Stephen Thompson vs. Neil Magny added to UFC 195 in Las Vegas

Magny recently was riding a seven-fight UFC winning streak that had him in title contention. Although the 28-year-old, who appeared on “The Ultimate Fighter 16,” ultimately suffered a submission loss to Demian Maia, he rebounded with a 22-day turnaround and earned a split-decision defeat over Erick Silva in August.

Lorenz Larkin vs. Albert Tumenov joins UFC 195 lineup

After a split-decision defeat to Ildemar Alcantara in his promotional debut, the 23-year-old Balkar fighter has won four consecutive bouts against mid-level UFC competition. A true high-protein diet (3.4 g/kg) results in better body composition than a normal diet (2.3 g/kg) in healthy weight training men and women.

If you are a lean, healthy, resistance-training individual interested in building muscle and maximizing body composition, then you are part of a unique and understudied population when it comes to the ideal amount of protein you should be eating. Owed in no small part to the current health state of the world, most research investigating the effects dietary protein on body composition and health is done in unhealthy individuals.

The Mike Dolce Show by Mike Dolce - Creator of The Dolce Diet on iTunes

I usually don't like writing reviews but, I was feeling guilt for not say anything about the show. I don't know Mike in person but I can guarantee to anyone that Mike knows what he talks about and, to have knowledge doesn't mean you have to be a Doctor or whatever you title you prefer to call. Mike makes all plain and simple: you are what you eat and what matters is quality of the fuel you put in your body. Doctors are legal drug dealers, they won't tell you other ways to lose weight or whatever the problem may be other then taking pills and more pills. Great work done by Mike, I ain't nobody but I totally approve and appreciate what Mike does. Thank you Mike, excellent job.

Ben Rothwell 'disheartened' at news of Stipe Miocic facing Andrei Arlovski

The heavyweight insisted that he isn't caught up in notions of fairness, but instead that he literally doesn't understand how an injured fighter who won't be able to fight this weekend got another fight booked before he himself did. "I'm not going to talk about what's fair because there is nothing fair in this sport, so let's get past that. I just, fair or not, I'm just completely blindsided. I mean if Andrei got matched up with somebody else, fine, whatever," he continued.

Steve Cunningham on Antonio Tarver’s Positive PED Test: ‘That Man Could Have Killed Me’

Steve Cunningham had some strong words for Antonio Tarver. | Ed Diller/ DiBella Entertainment Everyone in boxing is aware of former world cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham’s special story. They know the trials “USS Cunningham” has had to endure involving the plight of his 10-year-old daughter Kennedy, who was born with a rare heart defect, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which shut down the left side of her heart. Kennedy underwent a heart transplant in December 2014 at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. It’s a galvanizing reason why Steve fights for his family. So you can imagine how personal Cunningham took it when the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB) announced that Antonio Tarver tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug for their Aug. 14 WBC heavyweight elimination bout at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., that resulted in a 12-round draw. In a statement released by Tarver, he claims: “I have no idea how my urine sample tested positive because I didn't take anything illegal.

Inside the UFC's expanded anti-doping efforts

"Anti-doping is moving rapidly toward a more forensic approach to protect clean sport through analytical and non-analytical investigations," USADA Science Director, Mathew Fedoruk (Ph. D) told BloodyElbow. "The Athlete Biological Passport is a scientific tool used to examine relevant indirect biomarkers of doping, which further allows those that aim to level the playing field with the ability to detect and deter doping through state-of-the art and complementary methods - as an analogy, we are working to create a video of an athlete's biochemistry rather than merely looking at a snapshot in time."

Report: Virginia Boxing Commission Investigating Prichard Colon Tragedy

While fallen boxing contender Prichard Colon remains hospitalized in a coma following surgery to halt a brain bleed that stemmed from his battle with Terrel Williams, it was reported that the Virginia Boxing Commission has launched an investigation into the matter. Colon fought Williams on Saturday afternoon but suffered life-threatening injuries to his brain during the fracas. Colon and Williams waged an exciting battle, though it was marred by flagrant fouls, retaliation and plenty of controversy. After being rocked by a left hook in the fifth, Colon delivered what referee Joseph Cooper deemed an intentional foul when he blasted his foe’s groin with a vicious uppercut. Cooper docked two points from Colon, but matters between the two only worsened. Colon was pelted by a thudding blow to the back of his head in the seventh and he immediately clutched his cranium. Colon was eventually disqualified by Cooper at the start of the 10th when his corner cut off his gloves, thinking the fight was over. As it turns out, the absentminded removal of the pugilist’s gloves may wind up saving his life.

After two UFC deals fell through, Japan's Isao ready for US debut at Bellator 144

"It's always been a dream to come to the US and fight," Isao said through his translator, "but he always thought that he wasn't ready to fight. He wanted to have experience, he wanted to be here and be ready to fight in the US. I guess, until this time, there wasn't really obstacles. Last year, when he was in the US, one of the guys was asking him, 'Do you want to fight for Bellator?' Last year, but that didn't really come true. After this April, when he fought and won, that's when it really kind of opened a door for him in the United States."

Reebok Removes UFC Ireland-Themed T-Shirt from Online Store After Backlash

Reebok probably wishes it could have a do-over after the unveiling of its UFC Ireland T-shirt sparked nearly universal backlash. The “Ireland Map Tee” was unveiled ahead of the UFC’s Fight Night show at the 3Arena in Dublin on Saturday. However, only the Republic of Ireland was featured on the shirt, as Reebok neglected to include Northern Ireland. The shirt was accompanied by the following caption: “Show your territorial allegiance with this UFC Ireland map tee. You know in your soul the best fighters come out of Ireland, and you’re not afraid to scream your pride in the gym or at the Octagon.” The Republic of Ireland’s capital is Dublin and occupies about five-sixths of the island of Ireland. It shares a border with Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. When referring to “Ireland” one is generally including both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is where Reebok made its gaffe. While there was plenty of outrage regarding the shirt, one of the most prominent detractors was Conor McGregor ’s coach, John Kavanagh , who heads the SBG Ireland team and just recently inked a sponsorship deal with Reebok .

Opinion: Brock Lesnar, What If?

How would Brock Lesnar fit into the current UFC heavyweight division? | Photo: Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. Brock Lesnar recently revealed on the “Stone Cold” Steve Austin podcast that he had seriously considered a return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship after his World Wrestling Entertainment contract had expired earlier this year and actually started an MMA training camp before ultimately deciding he would remain with the WWE. The news raised a few eyebrows, especially for those who thought Lesnar was simply posturing for money and had never really considered a comeback to the Octagon. Judging by his demeanor on the podcast, which comes off about as straightforward as one can be, the consideration he gave was serious as a heart attack. Something else Lesnar said to Austin on the WWE-produced podcast also stuck out. “To this day, I don’t know if I’d be a pro wrestler if I hadn’t gotten sick,” Lesnar said while also suggesting that diverticulitis “robbed” him of his prime MMA years.

Anabolic and catabolic pathways regulating skeletal muscle mass

Beyond skeletal muscle's primary function as a force generator for locomotion, there is a growing recognition of the important role skeletal muscle plays in overall health through its impact on whole-body metabolism as well as directly influencing quality of life issues with chronic disease and aging. The acknowledgement of skeletal muscle's broad influence on general health has heightened interest in trying to understand the mechanisms responsible for the maintenance of muscle mass. The maintenance of skeletal muscle mass in the mature individual is primarily dictated by the balance between the rates of protein synthesis and protein degradation. Research over the previous decade has revealed that growth factors, hormones, cytokines, nutrients and mechanical loading are all environmental triggers capable of activating cellular signaling pathways which can push the balance in favor of protein synthesis or degradation leading to a gain or loss, respectively, of skeletal muscle mass. The primary purpose of this brief review is to highlight the advances that have been made over the past few years in our understanding of the signaling pathways controlling the rate of protein synthesis and degradation.

Don't Look Back, Paddy Holohan is Coming

With the exception of an upset loss to Chris Kelades in his second UFC bout a year ago, the mixed martial arts career of Paddy Holohan has been setback free. Yet that doesn’t mean that “The Hooligan” is complacent or so confident of victory that he can’t fathom defeat. In fact, he’s got a message for anyone who thinks that can knock him down or keep him from his path to the UFC flyweight title.

Camps for Manny Pacquiao, Lucas Matthysse in Discussion for Early 2016 Bout

According to several reports floating around online Wednesday afternoon, it seems as though talks are underway between the camps of former world title challenger Lucas Matthysse and future Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao . The notion is that the two sluggers will meet at some point in early 2016. Oscar de la Hoya , who promotes Matthysse, said that talks are underway between his Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank, which promotes Pacquiao. There were rumors circulating within the sport of a possible showdown between the entertaining Argentinean and Filipino, but Matthysse signed on to fight for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title on Oct. 3, where he was shockingly knocked out by Viktor Postol in the 10th round. Pacquiao last fought in May, where he dropped a lackluster decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. , a fight that was the highest-grossing boxing event in the history of the Sweet Science. Pacquiao claimed he had an injured shoulder going into the fight and reportedly had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff a week after the duel. Top Rank chairman Bob Arum stated a few weeks ago that he believes Pacquiao will fight once in early 2016 before finally retiring.

Ben Rothwell thinks it will take 'act of God' to get big-name heavyweight fight

“I’m the guy that’s healthy calling out Andrei; isn’t that worth anything?” Rothwell said. “Haven’t they been telling us for years that fighters need to call out guys? I’ve been calling out the top dudes for like the last year now, and not one of the fights that I’ve asked for has happened. I don’t get it. My frustration is obvious. I just don’t know what to think of it. I just try to hold on. Is something bigger going to happen? I just don’t see it now. The only thing that I can see now is an act of God. Like (Alistair) Overeem gets hurt and I get to fight Junior (at UFC on FOX 17 in December).”

UFC Fight Night: Holohan vs. Smolka - Idiot's Guide Preview to Neil Seery vs Jon Delos Reyes

Seery has traditionally lost via submission, but only early on in his career, when youth is punished by the inexperience of grappling. It's a tough fight to predict because I think both men can win in intervals; Reyes with the odd takedown, and Seery with the odd exchange on the feet. At the same time, I can see Reyes getting completely blanked. He doesn't own a varied arsenal on the feet, and Seery wouldn't fear his power even if he did have good striking (he's just that durable). I don't think it's an easy fight for either man. They have the kind of styles that will look like they're interrupting one another instead of combating each other. But within that struggle, Seery should be able to keep himself upright long enough to maintain control. It doesn't hurt that he's fighting in Ireland. Just saying.
