Stacked! Bellator 194: Mitrione vs. "Big Country" Nelson Fight Card And Line Up - MMA Imports

Next month Bellator is bringing the second bout of their heavyweight tournament back to T.V. with a rematch between Roy Nelson and Matt Mitrione.

John Kavanagh: Gunnar Nelson vs. Darren Till offered for UFC Fight Night 127 headliner

“There’s the payday. I’ve got some lawsuit (expletive) that’s still going on. I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but lawyers are very expensive. Also, one doesn’t want to go out on my last fight, that being the lasting impression on my MMA career. Also, I kind of feel that I owe it to the U.K. fans because they were so supportive throughout my career. I always envisioned in my mind having that retirement fight in London, and there it is on a plate. I just need to take it, but everyone around me is telling me not to.”

Matches to Make After Bellator 192

The first bout of the Bellator MMA heavyweight grand prix went about as one might expect, with Chael Sonnen outwrestling Quinton Jackson to earn a unanimous decision triumph in the Bellator 192 headliner at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on Saturday night. Barring injury or other unforeseen circumstance, Sonnen’s fate is already sealed. He will advance to the bracket’s semifinals to face the winner of the Frank Mir vs. Fedor Emelianenko bout, which will take place in April. A new welterweight champion was also crowned on Saturday, as Rory MacDonald earned a hard-fought five-round verdict over Douglas Lima in the evening’s co-main event. Competing in one of the promotion’s deepest divisions, there should be plenty of interesting options on the horizon for “The Red King.” In the wake of Bellator 192, here are five matches that need to be made. Rory MacDonald vs. Andrey Koreshkov : MacDonald has talked about winning Bellator titles in multiple divisions, but his victory over Douglas Lima was difficult enough that a move up doesn’t seem necessary at this point.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Hot Challengers Get Doused

Last year gave us two hot Ultimate Fighting Championship title challengers, but in 2018, Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier are still on top of their divisions. Miocic clobbered anointed challenger Francis Ngannou in the UFC 220 main event on Jan. 20 in Boston, ending his 10-fight winning streak via lopsided 25-minute decision while becoming the first man to defend the heavyweight title three consecutive times. Meanwhile, Daniel Cormier retained his light heavyweight crown and No. 1 spot by pounding out surging Volkan Oezdemir , who tore up the 205-pound division in 2017. Conversely, inactivity plays a large role in our latest update. With perennial heavyweight standouts Ben Rothwell and Josh Barnett awaiting formal discipline from the United States Anti-Doping Agency, both men have been on the sidelines for well over a year and as such drop two spots to ninth and 10th pending their USADA punishments. Meanwhile, former pound-for-pound queen Ronda Rousey is gearing up for a possible pro wrestling career, has not fought for nearly 13 months and may never do so again.

Francis Ngannou: I learned more at UFC 220 than in four years of MMA

“I’ve been in this sport only four years, and I know I’ll keep learning and improving,” Ngannou (11-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) told MMAjunkie after his unanimous decision loss to Miocic (18-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) in the pay-per-view headliner of UFC 220, which took pace Saturday at TD Garden in Boston. “What happened tonight was the last step for me to learn about this sport, because it’s the only thing I’ve never faced – a five-round fight, and how to deal with it. I made a mistake, and that will not happen again.”

Walker: Daniel Cormier Doesn’t Need Jon Jones

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * After successfully defending the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title in the UFC 220 co-main event on Saturday in Boston, Daniel Cormier , overwhelmed by emotion, dropped to his knees as the belt was wrapped around his waist yet again. During his post-fight interview, the champion did not wait long before he brought up a familiar name: Jon Jones . It’s understandable why Cormier was fixated on his chief rival in the aftermath of his victory over Volkan Oezdemir . Before UFC 220, our last image of the American Kickboxing Academy captain was in the form of his tearful display after a well-timed Jones head kick and subsequent ground-and-pound resulted in his being finished for the first time. Of course, Jones was later stripped of the championship and the fight declared a no-contest after the United States Anti-Doping Agency flagged him for suspected use of performance enhancers.

Report: Hawaii Officials Met with UFC in Las Vegas to Discuss 2018 Event

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is getting closer to holding its first-ever event in The Aloha State. According to a report from KHON2 , a “delegation” that including the Hawaii Tourism Authority and Aloha Stadium officials met with the UFC at the promotion’s headquarters in Las Vegas on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of holding an event in Hawaii this year. The meeting reportedly went well, and the Octagon could touch down in the state by the summer or fall. Such a card, of course, would center around the presence of reigning UFC featherweight king Max Holloway , who is scheduled to defend his title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 in Las Vegas on March 3. According to the report, further details of a Hawaiian UFC event will be negotiated after Holloway’s fight. A native of Waianae, Hawaii, Holloway has repeatedly campaigned for the Las Vegas-based organization to travel to his home state. UFC President Dana White admitted that such an event was in the works at a recent press conference to promote UFC 220. “We’re working on UFC Hawaii,” White said.

Carbajal: Keep an Eye on Aaron Pico in 2018

THE BODY SHOT EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT! Watch @AaronPicoUSA's big knockout win from #Bellator192! — Bellator MMA (@BellatorMMA) January 22, 2018 Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * There was plenty of hype behind Aaron Pico when he made his professional mixed martial arts debut under the Bellator MMA banner at Bellator 180 on June 24, and many observers felt it stalled in his upset loss to Zach Freeman . However, the 21-year-old prospect won over fans with how well he handled the setback and held his head high, acknowledging the adjustments he would make by learning from his mistakes. Everyone was aware of Pico’s wrestling pedigree when he signed with Bellator, and it was the focus in the run-up to his debut. His accomplishments in boxing and pankration were mentioned as mere subtitles. Pico indeed has thunder in his fists, as first demonstrated at Bellator 183 in September.

Nate Diaz Teases UFC Return: ‘Sick of Sitting Around Waiting for You F---ers to Do S--t’

Nate Diaz could be making his long-awaited Octagon return in the late spring or early summer. The Stockton, Calif., native teased a comeback via Instagram on Tuesday, targeting May or June for his first fight since August 2016. “Sick of sitting around waiting for you f----ers to do s—t,” Diaz wrote. “There's no excitement in this fight s—t. Step your games up. I'll see u around May, June. Sincerely, The Real Champ.” Diaz last appeared at UFC 202 on Aug. 20, 2016, when he lost a majority decision to Conor McGregor . Diaz’s rivalry with the Irish star that year – he submitted McGregor in the second round of their first meeting at UFC 196 – raised his stock considerably within the Las Vegas-based promotion. Since then, Diaz’s boxing coach said that his fighter would require a $20 to $30 million payday for a trilogy bout against McGregor, which remains one of the most fan-friendly fights should the “Notorious” one elect to fight again in the UFC. Late last year, Diaz was linked to a welterweight title bout against Tyron Woodley at UFC 219 on Dec.

After 'retiring for the holidays,' Matt Brown unsure if Carlos Condit fight will be his last

“A lot of it is going to depend on how I feel throughout the camp,” Brown said. “That’s really the big thing. My mindset wasn’t really there to take the kind of abuse that I’ve been taking.

Kelvin Gastelum feels snubbed by Yoel Romero getting UFC interim title shot

“What I do think set me back was Robert Whittaker getting hurt and them making that matchup for the interim belt,” Gastelum said. “That sets every middleweight back, because the winner is going to have to fight Whittaker. It’s just going to have to be a process for anyone to get a title shot.”

Dana White: UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker in Serious Condition |

UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker had been looking forward to making the first defense of his belt on his home turf, but now the Aussie is fighting a much more serious fight.

Is Stipe Miocic the greatest heavyweight in UFC history after record-breaking title defense?

The rational answer – the one that relies on stuff like proof and evidence – is yes. By dominating Ngannou (11-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC), one of the more electrifying heavyweight contenders in years, Miocic broke a UFC record that stretches back to the VHS days. Three in a row wouldn’t be historic in most other weight classes, but at heavyweight it practically makes you a one-man dynasty.

Demetrious Johnson Only Willing to Face T.J. Dillashaw on ‘Stacked’ Pay-Per-View Card

Reigning flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is ready to sign on the dotted line to defend his crown against T.J. Dillashaw , but the placement of their fight must first meet his requirements. “Mighty Mouse” recently told that he doesn’t want his showdown with Dillashaw to anchor a UFC pay-per-view card. Instead, he prefers that it be part of a “stacked” event that features multiple title fights or a big draw as a headliner. "I'd rather have somebody else [be the] main event, who is going to bring in way more PPVs," Johnson told ESPN. "In my opinion, that's held up the fight on my end. I've seen guys jump on [stacked] PPV cards and make $1.5 million, fighting an inferior opponent than who I'm about to fight. Me and T.J. could fight on a smaller card and pull 275,000 buys, get an extra check for $75,000. My management told me, 'You know what, we'll hold out for a big event.' "A lot of media and fans think that's a way of turning down fights or ducking someone, but that's a way of being a smart businessman and getting the most money you can get.
