Walker: Holly Holm an All-Time Great, Just Not in MMA

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Ahead of UFC 219 on Saturday in Las Vegas, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White declared that Holly Holm would be on the greatest-of-all-time short list with a win over featherweight champion Cristiane Justino . The fact that Holm lost a competitive but definitive decision to “Cyborg” has muted this brief discussion. Despite White’s declaration likely being a product of hyperbolic promotion and his affinity for crowning pay-per-view headliners with fictitious titles, an interesting question was raised. Where does Holm rank among the all-time greats in mixed martial arts? When the name of the former women’s bantamweight champion is brought up for discussion, most people are likely to remember how she earned that title. Her shocking head kick knockout of the previously unbeaten and seemingly invincible Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 will live forever on highlight reels and goes down as one of the single greatest moments in MMA history.

Carbjal: ‘Cyborg’ Upgraded

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * The Internet is a great source for quick information, but it can also be a den for trolling, insults and bullying. It seems that no matter what Cristiane Justino accomplishes, she will always be criticized for what is perceived to be a minus to her many pluses. In the UFC 219 main event on Saturday in Las Vegas, the powerful “Cyborg” showed she could be patient and cerebral against the most skilled women in the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight division. Before she faced Holly Holm in the final UFC event of 2017, it looked to be a fairly even matchup. The argument could have been made that Holm on paper held the edge in the striking department because of her extensive background as a pro boxer. “Cyborg” appeared the have the advantages in the clinch and grappling departments, with the ability to hunt for takedowns, work some ground-and-pound or even sink a submission -- a weakness in Holm’s game that had been exposed before.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Rizin Champs on Rise

After UFC 219 , the women’s featherweight division remains the same. However, the events of Rizin Fighting Federation ’s New Years’ festivities have shaken up the atomweight rankings in unexpected ways. Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas made the first defense of her Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s featherweight title, hammering out a diligent and clear unanimous decision over former bantamweight queen Holly Holm . This result was largely expected. Hours later, Rizin concluded its men’s bantamweight and women’s 108-pound -- yes, we are sensitive to the weight discrepancy -- tournaments. These brackets wound up making waves. Already our No. 4 flyweight, Kyoji Horiguchi was the focal point of Rizin’s bantamweight grand prix in 2017, returning to the weight class in which he started his career. In a 48-hour span, he crushed and stopped quality fighters Gabriel Leite de Oliveira and Manel Kape before earning a second career win over 135-pound King of Pancrase Shintaro Ishiwatari , one of our bubble-list contenders. Horiguchi’s dual-division credentials cannot be denied, as he takes the No.

Megan Anderson dismisses Cris Cyborg's claim of UFC 221 title fight as ‘fake news’ (Updated)

I didn't realise you can accept a fight that's never been offered to you… Cris nor her team have been offered a fight against me at UFC Perth by the UFC despite the rumours. The UFC are looking to book this fight, but since the UFC Perth card is already completely booked, it will not be happening in 6 weeks. They can say whatever, can try make me look whatever they like, try and say someone else deserves this fight, but one thing is certain: this is the only fight that needs to happens and it will happen, soon…

Why UFC's Jeff Novitzky doesn't believe Jon Jones intentionally used steroids

“It would not make a lot of sense for an individual, a UFC athlete, especially a championship contender like Jon Jones who knew, ‘I’m tested quite regularly in this program’ – it would not make a lot of sense that that would be your drug of choice if you’re trying to cheat,” Novitzky said. “I think it’s come out after the fact that USADA did another test on Jon a month or two months after his positive test, and he was negative. So that would be indicative that the prohibited substance entered his system sometime after July 7th or 8th, and that was likely a pretty small amount and that cleared his system pretty quickly.

ONE Championship titleholder Angela Lee says she fell asleep prior to horrific car accident

Dear Family & Friends, On Monday November 6, 2017 I was in a car accident. I woke up early (4:30am) to drive to my gym, which is 5 minutes from my house and in a blink of an eye… I dozed off, woke up and the next thing I knew, my car had hit the guardrail and flipped over about 6 times. I am so grateful that no one else was hurt. It’s also a miracle that I’m still here today, alive and well. I admit that I shouldn’t have been driving if I was tired… At the time however, I was not aware of how tired I really was. This incident was truly an eye opener. Like every obstacle or adversity in life, I will face it and I will overcome it. I will learn from it and it will be used as a lesson. I want to personally thank each and every person for their love, support and words of encouragement during this time. I want to send an apology to my opponent, Mei Yamaguchi, the fans looking forward to the fight and my organization, ONE Championship. It was not my intention to withdraw from this fight and I will be back. Although I will not be fighting on the 24 November card in Singapore, I will still be in attendance, showing my support.

UFC Bans Jackson-Wink Photographer for Referring to ‘Cyborg’ as a Man on Social Media

Tonight my brother from another mother @brownbomber_mma goes to battle in the cage on the east coast. Let's do this! UPDATE: Wil earned a 34 second TKO in the very 1st round! Way to go buddy! A post shared by Mark A. Aragon (@ma2_media) on Jun 30, 2017 at 1:22pm PDT Jackson-Wink MMA photographer Mark Aragon won’t be attending any more UFC events after referring to women’s featherweight champion Cristiane Justino as a man in an Instagram post. “UFC is aware and troubled with the recent statements made by a social media representative from the Jackson-Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico as it concerns women’s featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg. UFC does not condone or tolerate the remarks that were used,” read a statement initially sent to on Tuesday. “The organization has reached out to the Jackson-Wink team to inform them that the individual in question will not be granted access for future events.” After Jackson-Wink MMA standout Holly Holm lost a five-round verdict to “Cyborg” at UFC 219, Aragon posted a photo of the Brazilian on his Instagram with the following caption: “This dude is tough as hell! That being said at the press conference he said Holly was the first one to make his nose bleed.

Doo Ho Choi hopes to achieve big goal before his mandatory military service begins |

Should Choi win this fight with Stephens, he’ll vault up the UFC featherweight rankings in the direction of a title shot. And while he’ll likely need another few wins beyond Stephens to secure that shot, he’s hoping it’ll happen soon – before he’s forced to complete the two years of mandatory military service required of all South Korean men.

UFC's Jeff Novitzky optimistic Nick Diaz will fight again

“I highly doubt it,” White said. “I don’t know. I honestly don’t think that, and I can’t speak for him, you’d have to speak with Nick himself, but if you ask me – people ask me, ‘Do you think Ronda (Rousey) is coming back?’ No. I think Ronda’s going to retire. Ronda hasn’t retired, but my opinion is, I think she will. I don’t think Nick Diaz will ever fight again. I just don’t think he has the desire anymore.
