was to me more like a shove or a eye poking hand (ala Jon Jones) than a strike. I dont think the judges even counted it and I’m glad they didnt. I really do like both fighters, ben is an incredible athlete and Cowboy is a great fighter. Benson looked like he dint want to lose, and Cerrone looked like he fought two weeks ago. Hendo needs to start winning fights(he is after all really good) and stop worrying about losing. Cerrone needs to take a couple months between fights. Cowboy should have clearly won that fight, but instead he won it with an arguable decision. Looked like the old Cowboy :/

UFC Boston Fighter Bonuses: Conor McGregor Earns an Extra $50K For Finishing Dennis Siver | MMAWeekly.com

You nailed it Barry. Siver was absolutely handpicked. IMO, Dana picked the best top 10 punching bag he could to hype up the Aldo match, which has to happen fast because of all the media attention McGregor is getting. He doesn’t deserve a title shot yet in my mind, but the UFC knows that the Aldo fight will be as big, or bigger in PPV sales than Jones/Cormier was. The 1 thing they do right is make bank lol.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night ‘McGregor vs. Siver’

Conor McGregor will face the stiffest test of his career in Jose Aldo. | Photo: Jeff Botari/UFC/Zuffa/Getty All the hype and hysterics mask one inconvenient truth for Conor McGregor detractors: The man is one heck of a mixed martial artist. McGregor ripped through Dennis Siver in the UFC Fight Night “McGregor vs. Siver” main event on Sunday at TD Garden in Boston, as he staked his claim as the No. 1 contender in the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight division with a crowd-pleasing second-round technical knockout. Siver wilted 1:54 into round two, with the Irishman dropping elbows and punches from full mount. Just as many had feared, the headliner was not competitive. McGregor bludgeoned his stocky counterpart with straight left hands, leaving him with substantial facial damage after the first round. In the second, he dropped Siver with another straight left, calmly climbed to mount and drove the nails in the figurative coffin. McGregor, 26, has won posted 13 consecutive victories, all but one of them finishes.

Round 1: They exchange kicks, and the crowd is loud as hell. Flashy stuff from McGregor, and Siver gets a few thigh kicks in. Conor slips after throwing a kick. Good movement from Siver, and he ducks under a head kick attempt. Not many punches landing from both. Conor lands a straight left, after a few spinning kicks missed. Left hand from Connor, and he lands a good knee to the head. Left hand lands for Siver. Conor starts clapping, and hits Siver with a kick to the body. Flurry from Siver, but most of it gets blocked. Big left hand from Conor, and Siver decks him with a kick to the body. Takedown attempt from Siver gets stuffed, and he’s starting to find range with left hooks. Conor backing him up, landing good kicks to the body. Straight left from Conor has Siver’s mouthpiece on the ground, and he’s trying to follow up with damage. Herb Dean lets Siver pick up his mouthpiece. Siver gets a takedown, but Conor is up in no time. High kick lands for Conor, and Siver is busted up. Conor has him against the fence, but Siver takes him down. Conor doesn’t even land on his back, and his up again.

'Aldo will be by far the toughest fight of McGregor's career'

"In that moment, it reminded me of when Muhammad Ali was yelling at Joe Frazier to try and get under his skin. Frazier reacted a little differently back then. I love the way Aldo reacted. His presence made this event that much bigger in my opinion because he doesn't come to these events. It made it feel very special and him just smiling and almost looking down on Conor was perfect. This is the champion who is not going to bring himself to the 'joker's' level."

The Conor McGregor era is still green, and the pastures greener still

BOSTON – At the end of the night, Conor McGregor’s head was spinning not from any Dennis Siver kick, but from the three fingers of rare Midleton Irish whiskey that he taunted the media with in the post-fight press conference. He rambled on past closing time until UFC president Dana White finally cut him off. It was a shame, really; McGregor was telling a story about the vertigo his feelings feel when feeling, which held the sober media rapt. Even ol’ Paddy Holohan, sitting right next to him, was getting a kick out of it. We all were. Now, at some point this all may get old. But that time is not yet. Not in Boston, where everything was green as Irish Spring on Sunday night. Not in the featherweight division, which is green with envy. Not in Las Vegas, which is green as the money, and exactly where McGregor is headed next for a title shot against Jose Aldo (who, McGregor informs us, looks like a skinny little Brazilian boy from the favelas ). After a massive PR push, McGregor showcased well against Siver in the main event of UFC Fight Night 59. He stalked the German down and let fly his full artistry.

36
For champ Aldo, a challenger like McGregor is a gift from heaven – or possibly hell

What matters most is that McGregor’s air of inevitability as the challenger the featherweight division has been waiting for is not only still intact, but suddenly more impossible to ignore than ever. McGregor beat Siver, sure, but that part was hardly in doubt. The fun was in seeing how he’d get there (answer: violently), to what extent he’d toy with the aging, overmatched Russian-German along the way (answer: some), and whether he’d press his claim for a shot at Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) when it was all over (answer: um, yeah).

Woodley sick of 'don't leave it in the judges' hands' mentality, issues challenge to 'non fighters'

Now, one fighter has had enough, at least when it comes to hearing it from fans directed at fighters on the wrong side of a bad decision. 2015 Bloody Elbow MMA Scouting Report #1 Featherweight: Tom Duquesnoy

The sky is the limit for this kid. He spent the last few months touring the U.S. and visiting major MMA gyms, learning how high-level fighters in the U.S. train and prepare. He is known for being an extremely hard working in the gym and dedicated to his craft. Duquesnoy screams championship caliber fighter on the level of a Jose Aldo or Georges St. Pierre. Duquesnoy is pretty much UFC ready at this point, and if he wins at BAMMA 18 expect him to be in the UFC by the end of the year. When he hits that next level he very well could find himself on that phenom track where he could be fighting for the UFC Featherweight title as soon as 2017. If he stumbles, it still seems clear that Duquesnoy is a high-level talent and will competing on an elite level.
