Al Iaquinta on Fighting Joe Lauzon at UFC 183: “I Think This is Going to be a Good Fight for Me” | MMAWeekly.com

“I think I’ve been working real hard. I think everywhere the fight goes I’m going to have an advantage. I think he’s very good on the ground, so definitely you want to be wary there, but again I train with some of the best guys in the world at Serra’s Jiu Jitsu, and if it goes to the ground I think I’m going to have an advantage. Standing up I know I have an advantage, wrestling-wise I know I have an advantage. So I think this is going to be a good fight for me,” he said.

UFC Fight Night in Poland Gets Seth Baczynski-Leon Edwards 170-Pound Tilt

Seth Baczynski went 0-2 in 2014. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com A welterweight matchup between Seth Baczynski and Leon Edwards has been added to the UFC Fight Night bill in Poland on April 11. Promotion officials announced the bout on Tuesday. The UFC Fight Night card takes place at the Krakow Arena and marks the Las Vegas-based promotion’s first-ever trip to Poland. The event is headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Mirko Filipovic and Gabriel Gonzaga . Nicknamed “The Polish Pistola,” Baczynski enters the bout having last four of his last five fights. The Power MMA Team representative went 0-2 in 2014, dropping a unanimous decision to Thiago Alveas at UFC on Fox 11 before suffering a first-round knockout loss to Alan Jouban in August. Edwards made his Octagon debut on Nov. 8, when he lost a split decision against Claudio Henrique da Silva at UFC Fight Night “Shogun vs. St. Preux.” That loss ended a six-fight winning streak for the English welterweight.

America doesn't just have one deficit, and Bernie Sanders wants to address seven of them

Sen. Sanders has actually been part of the problem, not the solution, in recent years. His ongoing silence about our actual poverty crisis makes him part of the problem. He used to be a champion for our "surplus population," those who can't work (health, etc.), and those for whom no jobs are available. He then dropped the issue to raise the banner for the better off alone, those who are able to work/have jobs. You gotta sell what those with the money are buying. He appears to now so strongly believe in the corporate state that he thinks everyone is able to work, there are jobs for all who need one, therefore no need for poverty relief. The last I heard, there are 7 jobs for every 10 people who urgently need one. What do you think happens to the 3 who are left behind? I've yet to hear him say anything about the Democrats' attacks on aid for the disabled, seriously ill and the dying.

The Fighter & The Kid

This podcast has jumped to the top of my UFC/MMA podcast list - but c'mon, once a week?. I really feel like Brendan and Bryan should be able to do at least 2 eps a week, or maybe 2 hours a pop - I mean, what else do these guys have to do during the day? Brendan habitually mispronouncing every major UFC fighter's name on the roster is a nice touch, too. I also want to hear more about Bryan's mad greco skills. I think he should do each episode shirtless.

Spike TV President Kevin Kay on Bjorn Rebney: ‘I Was Done With Doing Tournaments’

Bjorn Rebney was committed to the idea of a Bellator tournament. | Keith Mills/Sherdog.com SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Spike TV President Kevin Kay couldn’t be happier with the direction of Bellator MMA since Scott Coker took over for Bjorn Rebney. Since joining the Viacom-owned promotion in June of last year, the former Strikeforce head has made many changes, which were heavily on display at Bellator 131 , the promotion’s final event of 2014, For Kay, the event in San Diego, Calif., officially signaled that Coker’s reign had began. “It’s a huge difference, and I couldn’t be more pleased because I think that Scott -- I think you saw at Bellator 131 that the level of production that he’s committed to is next level,” Kay told Sherdog.com. “I love the big screens; I love innovative production, big dramatic entrances. I feel like that’s what the fans want. How many times can you just bring guys out of the dark into the cage and have them fight? “To have that level of production is just like adding another whole layer of fun,” Kay continued.

UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz fight card

The final event of what has been a terrific January for the UFC takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where Anderson Silva is set to return to the Octagon for the first time since his horrific leg break against Chris Weidman. Silva will go up against Nick Diaz in a special five-round middleweight headliner, with a supporting cast of Kelvin Gastelum/Tyron Woodley in the co-main event, Joe Lauzon battling Al Iaquinta, Tim Boetsch facing Thales Leites, and a great main card opener between Thiago Alves and Jordan Mein.

Silva vs. Diaz: The Pros Call the Fight | FIGHTLAND

Luke Barnatt (UFC middleweight) Silva vs Diaz is the closest thing we've had to a superfight in the UFC for a LONG time! With Anderson’s recent injuries and two failed title fights against Chris Weidman this fight brings a new dimension for him.  A fight that's not for a world title, but a chance to enjoy the experience with no pressures and accept the challenge that stands in front of him.  Nick Diaz has been one of the most entertaining badasses in MMA ever, but with his obvious struggle following the process outside the octagon…missing press conferences etc, he's always been fighting an uphill battle.

Why free speech is fundamental - The Boston Globe

It’s true that free speech has limits. We carve out exceptions for fraud, libel, extortion, divulging military secrets, and incitement to imminent lawless action. But these exceptions must be strictly delineated and individually justified; they are not an excuse to treat speech as one fungible good among many. Despots in so-called “democratic republics” routinely jail their opponents on charges of treason, libel, and inciting lawlessness. Britain’s lax libel laws have been used to silence critics of political figures, business oligarchs, Holocaust deniers, and medical quacks. Even Oliver Wendell Holmes’s famous exception to free speech — falsely shouting “Fire!” in a crowded theater — is easily abused, not least by Holmes himself. He coined the meme in a 1919 Supreme Court case that upheld the conviction of a man who distributed leaflets encouraging men to resist the draft during World War I, a clear expression of opinion in a democracy.

Cris ‘Cyborg’ to Face Charmaine Tweet in Invicta FC 11 Main Event on Feb. 27

”Cyborg” did not fight at all in 2014. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Just one day before Ronda Rousey defends the UFC women’s bantamweight strap against Cat Zingano , would-be foe Cristiane Justino will put her featherweight title on the line against Charmaine Tweet at Invicta Fighting Championships 11 in the same city. Invicta FC announced the featherweight headliner on Tuesday. The eight-bout card takes place at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Feb. 27 and streams in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass. UFC 184 , which includes the Rousey-Zingano co-main event, will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 28. “Cyborg” was originally slated to make her bantamweight debut in December, but an injury knocked her out of Invicta FC 10. The former Strikeforce champion then scrapped her plans to move to 135 pounds entirely, telling Tatame that she would only fight at featherweight or at a catch-weight in the future. That decision seemed to end any hopes for a dream showdown between “Cyborg” and Rousey. However, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta recently told ESPN.

Click here to support Team Sofia by Jacy Jarrell

Cancer is  not a word any parent likes to think about, but this dirty disease has recently been on a lot of our minds. As many of you may know, sweet Sofia Anderson, 2 year old daughter of Patrick and Catalina Anderson has been diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastoma. They are such a strong family, but they have a long road ahead of them. They will be recieving chemotherapy at All Children's  Hospital in St Pete, where they are currently staying.  It is an incredibly heart-wrenching experience to have to watch your child go through any pain, much less being told they will have to battle the big C.  Cat and Pat have touched so many of our lives with their kindness and friendship. I know many people have been asking how they can help. Staying in the hospital for such a long time is not only  emotionally exhausting but also financially draining. Any donations towards little Sofia's care would be greatly appreciated.

Sara McMann: Title fight against Rousey helped save her father’s life

As she gets set to fight Miesha Tate this weekend at UFC 183 in Las Vegas, Sara McMann is finally talking about the extraordinary events that surrounded her UFC 170 title fight with Ronda Rousey . Namely, that her father, who was content to play out the string and die when his cancer came back, opted to go through a course of chemotherapy again to see his daughter fight for the belt. McMann appeared on the MMA Hour on Monday and discussed the turn of events that convinced her father to continue his fight against his lymphoma. "He chose not to do chemotherapy, so he was just choosing that he was going to live with the cancer until it killed him…and the cancer that had come back was very aggressive," she told Ariel Helwani. "He’d gone months of deciding that he wasn’t going to go through chemotherapy and he wasn’t going to live. The fight happened, and it was basically presented to me as, if you don’t take this fight you may never get a chance to fight Ronda, that she may go into movies and this might be the only opportunity. I was really struggling with it, because I hadn’t been training.

Igor Pokrajac among five fighters released from the UFC

Pokrajac (25-12, 1 no-contest) leaves the promotion after going winless over the past five fights. The Croatian light heavyweight, who won three in a row at one point of his UFC career, lost to Marcos Rogerio de Lima , Rafael Cavalcante , Ryan Jimmo , Joey Beltran and Vinny Magalhaes . His decision loss to Beltran was later overturned to a no-contest after his opponent tested positive for banned substances. He was 4-7 with one no-contest in his UFC tenure.

Daniel Cormier says a bout with Alexander Gustafsson makes sense

Realistically, he's right. There's a pretty big drop off after the top five, so if Jones defeats Johnson and stays at light heavyweight, his next opponent is likely a rematch. A win over Gustafsson puts him right back into that spot. Would the UFC book either him or Rashad against Cormier at this point? It seems pretty likely.

Jake Shields says WSOF champ Rousimar Palhares is 'dirty,' wants to prove Dana White wrong

"Anything is possible. So to say I'm not going to worry about it, it's possible. That would be stupid of me, but I'm not particularly worried. I have great leg locks myself. I would love to go out there and to try to leg lock him back. Usually he goes in there with guys that don't know what they're doing, so he's playing someone that can't attack him back."
