Fabricio Werdum almost died on first day of training in Mexico
"What doesn’t kill make you stronger. That made me stronger," Werdum said with a laugh. "We’re fine now. That was a huge scare. We almost died. Imagine the headlines: ‘Werdum moves his camp to Mexico and dies with his whole team.’ We were searching for a breath of fresh air and almost died from carbon monoxide poisoning [laughs]."

DAVE COKIN'S HARDCORE SPORTS
If you want to turn the clock back a quarter century or so, there’s no real argument coming from me. But these are not the 1980’s, and the entire college sports landscape has changed dramatically. in the 1980’s, there was no merchandising to speak of, at least not in comparison to what’s there now. The TV contracts were okay, but are comically primitive compared to what we have now. The schedule has been increased to bring in additional revenue. Schools are switching conferences like crazy, and it’s 100% to increase the bottom line. And after hearing why a college football playoff was an unacceptable alternative for what amounts to my entire life, we now have a college football playoff. Also, you can bet your bottom dollar it’s only going to be a four-team playoff for a very brief period of time. It’s going to get to eight teams within a few years, and by the mid 20’s I would be shocked if it’s not a 16-team deal. The dollars are simply too large to pass up.

MMA Journalist Steps Away from the Mic to Knock This Guy Out! (Video) | MMAWeekly.com
MMA Journalist, Spencer Lazara, is known for his proficiency on the mic, not in the cage. But he made a huge statement in his first fight at Tuff-N-Uff on Friday, Oct. 17, at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. He knocked his opponent out cold!
Gennady Golovkin: The Man, the Myth
Golovkin has often been praised for the intelligence of his combination punching, and it's a well-deserved accolade. Few boxers are more adept at using touching, throwaway punches to feel out and create holes in the opponent's defense. Defense is the operative word there, however, for it's defense that Golovkin expects from his opponents. As with poor Matthew Macklin above, Golovkin absolutely flourishes when his opponents are desperately trying not to be hit by him. Ironically, that's when their likelihood of being hit--and knocked out--becomes a veritable inevitability.
Chris Weidman Heroically Saved The Life of His Neighbor
Approximately 20 minutes later, paramedics arrived and took her to a local hospital to treat her for the wound on her head, which occurred when she fell backward while feeding her dog, hitting herself on a glass table in her home. Normally at home with her daughter, on this morning, the daughter had a dentist appointment. Weidman spoke to her daughter when she got home, and while there is no update on the 94-year-old’s condition, “hopefully everything’s all right,” said the champ, whose quick thinking most certainly saved her life. “I’m just happy that I was there at the right time.”

The UFC at Halloween? Bring It On
So, you wanna be a UFC Fighter... for Halloween. Excellent choice. In fact, why not get your fight fan friends together and have a UFC themed-Halloween party? If you want to be a champion, and who doesn't, the UFC Store has replica championship belts and UFC gloves to start you off. Here are a few more ideas for UFC-themed costumes but feel free to share your own! Ronda Rousey - There are a lot more options for women's costumes at a UFC-themed Halloween party now that the Women's division is well-established and growing bigger all the time. If you're going to be a female fighter, why not be the UFC's first and only champ, "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey? You'll need: UFC gloves, a Rousey shirt, a replica championship belt, blonde hair and, if you want to add some Halloween macabre, get a severed arm prop and carry it around. Then there will be no mistake that you're the Rowdy One, who is known for her signature armbar. Ian McCall - Everyone knows Ian "Uncle Creepy" McCall for his exciting fights and his stylish, classic handlebar mustache. Get your UFC gloves, a McCall T-Shirt and the "Creepystache" and you're set.

Fabricio Werdum nearly dies from carbon monoxide poisoning in Mexico
The UFC’s first-ever card in Mexico, featuring Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum , sold 21,0000 tickets in eight hours. Which is almost as mind-boggling as the fact that the event was nearly derailed last week when Werdum narrowly escaped carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty heater in his team’s house. Supposedly, this is fairly common in the small village of Jiquipilco, Mexico: a gas heater malfunctions during the night, carbon monoxide builds up in the rooms, and the next morning the maid either finds you blue and bloated under the sheets, or you wake coughing, eyes watering, carrying your teammates into the frigid night.
Iranian wrestling world champion Aliakbari training for MMA career at AKA Thailand
The only potential red flag regarding Aliakbari's potential as a fighter is his past history of performance enhancing drug use. Though he has placed first at two World Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling, I have been careful not to refer to him as a two-time world champion. After he placed first at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest, Aliakbari tested positive for a banned substance, and FILA stripped him of his gold medal. Because this was the Iranian's second offense, he received a permanent ban from all FILA (UWW) sponsored wrestling competition.
Takedowns, Ground-and-Pound Spur Paul Bradley Past Josh Neer in Bellator 129 Headliner
Bradley had a game plan, and he executed it.
Bradley leaned on takedowns and steady ground-and-pound in claiming
a unanimous decision over Josh Neer in
129 headliner on Friday at the Mid-America Center in Council
Bluffs, Iowa. All three judges scored it 30-27 for Bradley (22-6,
2-1 Bellator), a former Ring of Combat champion who has posted four
wins in his past six appearances.
Unable to stay upright and cut above his left eye, Neer’s
frustrations grew as the fight progressed. He succumbed to
takedowns in all three rounds, directing his ire at both his
opponent and referee “Big” John McCarthy. Neither man paid him much
attention. Bradley ignored his taunts, stayed heavy on top and did
enough with punches and short elbows to avoid restarts.
The defeat halted a three-fight winning streak for Neer (36-14-1,

With Charles’ corner begging for him to keep the pace high in the third, he pumped his jab and threw s few thudding kicks to the leg. Wilson tried to return fire but struggled to match the volume. At the halfway mark, Charles drove in for a takedown, but Wilson sprawled against the cage, forcing a restart. Wilson loaded up on a few homerun shots to close the fight, but Charles stayed out of harm’s way, driving in for another takedown to close the bout.

Call him ‘semi-retired,’ Martin Kampmann isn’t ready to hang up his gloves just yet
"Bang's done a great job obviously, with the striking and helping guys improve on their striking game. I came in here in the middle of Chad's training camp, so I don't think that's a good time to change anything up. I know he's had great success with Bang. I've just been coming in and running the pro practice. I'm still getting acquainted with a lot of the guys since I just moved out here, but I've been of course giving them my take on what I think they can improve on and what I think they should do for their fights.

Welcome to the UFC, Cannonier and Collier
It's a tough for Cannonier, but if tape is anything to go by, it's certainly one he's capable of winning. Jordan has yet to show mfightuch of the growth or consistency expected of an athlete of his caliber, when he came to MMA. He's still a great athlete, and he still hits hard, but when he's not facing the lowest end of competition, he often looks lost in his striking and doesn't have the consistently technical wrestling to bring the fight to the ground and keep it there. If Cannonier can manage to stay on his feet, or at least stay off his back, he has the tools to beat Shawn Jordan. But, given that it's the heavyweight division, I wouldn't heavily favor either man.
