ROC 50: Oluwale Bambgose on serving God and why Jon Jones isn't a good Christian

I went back to school because I'm also a father. Forget about my aspirations and dreams, let's be practical. God forbid something happens to me. There needs to be a backup plan. Even though his mom and I aren't together any more, I still take care of my son, and the financial aspect is important. I support him and I have extra taken out of my account to provide for a good college education for him. By the time he's 18, he'll be set for his continuing education right off the bat. Providing the best that I can for him made me want to go back to school to be a more solid father to him. I only get him for half of every week with joint custody, I want to give him everything.

Anderson Silva 'very, very disappointed' in Lyoto Machida and 'Jacare' Souza

"When I go talk to the people in the media, I say I'm not going to fight Lyoto because he's my friend. I'm not going to fight Jacare because he's my friend.  But when those guys go and talk to the media, Lyoto says 'I'd go fight Anderson because I go fight'.  Jacare says "I would fight because I'm a fighter'.  My opinion, I don't like the position of Lyoto and Jacare. Because I'm not going to fight these guys because I'm training with Lyoto for a long time, sometimes I train with Jacare."

Even Vice President Joe Biden seems less than enthusiastic about this portion of Obama’s address — of course, heaven only knows what was running through his mind. ASU Police Officer facing termination speaks out

Typical LIBERAL IGNORANCE. This woman thinks she can do as she wants being a woman and a minority. She thinks only other people should have to follow the rules. She believes that police cannot enforce the rules on her but must do so to others. The officer should not loose his job because some moron got her panties in a wad after being arrested for being STUPID and blocking traffic. I think maybe he should have run over her at least he would be being attacked for a reason not because so bimbo was to IGNORANT to k ow walking in the street is dangerous and illegal.

The Gathering | Exclusive Marketing Event Honoring Top Cult-like Brands

Never afraid to speak his mind, the UFC President Dana White is widely recognized for his openness and accessibility. It should come as no surprise therefore that he is one of the most followed sports personalities with almost three million on Twitter alone. White doesn’t use social media solely to promote fights; instead he uses it to remain closely connected with fans in order to continue delivering them the best experience possible. Amongst his many accolades, in 2014, White was honored as Brand Genius by Adweek and both Sports Business Journal and Business Week have named him one of the most influential people in sports. While much of his life is spent at 30,000 feet, he still makes it a point to know each of his 350 employees, regularly walking the floors of the UFC’s Las Vegas headquarters and stopping at cubicles to talk to employees. The accessibility doesn’t stop at the doors to the office; the same courtesy is extended to fans that spend hours lined up at arena entrances and press conference venues in the hopes of getting a photo or autograph. Passion isn’t something than can be taught in a classroom or bought in a store.

Brendan habitually mispronouncing every major UFC fighter's name on the roster is a nice touch, too. I also want to hear more about Bryan's mad greco skills. I think he should do each episode shirtless.

The Anti-Tolkien - The New Yorker

This month, the author Michael Moorcock celebrated his seventy-fifth birthday, which, as fate would have it, fell in the same month that Peter Jackson closed out his hexology of films that began with “Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship the Ring” and ended with “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” The latter is the third part of Jackson’s “The Hobbit” sequence, a book once considered a delightful fable that has been torn asunder to make its story fit in with the vast continuity of the earlier films, while also trying to honor every one of J. R. R. Tolkien’s footnotes, appendices, and letters. The films are astonishing Hollywood spectacles, and for those of us who grew up reading the books and playing elves in Dungeons & Dragons, it was a thrill seeing those characters realized on screen. Gollum and Sauron and Aragorn were drawn from mythic tropes but are now so integral to science-fiction and fantasy culture that they have become tropes themselves. But Moorcock, one of the most prolific living fantasists, sees Tolkien’s creation as little more than a conservative vision of the status quo, an adventure that brings its hero “There and Back Again,” rather than into a world where experience means you can’t go home again.

Read the UFC's 2015 Athlete Outfitting Policy

Disciplinary Process: Upon discovery of potential fighter misconduct, which may include allegations, arrest, or other formal or informal charges of misconduct, UFC will direct an investigation, which may include interviews and information-gathering from medical experts, law enforcement officers and other relevant professionals. In the case of potential fighter misconduct relating to violent conduct or domestic violence, the fighter may be referred to a third party for a required evaluation. As appropriate, the affected fighter and/or his/her designee will also have the opportunity to provide information on the conduct at issue. Upon conclusion of the investigation, UFC will have full authority to impose disciplinary measures on the fighter as warranted in its sole discretion. Discipline may take the form of fines, suspension, and cessation of service and may include conditions to be satisfied prior to the resolution of the incident. Such discipline may also include suspension for a short period, suspension until resolution of legal charges, or termination of contract. Determination of the appropriate discipline for an incident will be based on the nature of the misconduct and other relevant factors.

UFC on Fox 14 Notebook: Risky Business

Gegard Mousasi has never suffered consecutive defeats as a pro. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Gegard Mousasi understands the inherent risks involved in facing the man with MMA’s most fabled right hand. The onetime Dream and Strikeforce champion will collide with former two-division Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Dan Henderson in the UFC on Fox 14 co-main event on Saturday at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. Mousasi has no plans to join the list of previous H-bomb victims, which includes Mauricio Rua , Michael Bisping and Fedor Emelianenko . Henderson will enter the cage at two-inch reach and one-inch height disadvantages, and “The Dreamcatcher” has designs on exploiting them. “If I punch him first, he won’t be punching me,” Mousasi told Sherdog.com in a pre-fight interview, “so that’s the game plan. I think he matches up very well for me, for my style, especially I think with the distance. On the ground, I feel like I can match up very well also. I don’t feel like I can lose this fight.” Related » UFC on Fox 14 Preview In the twilight of one the greatest careers in MMA history, Henderson has lost four of his past five bouts.

http://www.axs.tv/sports/kenny-rice-a-week-of-inflation-and-deflation-from-the-nfl-to-the-ufc/

HOLD ON! If it is true (as several reports state) the Patriots used a ball that was under inflated giving their future Hall of Fame QB a better grip, then rules were broken. But is it the same as any team or player who bends the rules, as much as they can, to gain an advantage? Would the terribly overmatched Colts have really turned the game around over a slight drop in ball pressure? Is there anyone outside of the great state of Indiana that truly thinks that made such a difference? And how did the refs, who also handled the ball throughout, not detect the nuances if is was as drastically altered as many (too many) are making it out to be now? If it were so, how come the NFL, in their most public relations battered year, not leap in with both feet to declare something, anything?

Gregor Gillespie's path from wrestling, to rehab, to MMA redemption at ROC 50

“To say that someone starts late, what if someone without a wrestling background started fighting at 20, and it takes them six years to come close to the wrestling ability of a decent guy,” he said. “I don’t know (whether I started too late). Nick Diaz on UFC Reebok Deal: ‘It’s Nice to Have Something That’s Not Just an MMA Brand’

Nick Diaz doesn’t have anything bad to say about the UFC’s Reebok deal. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com When the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced in December that it had signed a six-year deal with Reebok to become its official outfitter, fighter reactions were all over the map. Some praised the new agreement, while others were concerned with the long-term financial ramifications. Few were more opinionated than Nate Diaz , who initially blasted the announcement in typical fashion on Twitter and later likened the uniform policy to “a big-ass cult” when speaking to media ahead his bout with Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on Fox 13. Nate’s older brother, Nick Diaz , was much more reserved when asked to reflect on the UFC/Reebok partnership. Diaz meets Anderson Silva in the UFC 183 headliner at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Jan. 31. That highly-anticipated bout has occupied the majority of the Stockton, Calif., native’s time and attention over the course of the past few months, giving him little time to think about how the outfitting policy might affect his future.

Here's what body language experts thought of Jon Jones' Fox Sports interview

“When talking further about not having a drug addiction or problem, we see the fighter smile here and do another eyebrow flash, indicating surprise. Although the smile and surprise could be because he thinks it's absolutely ridiculous because he has no room to have a drug problem or there could be more to the story here,” Driver says. “If I were interviewing him I would ask a question about why the smile and what's so surprising. The reporter then shares information that people who know him are shocked that he had used cocaine and the fighter shows no change in behavior like a smile or a contempt smirk, I'm inclined to believe that he is telling the truth here. However, I would need the follow-up question to make certain.”
