UFC Dublin Takes a Hit, as Injury Scratches Miocic vs. Rothwell Co-Main Event

Rothwell (35-9) has been bursting out of his journeyman role of late, winning three fights in succession over Brandon Vera, Alistair Overeem, and Matt Mitrione. A win over Miocic would have vaulted him into the title-talk mix, but is now left in a wait-and-see mode, as the UFC ponders what to do about the UFC Fight Night 76 co-main event slot with only a week and a half to come up with a solution.

Opinion: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the UFC Model

The beauty of UFC’s model is easily explainable with Rizin's recent headlines. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ Editor's note: The views & opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. For mixed martial arts fans who were around before “The Ultimate Fighter,” Pride Fighting Championships still holds a special place in the heart. The elaborate sets, loaded tournaments and larger-than-life figures from 10 years ago often resonate in the mind better than last weekend’s Ultimate Fighting Championship card. The natural human inclination towards nostalgia, however, often makes us overlook the flaws and downsides of the past while taking for granted the greatness of the present. That’s not to say Pride wasn’t a tremendous promotion that offered up many of the sport’s most iconic and memorable moments. It’s just that UFC’s approach to matchmaking has become so entrenched that we overlook how much more conducive it is to getting the best possible matchups.

Emmanuel Sanchez Steps Up on Short Notice | MMA News from Bellator

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (October 13, 2015) – A knee injury sustained during training camp has forced former featherweight champion Pat Curran to withdraw from his bout at "Bellator 145: Vengeance" against Justin "The American Kid" Lawrence (8-2) in Saint Louis on November 6. As a result, Emmanuel "El Matador" Sanchez (11-2) has agreed to fill-in on short notice, providing fans with an amazing matchup between two of the divisions most exciting up-and-coming prospects.   The contest will take place during the main card of " Bellator 145: 'Vengeance ," which airs live on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, while preliminary bouts will stream on at 7 p.m. ET.   Top billing at the November 6 event features two world title bouts. Patricio "Pitbull" Freire (24-2) defends his featherweight strap against Daniel Straus (23-6) and Will "Ill Will" Brooks (16-1) meets submission specialist Marcin Held (21-3), with the 155-pound belt on the line. "Bellator 145: Vengeance" on Spike will also feature Michael Chandler (13-3) fighting David Rickels (16-3, 1 NC) and heavyweight Bobby "The Dominator" Lashley (13-2) will look to avenge a previous loss on his record when he finally meets James Thompson (20-14) in a rematch.

With Pat Curran out, Emmanuel Sanchez steps in to face Justin Lawrence at Bellator 145

A former cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter 15,” Lawrence made his Bellator debut in June, scoring a first-rounf TKO win over Sean Wilson. While back-to-back losses to Daniel Pineda and Max Holloway saw him ushered out of the UFC, he’s since won four consecutive matchups. The 25-year-old featherweight recently relocated to Arizona’s Power MMA camp.

If You're Reading This It's Too Late by Drake on iTunes

“I got enemies,” Drake proclaims on “Energy,” a cold-blooded highlight from this 17-track surprise release. It’s an impressive performance that combines the contemplative and confrontational—with plenty of cavernous production assists from longtime collaborator Noah “40” Shebib. On the woozy, Wondagurl-produced “Used To,” Drake joins mentor Lil Wayne in questioning the loyalty of old friends. Later, amid the electrifying barbs of “6PM in New York,” Drake considers his own mortality and legacy: “28 at midnight. I wonder what’s next for me.”

But almost as soon as the ink dried on one of the harshest punishments handed down to an MMA fighter, the petition was underway. Created by “T.C.” from Boaz, Ala., on Sept. 14 – the same day of Diaz’s suspension – it quickly garnered in excess of 60,000 signatures over two weeks before slowing down a tad.

Kevin Lee calls out Sage Northcutt: 'He'll live the shortest career that the UFC has known'

I damn sure know I’m a better wrestler than him, so I think I can beat him everywhere.”

Sharp iron & guiding hands: Are teammates or coaching more important in MMA?

So which factor, if either, was more important to a fighter's success -- the coaching they receive or the teammates with whom they drill and spar with daily. As someone who has done fight training since adolescence, I have my own ideas on the matter, but I've only achieved sub-mediocre results as a fighter so I went to actual experts to get their take.

Nick Diaz Raw Thoughts on Nevada "Dork Court" (after NAC Banned Him)

Stats: Nick Diaz White House petition to finish 15,000 signatures short of goal

Consider the common factor between the right of a Down syndrome-afflicted MMA fighter, Garrett Holeve, to compete in Florida and the right to legally unlock your cell phone . Both were made possible due to online petitions. Such online petition forums are common in other countries and vary in their thresholds. In the United Kingdom, an online petition requires 10,000 signatures to qualify for an official governmental response and any petition attracting more than 100,000 signatures is assured of a parliamentary debate. To qualify for action from the U.S. White House, the Nick Diaz petition needs 100,000 signatures by the end of Oct. 16 th .

Paul Heyman compares CM Punk to Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Vince McMahon

"It is also the greatest inhibitor of pursuing one's dreams. Because you learn in terms of creativity of what not to do, but in terms of pursuing your dreams you learn all the reasons why something will fail. If you show me someone who's afraid of failure, I'll show you someone who is not a groundbreaking, innovative, pioneer of a certain industry. How many different ways could you have explained to Bill Gates why not to go in the direction he went in his life? They just released a movie on Steve Jobs. This guy broke every rule in the book, every convention and he was unrestrained in his pursuit of what everyone thought was crazy. Same with Vincent Kennedy McMahon. He broke every rule and could be given every reason not to do the things that he did."

UFC Fighter Alexander Gustafsson Knows A Thing Or Two About How To Wear A Suit

While we all know what he brings to the octagon, you might not be familiar with his stylish side. We caught up with the stylish Swede before UFC 192 to get his tips on rocking a suit:

Stipe Miocic out of next week's UFC Fight Night 76 co-headliner with Ben Rothwell

Miocic (13-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) Rothwell (35-9 MMA, 5-3 UFC), who are respectively ranked No. 4 and No. 7 in the NOS Energy Drink MMA heavyweight rankings , had second billing on the UFC Fight Pass-streamed card, which takes place Oct. 24 at 3Arena in Dublin. The bout carried title implications for the heavyweight division, with Miocic recently earning a dominant win over onetime interim title challenger Mark Hunt and Rothwell riding a three-fight win streak, most recently submitting Matt Mitrione.

The inspiring, heart-breaking story behind Josh Samman's UFC come back

Samman's emotions reach their boiling point as he steps into the Octagon, as he feels the mat beneath his feet for the first time in 612 days at UFC 181. Describing what that turning point of his life felt like would be impossible, he will say later, and then try it anyway. He is beyond excited to have made it back. Upset because Hailey is not with him. Honored because he is fighting on her birthday. Terrified of losing on this day. Add the usual nerves of competing against a trained wrecking ball in a locked steel cage and you've got yourself a mad mix of feelings that are impossible to control. When Eddie Gordon enters the Octagon, frowningly staring him down, Samman knows that his life's direction hinges on these next three five-minute rounds. It is do or die for his battered soul.

American Tragedy (Deluxe Edition) by Hollywood Undead on iTunes

Hollywood Undead hail (unsurprisingly) from the streets of Hollywood, California, mixing brash hip-hop, rock, and minor metalcore touches with cocky posturing and thug attitudes. Owing much of their popularity and exposure to the social networking monster MySpace, the group -- whose members usually wear masks on-stage -- started as the musical project of J-Dog and Tha Producer in June 2005. They uploaded some new music to their profile and very quickly started amassing song plays and online friends...

UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Henderson 3 fight card

For the 3rd (and probably) final time, Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson will fight each other. Henderson won the first one in PRIDE, with Belfort failing his drug test afterwards. Belfort evened the score in 2013 with a head kick knockout, making him the first man to ever stop Hendo with strikes. With Belfort coming off a title fight loss vs. Chris Weidman and Henderson off a brutal 1st round KO win vs. Tim Boetsch, these two will meet again, this time at 185 pounds in the UFC Fight Night main event in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Flyweight Frelow on Fast Track

Donavon Frelow is on the verge of a big opportunity. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ Most mixed martial artists need to get 10 or more fights into their professional careers before they have a shot to win a championship in a major promotion. However, Donavon Frelow has been on the fast track since making his pro debut in March 2014. Now, the unbeaten flyweight has an opportunity to become the first World Series of Fighting 125-pound champion when he takes on Magomed Bibulatov on Oct. 17 in a featured contest at WSOF 24 . “Camp has gone well for me,” Frelow recently told “I’m feeling really good. My weight is great and I’ve been getting some good training in. I feel really good right now.” Frelow-Bibulatov is one of two championship bouts set for WSOF 24 along with a heavyweight title fight pitting champion Blagoy Ivanov against Derrick Mehmen . The card, headlined by a welterweight clash between former Ultimate Fighting Championships title challengers Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami , will be broadcast on NBCSN starting at 8:30 p.

Kickboxing: Glory 25 Lineup Finalized for Nov. 6 in Italy

Robin van Roosmalen returns next month. | Photo: James Law/Glory Kickboxing organization Glory has finalized its next event, Glory 25, which will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Robin van Roosmalen and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong on Nov. 6 in Monza, Italy. Returning lightweight legend Giorgio Petrosyan (81-2-1, 36 KOs) and rising star Josh Jauncey (23-5, 12 KOs) meet in the co-headline bout. For the first time in the company’s history, one of its world titles will be at stake during the “Super Fight Series” of the event, which serves as the precursor to the main card. Featherweight champ Gabriel Varga (26-2, 8 KOs) will defend his crown against Dutch-based Ukrainian Serhiy Adamchuk (30-5, 14 KOs). The two combatants were originally slated to duel in September, but Varga suffered an injury during training that postponed the battle. While Varga healed, Adamchuk stayed busy by toppling muay Thai champion Anvar Boynazarov. Filling out the Glory 25 main card is a one-night, four-man welterweight contender tournament with championship implications.

Opinion: Manny Pacquiao’s Excuses Won’t Yield Floyd Mayweather Rematch

Editor's note: The views & opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. Manny Pacquiao has confirmed that he will have one more fight before walking away from the squared circle and focusing on a career in politics. At the moment, it appears there are only two names the future hall of famer has in his sights: Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather . But, let’s be honest here: there really is only one, and his name is not Floyd Mayweather. Related » Boxing Pound-for-Pound & Divisional Rankings It’s not necessarily because Mayweather is “retired.” It’s more about the way Pacquiao has handled himself since losing a one-sided decision to Mayweather in the underwhelming mega-fight that left many fight fans unsatisfied with the lack of action. Simply put, Pacquiao has done himself absolutely no favors if he’s really trying to land a rematch with Mayweather. When he lost, the first foul Pacquiao made was blaming his lackluster performance on a shoulder injury.

What would a fighters association do for its members? It's more than money, proponents say

What fighters don’t seem to realize, according to Ibarra, is how much power they already have, should they choose to exercise it collectively. All it would take is for a majority of the fighters on the card for an upcoming UFC event to refuse to fight unless UFC ownership recognized a fighters association. That might also bring other, more established unions into the fray, he said, since in many places the support staff who work UFC events, whether pouring beer at the concession stands or setting up the cage, are union members themselves.
