5 Things You Might Not Know About Scott Coker

When someone sits down to write the history of mixed martial arts someday, Scott Coker will have a prominent place in it. As Strikeforce founder and current president of Bellator MMA , the 54-year-old executive has for years served as one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s chief rivals. His subtle, reserved approach to fight promotion stands in stark contrast to the in-your-face style of UFC President Dana White. Coker arrived on the MMA scene in 2006 and built Strikeforce into a combat sports powerhouse before selling the organization to UFC parent company Zuffa LLC in March 2011. After a brief hiatus, he was tapped lead Bellator on June 18, 2014. Coker with the backing Viacom has driven Bellator to new heights, turning away from its original tournament-based format while supplementing home-grown talent with more familiar names. Under his direction, the promotion has signed a number of high-profile free agents, from Benson Henderson, Gegard Mousasi and Ryan Bader to Lorenz Larkin, Matt Mitrione, Frank Mir and Roy Nelson. With Bellator 184 approaching on Friday in Thackerville, Oklahoma, here are five things you might not know about Coker: 1.

Conor’s Coach Calling For Diaz vs. McGregor III On St. Patricks Day

“If it was my choice, and I must stress that this is only my choice and that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, it would be Nate Diaz in March,” Kavanagh continued. “That’s what I would push towards. I have in my head that it would be a Paddy’s Day card in New York, Nate Diaz 3. I think that would be absolutely amazing. That’s what I would wish for. That’s what I’ll be leaning towards with my 0.1 percent influence when I meet with Conor and Audie (Attar) tomorrow. I want Diaz 3, Paddy’s Day in New York.

Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic: By The Numbers

He was also a member of the Lucko Anti-Terrorist Unit, a Special Forces branch of the Croatian police: Hence the nickname “Cro Cop.” Over the course of his outstanding 16-year career, Filipovic has accumulated his share of compelling statistical data: 1: K-1 World Grand Prix title.

Tony Ferguson takes all business to another level ahead of UFC 216 title fight vs. Kevin Lee

There’s no arguing Ferguson (22-3 MMA, 12-1 UFC) has earned this title shot. Including his 2011 win in “The Ultimate Fighter 13” final, he’s lost just once and finds himself on a nine-fight winning streak as he prepares for Lee (16-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC).

Fabricio Werdum: Slurs against Tony Ferguson were out of rage, but 'I'm not homophobic'

“Of all the things I could call him, that’s what I came up with at the moment,” Werdum told MMAjunkie. “But I didn’t want to offend homosexual people, nothing like that. It’s an argument that happened, and that’s it. At no point was I (directing it at) the gay community. I’m not homophobic. And, like I said, everyone has the same rights, and we’re all equals.”

Lauren Murphy Blasts Eddie Alvarez for Comments Made on 'The Ultimate Fighter' |

Following the early morning session when the other fighters returned to the house, Murphy wondered if Alvarez had said anything to them about her fight or her missing practice but they all kept quiet. When the show aired on Wednesday night, Murphy was incensed at some of the comments Alvarez made about her, especially considering she says that he actually thanked her later in the same day for not bringing a negative energy onto the mats when she wasn’t emotionally invested in training for the morning session.

Floyd Mayweather Unveils Extensive ‘Money Fight’ Art Work in Beverly Hills Home

Floyd Mayweather recently got some artwork to commemorate his final boxing match — and opponent Conor McGregor is featured prominently in the piece. Late Monday night, “Money” took to Twitter to show off a mural of both he and McGregor in his Beverly Hills, Calif., home. Mayweather refers to the piece, which features giant images of the fighters on opposite sides of a doorway, as “exclusive timeless artwork.” Exclusive timeless artwork in my Beverly Hills home#BeverlyHills #90210#TBE#TMT — Floyd Mayweather (@FloydMayweather) September 26, 2017 Mayweather defeated McGregor via 10th round technical knockout in their Aug. 26 bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to improve his professional mark to 50-0. McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion who was competing in his first boxing match, received praise for a performance in which many had him winning several early rounds before fading down the stretch. After the victory, Mayweather claimed that the fight was indeed his last, although he initially retired following a decision win over Andre Berto in 2015.

Tony Ferguson: If UFC Books McGregor-Diaz 3, Everything They Stand for ‘Goes Out the Window’

Tony Ferguson is approximately one week away from potentially becoming the UFC’s new interim lightweight champion should he get past Kevin Lee in the UFC 216 headliner. Normally, that would lead to a title unification bout against the division’s undisputed champion, but the the rules are a little bit different when the belt holder is Conor McGregor . The “Notorious” one is coming off a lucrative boxing match against Floyd Mayweather on Aug. 26 and is less likely than ever to settle for anything but another blockbuster fight. Whether that’s the Ferguson-Lee winner remains to be seen. Already there have been rumors of a McGregor vs. Nate Diaz trilogy bout, as their first two meetings both generated more than 1 million pay-per-view buys for the UFC. On Sunday, Irish Tabloid The Sunday World reported that McGregor-Diaz 3 was nearly official for UFC 219 on Dec. 30. However, UFC President Dana White quickly shot down that notion on Twitter. Still, that doesn’t mean McGregor vs. Diaz 3 won’t happen, even if Dec. 30 isn’t the date.

Frank Shamrock to Face Kazushi Sakuraba in Grappling Match at Rizin’s Oct. 15 Event

What was once one of mixed martial arts great “what if” matchups will become a reality in a different type of combat on Oct. 15. Japanese promotion Rizin announced Friday that Frank Shamrock and Kazushi Sakuraba will square off in a grappling match on its Oct. 15 card at Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan. Shamrock is stepping in as a replacement for Dan Henderson , who withdrew from the match due to an injured neck. Rizin “Aki No Jin” will also feature the “B” portion of the bantamweight grand prix and the opening round of the women’s super atomweight grand prix. Shamrock, a former UFC champion, once called out Sakuraba at a Pride Fighting Championships event, but the bout never came to fruition. At the time, Sakuraba was one of the sport’s biggest stars in Japan. The 48-year-old Sakuraba has competed in grappling matches against Renzo Gracie in 2014 and in a tandem match with Hideo Tokoro against Wanderlei Silva and Kiyoshi Tamura at a Rizin event in 2016. Both bouts ended in a draw. Shamrock, 44, last fought MMA in 2009, losing to Nick Diaz via second-round TKO under the Strikeforce banner.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Joanna, Who and Everybody Else?

After Mauricio “Shogun” Rua fell out of the headliner a week out from the event, UFC Fight Night 117 from Saitama, Japan, was not likely to be remembered fondly. However, it did break one crystallized notion about MMA's hierarchy: The women's strawweight division is not “ Joanna Jedrzejczyk , Claudia Gadelha and everybody else.” If anything, it is now “Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Jessica Andrade and everybody else.” While Ovince St. Preux made the most of his main event against late replacement Yushin Okami -- he won with his record-setting third shoulder choke in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and second this year alone -- beating a faded middleweight like Okami is not enough for “OSP” to rejoin our top-10 mix at 205 pounds. Rather, it was UFC Fight Night 117 co-headliner Andrade making moves, as she overcame a hot start from Gadelha to dominate the final two rounds, turning her fellow Brazilian into a bloody mess. As it pertains to these rankings, Andrade's gruesome treatment of Gadelha sees her vault “Claudinha” in the 115-pound ranks, jumping from fifth to No.
