Neatorama

Matthias Wandel ( previously at Neatorama) built a mouse maze last year, which got him wondering how small of a hole a mouse can get his whole body through. To find out, he built a mousetrap with different-sized holes and set up a camera to catch any mouse trying it out. Mice did come by, and they learned that the peanut butter bait was easier to retrieve through the larger holes, and there was no need to try the smallest hole. Mice are not dumb. You can follow the timeline of his experiments here . But the unexpected part was when a shrew showed up for some peanut butter, and that little fellow was much hungrier.

Megan Anderson: Promotion Wants to Book Cyborg Fight, But Not at UFC 221

Cristiane Justino might’ve jumped the gun when she said the UFC had offered her a title defense against Megan Anderson at UFC 221. According to Anderson, the Las Vegas-based promotion wants to book her against “Cyborg” — just not at UFC 221. Earlier, Justino took to Instagram to announced she had accepted a fight against the Invicta champion. “I didn’t realize you can accept a fight that’s never been offered to you,” Anderson wrote on Twitter. “Cris nor her team have been offered a fight against me at UFC Perth despite the rumors. “The UFC are looking to book this fight, but since the UFC Perth card is already completely booked, it will not be happening in six weeks.” Anderson and Justino were initially slated to square off in July, but Anderson had to withdraw from the bout due to personal reasons. The Queensland, Australia, native has won her last four bouts under the Invicta FC banner. Most recently, Anderson scored a second-round TKO of Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 21 to claim the promotion’s interim featherweight title.

UFC Anti-Doping Exec Doesn't Believe Jon Jones Intentionally Cheated | MMAWeekly.com

Jon Jones is currently in the midst of the adjudication of the second UFC Anti-Doping Policy violation of his career. The UFC’s leading expert on anti-doping and the man charged with assisting athletes mired in a potential violation, Jeff Novitsky, doesn’t think that Jones intentionally cheated when he popped hot for a second time.

Stipe didn't really have many struggles. He had a slip up vs Struve over 5 years ago and lost a very close hard fight with JDS. He also has legends like Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt on his resume. This fight with Francis is going to be awesome!

UFC's Jeff Novitzky optimistic Nick Diaz will fight again

“I highly doubt it,” White said. “I don’t know. I honestly don’t think that, and I can’t speak for him, you’d have to speak with Nick himself, but if you ask me – people ask me, ‘Do you think Ronda (Rousey) is coming back?’ No. I think Ronda’s going to retire. Ronda hasn’t retired, but my opinion is, I think she will. I don’t think Nick Diaz will ever fight again. I just don’t think he has the desire anymore.

Walker: Holly Holm an All-Time Great, Just Not in MMA

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Ahead of UFC 219 on Saturday in Las Vegas, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White declared that Holly Holm would be on the greatest-of-all-time short list with a win over featherweight champion Cristiane Justino . The fact that Holm lost a competitive but definitive decision to “Cyborg” has muted this brief discussion. Despite White’s declaration likely being a product of hyperbolic promotion and his affinity for crowning pay-per-view headliners with fictitious titles, an interesting question was raised. Where does Holm rank among the all-time greats in mixed martial arts? When the name of the former women’s bantamweight champion is brought up for discussion, most people are likely to remember how she earned that title. Her shocking head kick knockout of the previously unbeaten and seemingly invincible Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 will live forever on highlight reels and goes down as one of the single greatest moments in MMA history.

Megan Anderson dismisses Cris Cyborg's claim of UFC 221 title fight as ‘fake news’ (Updated)

I didn't realise you can accept a fight that's never been offered to you… Cris nor her team have been offered a fight against me at UFC Perth by the UFC despite the rumours. The UFC are looking to book this fight, but since the UFC Perth card is already completely booked, it will not be happening in 6 weeks. They can say whatever, can try make me look whatever they like, try and say someone else deserves this fight, but one thing is certain: this is the only fight that needs to happens and it will happen, soon…

Carbjal: ‘Cyborg’ Upgraded

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * The Internet is a great source for quick information, but it can also be a den for trolling, insults and bullying. It seems that no matter what Cristiane Justino accomplishes, she will always be criticized for what is perceived to be a minus to her many pluses. In the UFC 219 main event on Saturday in Las Vegas, the powerful “Cyborg” showed she could be patient and cerebral against the most skilled women in the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight division. Before she faced Holly Holm in the final UFC event of 2017, it looked to be a fairly even matchup. The argument could have been made that Holm on paper held the edge in the striking department because of her extensive background as a pro boxer. “Cyborg” appeared the have the advantages in the clinch and grappling departments, with the ability to hunt for takedowns, work some ground-and-pound or even sink a submission -- a weakness in Holm’s game that had been exposed before.

Jessica Aguilar vs. Livia Renata Souza, Three Other Bouts Added to UFC Fight Night 126

Four new contests have been added to the UFC Fight Night 126 lineup, including a strawweight clash pitting Jessica Aguilar against Livia Renata Souza . The UFC on Wednesday announced that bout and three additional pairings: Geoff Neal vs. Brian Camozzi at welterweight; Sarah Moras vs. Lucie Pudilova at bantamweight and Joby Sanchez vs. Roberto Sanchez at flyweight. UFC Fight Night 126 takes place at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin Texas on Feb. 18 and is headlined by a welterweight showdown between Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros . A former World Series of Fighting titlist, Aguilar has dropped back-to-back decisions against Claudia Gadelha and Cortney Casey-Sanchez in her first two Octagon appearances. Souza, who previously held Invicta FC 115-pound gold, is 11-1 as a professional, with her only defeat coming at the hands of Angela Hill in May 2016. Neal punched his ticket to the Octagon with a first-round technical knockout of Chase Waldon at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 3 on July 25.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Rizin Champs on Rise

After UFC 219 , the women’s featherweight division remains the same. However, the events of Rizin Fighting Federation ’s New Years’ festivities have shaken up the atomweight rankings in unexpected ways. Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas made the first defense of her Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s featherweight title, hammering out a diligent and clear unanimous decision over former bantamweight queen Holly Holm . This result was largely expected. Hours later, Rizin concluded its men’s bantamweight and women’s 108-pound -- yes, we are sensitive to the weight discrepancy -- tournaments. These brackets wound up making waves. Already our No. 4 flyweight, Kyoji Horiguchi was the focal point of Rizin’s bantamweight grand prix in 2017, returning to the weight class in which he started his career. In a 48-hour span, he crushed and stopped quality fighters Gabriel Leite de Oliveira and Manel Kape before earning a second career win over 135-pound King of Pancrase Shintaro Ishiwatari , one of our bubble-list contenders. Horiguchi’s dual-division credentials cannot be denied, as he takes the No.

Violence, violence and more violence. If that’s the game then Justin Gaethje is the name! Manager Malki Kawa posts an encouraging tweet for fans of Jon Jones | BJPenn.com

Novitzky stated that Jones was tested again after initially testing positive for Turinabol and test results came back negative, which indicates that the “prohibited substance entered his system sometime after July 7th or 8th and it was likely a pretty small amount and that it cleared his system pretty quickly.” Novitzky went on to mention on the podcast that Jones and USADA are still going through the due process and the two sides had a lengthy meeting one or two weeks ago and was told it was “productive.” However, Novitsky clarified that he was not given any details on what “productive” actually meant but assumed that it was an important step in the process.
