Dennis Siver: David to McGregor’s Goliath | FIGHTLAND

McGregor has already claimed this will happen: “I feel I will stop Dennis Siver inside two minutes,” he said during last week’s UFC 182 broadcast. “I’ve ran through some scenarios, I cannot see him escaping the first two minutes. He is a seasoned veteran. He is a kickboxing expert, a taekwondo expert. He is my most experienced competitor that I will ever have faced. But I feel that under two minutes it will take me to dispatch him, and again it will make way for the football stadium in Ireland.”

Wanderlei Silva to NAC: ‘You Are Lost; You Don’t Know What You Are Doing’

Like most people, Wanderlei Silva has a lot of questions regarding the way the Nevada Athletic Commission handled the drug testing fort Jon Jones ahead of UFC 182. Unlike many observers, “The Axe Murderer” has first-hand experience dealing with the NAC. In September, the UFC and Pride Fighting Championships veteran was handed a lifetime ban and $70,000 fine by the commission for fleeing a random drug test ahead of a scheduled bout against Chael Sonnen at UFC 175. Silva retired prior to the hearing where his punishment was administered, claiming that the UFC took away his “desire to fight.” On Friday, the Brazilian posted a YouTube video blasting the NAC’s drug testing procedures. “You are lost, you don’t know what you are doing,” Silva said in a sub-titled video. “Maybe a fighter tests positive and still fights because it’s in the commission’s interest. But what goes? The law or their interests? This sport has to be regulated. The way it’s going can’t continue. This commission is a mess. They don’t know what they are [doing].” Earlier this week, it was revealed that Jones tested positive for cocaine metabolites during a pre-fight drug screening on Dec.

Court ruling allows UFC back on television in Germany

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has opened the door for a significant breakthrough in the Germany market with negotiations with two leading media properties in Germany following a five-year ban from broadcast television. The Bavarian State Media Authority (BLM) had banned UFC events from German television in March of 2010, claiming the events were a violation of general morality and an undesirable influence on youth. On Oct. 9, the Administrative Court in Munich ruled in favor of Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC, in its lawsuit challenging the broadcast ban. The court ruled that it could not back up the board's ruling and felt BLM did not have the legal grounds for its decision. They also stated that mixed martial arts was a plausible sport. Since the overturning of the ban, the UFC has been in negotiations with both ProSiebenSat. 1 and RTL, leading media giants in the market. ProSiebenSat. 1 already handles leading U.S. sports entertainment properties including the Super Bowl and has an existing deal with World Wrestling Entertainment. UFC aired on TV channel Sports1/DSF until BLM banned the events from television nearly five years ago.

Questions of consistency and fighter health linger in Jon Jones case

Such offenses have included offensive tweets, and use of drugs of abuse like marijuana. When contacted by FOX Sports, UFC officials would not comment beyond their general initial press release on Jon Jones' positive drug test, to answer questions such as whether the fighter has or will be disciplined in any manner for what was surely a violation of personal conduct portions of his UFC contract, and why or why not.

Morning Report: John Kavanagh ups the ante on Conor McGregor's two-minute stoppage prediction

Anderson Silva is unquestionably the greatest MMA fighter of all time. While Jon Jones is nipping at his heels for the G.O.A.T. status, his own issues in and outside of the cage are holding him back from assuming the mantle. Silva's exploits inside the octagon give him carte blanche to fight against basically whomever he desires. Superfights, title shots, even a misguided bout with Roy Jones Jr. (which thankfully never came to fruition.) There are, however, situations in MMA where one guy just has another guy's number. Urijah Faber couldn't get past Mike Brown in WEC, BJ Penn could never figure out Frankie Edgar , etc.

Dana White Discusses Jon Jones' Positive Drug Test and Entrance into Rehab (Video) |

Dana White knew of Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine on December 4, 2014. They cashed out first by letting him fight in January 2015. Jon Jones obviously did not know that the info would be public due to statements he made at the post fight press conference and nothing was ever mentioned to the public until after the fight or UFC payday was over for the UFC. This was done on purpose by the UFC. My question is how many other fighters are on cocaine and this info is still being kept a secret?? Dana says the drug test was issued by mistake. WTF? Something smells fishy here…

UFC fight bookings roundup – 1/2 – 1/9

Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2015, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.

Fernando Gonzalez Contemplated Retirement Prior to Improbable Bellator Run

Add caption here. | Dave Mandel/ In the split second after he floored Karo Parisyan with a left uppercut in their bout at Bellator 127 this past October, Fernando Gonzalez allowed himself a slight smirk. It was an expression of satisfaction not only for a job well done -- Gonzalez had envisioned catching the UFC veteran in that very manner countless times -- but also because he had come a long way from contemplating retirement earlier in 2014. Gonzalez made his Bellator debut last July on the heels of a two-fight losing streak in the California-based West Coast Fighting Championship. His 20-13 record heading into his first promotional foray was that of a prototypical journeyman, a ledger hard-earned through multiple organizations, short-notice fights and abbreviated camps. But around the same time the Menifee, Calif., native thought about calling it a career, he came to a realization: It wasn’t as simple as just walking away. “I was like, ‘Look, if I’m gonna do this I’m gonna do it right.’ It doesn’t matter who I fight, it doesn’t matter if I lose.

Hendo credits long career to lack of cocaine, says Jones is 'nobody the UFC would want as a role model':

"With the DUI that he's had and now testing positive for cocaine, he's not acting as a good role model for kids and nobody the UFC would want as a role model for kids growing up that watch the UFC," Henderson said. "It's a shame, it's unfortunate that he is that way but we'll see what he does with it. It would be refreshing if he could come out and just act the way he actually is and I think people would actually embrace that more than being a fake."

10 lessons from the Jon Jones drug testing debacle

9. ABC should be empowered to make drug testing more transparent . Boxing is federally regulated and isn't much (or any) better at policing doping within its ranks, so that isn't necessarily the right fix for this problem. Instead, a system where the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) does more than serve in an advisory role is needed. We need the ABC to establish protocol of what a proper annual drug testing looks like, costs, and otherwise involves. We need this information to be public and accessible to anyone with an Internet connection. We need a road map and a blueprint. We need some measure of tax dollars given to the ABC to help assist commissions or serve as liaisons to ensure they're up to snuff. Some states have more expertise than others. Some states have more needs than others. There's always going to be inequality. The key, though, is to empower the community through information. ABC meetings are for ABC attendees. They should be the priority, but not the exclusivity.

GSP not impressed by his own performance, calls classic comment toward Hughes 'low-class'

"I'm not impressed by your performance." If you've been an MMA fan, even over just the past half decade, you no doubt know exactly what these words mean, and where they come from. Then welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre uttered them at UFC 63 all the way back in 2006. They came, following Matt Hughes ' second title defense, in his second reign as UFC champion. It was an iconic moment in the rise of GSP, as he would go on to face Matt Hughes for the second time, and this time win the belt and start his own era as the most dominant welterweight champion in UFC history. Fond memories for anyone... except maybe GSP.
