Nevada hands Vitor Belfort drug testing duties to California

On Wednesday, spoke to NAC executive director Bob Bennett, who said he currently has no plans in place to randomly test Belfort because the UFC recently informed the commission that the Weidman vs. Belfort fight would probably take place in California next year. (Note: the UFC has yet to publicly announce the official date and location of the title fight, however, UFC president Dana White recently said it would happen in February.) Bennett also said the commission had yet to test Belfort, despite the fact that the title fight was official for two months before Weidman had to pull out. Weidman confirmed he had not been tested, as well.

UFC 179: Aldo vs. Mendes 2 - Idiot's Guide and Preview to the FS1 and Fight Pass Prelims

Arantes is an interesting fighter even though he probably gets mistaken for the Souza's and Silva's of the world because he's another Brazilian undercarder. Despite that, he's a respectable 3-2-1 in the UFC. His last bout against Maximo Blanco was a mixed baby maker bag of wrestling, striking, and groin strikes. While Blanco lost a point, Arantes didn't need it as he took the fight to Blanco with aggression from his back, and on the feet. While I do think Fili will win, it won't be easy by any means. Fili moves well, and even though his footwork isn't dramatic, he works hard to slip combinations down the middle while punishing his opponent at range with solid leg kicks. I suspect Fili will land punches on the sometimes wild slugger in Arantes who may want to follow Holloway's blueprint and sustain an attack to the body.

Free $500 UFC 179 Kountermove fantasy cash tourney

Players use a $25,000 artificial salary cap to draft 5 fighters from the card before each event begins. Eachfighter has a salary designated by Kountermove -- salaries range from $3,000 to $8,000. The winners are determined based on how the fight plays out rather than simply a fight's outcome (pick'em format). Kountermove calculates a fighter's fantasy score based on the number of strikes, takedowns, submissions, dominant positions, and rounds won. Scoring data from the fights flows into the site in near real-time, so players can monitor their teams as the event happens. The data used in calculating a fighter's score is provided by UFC's official stats provider, FightMetric.

Rousimar Palhares vs. Jon Fitch WSOF title fight to be held Dec. 13 in Las Vegas

The card is added to a busy time for MMA in the region. UFC 181 is on Dec. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center; the TUF 20 Finale is on Dec. 12 at the Palms Casino; and UFC on FOX 13 is on Dec. 13 in Phoenix, a market which makes up a considerable portion of the live fan base which normally travels to Las Vegas events. Weidman-Belfort Title Tilt Likely Moving to California, CSAC to Handle All Drug Testing

Vitor Belfort’s title bout against Chris Weidman looks to be headed to California. | Mike Sloan/ The middleweight championship bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort is reportedly moving from Las Vegas to California, and with that change, the California State Athletic Commission is expected to oversee all drug testing for the fight. According to a report from on Thursday, Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett said that there were no plans to randomly test Belfort because the UFC informed him that the middleweight title bout had been moved to from Las Vegas to California. Belfort was granted a conditional license by the NAC on July 23, which would have allowed him to face Weidman at UFC 181 in Las Vegas on Dec. 6. The Brazilian’s licensing hinged on three conditions: That his first fight take place in Las Vegas, that it occurred no earlier than December and that he pay for enhanced random drug testing proposed by the NAC out of his own pocket. In addition, Belfort was required to submit both blood and urine samples, and any member of the commission had the power to order a random test on the fighter.

Details: Anthony Johnson due back in court next Wednesday for restraining order hearing

The two were in court on October 1 and a 30-day stay of the order of protection was granted. It appears that there was some confusion over technicalities relating to the ability of the order to be related to "domestic violence" given that the two are not in a current relationship, do not live together, and that "there has never been any type of acknowledgment or recognition of paternity upon the respondent." This was laid out in a motion to dismiss, submitted by Johnson's legal team in late September.

Episode No. 5 recap: 'The Ultimate Fighter 20: Team Pettis vs. Team Melendez'

Round 1 – Herrig opens with an inside leg kick. Clark presses forward with a combination and Herrig answers with another low kick. Clark is looking to counterstrike off Herrig’s forward pressure. She has difficulty finding her range and Herrig ducks under a punch for a double-leg takedown. Clark sprawls and attempts to lock up a standing guillotine. Herrig pushes Clark toward the fence and breaks free of the hold. They exchange control along the fence until Herrig lands a leg sweep that puts Clark on her back. Herrig gains half guard and attempts to work her ground and pound. Clark is patient on the bottom and times a reversal where she ends up in Herrig’s guard. Herrig throws up her legs for a triangle choke then switches to an armbar. Clark remains calm and maneuvers out of the submission. Herrig is on top and Clark attempts a reverse triangle choke, but the position isn’t right. Herrig scrambles on top to end the round.

I wish there was a place where data from all of the EA Sports simulations were stored. “I walked out of the sauna as Jeff, my manger, was calling my trainer and telling him what had happened,” Jorgensen said. “To get down to weight, it set me off. I was dehydrated. I was on weight, and I was pissed. I put in a hard training camp, busted my butt to get down to weight. Made weight. I was on point. I did my job and showed up on weight. For him to do that, especially given his track record of missing weight? But not only that – the fact that he’s an Olympic champion, that was a slap in the face.

Cung Le Releases Statement on Rescinded Suspension, Believes UFC Owes Him Apology

The AMR Group is also extremely happy with the UFC’s decision to avoid arbitration and rescind their 12 month suspension of Cung Le . The evidence of my client’s innocence was overwhelming in this instance and the UFC’s decision to forego any further action and exonerate him is proof positive of that. We hope that my client will not now forever be associated with illegal doping especially now that he has been completely cleared of any wrongdoing. Regardless of the UFC’s decision, we are left to wonder if this whole matter should have ever happened at all but we do now know several things for certain: 1) my client did not take any performance enhancing drugs, 2) we questioned the propriety of the testing procedures before the UFC announced their initial suspension; 3) sports doping tests should be left to impartial third party experts, and 4) the UFC should have confirmed and evaluated my client's test results before dispensing discipline and making inaccurate statements that could permanently tarnish Cung's previously pristine reputation. The absence of a formal apology, in light of the recent “medical advice” the UFC received, which prompted them to lift his suspension, is outrageous.

#Throwbackthursday I shot this when I first moved to LA. #goodtimes makeup by @mohawkmakeup ️ |

Let me preface this blog, and every blog that follows, by saying that there is no “one right answer” when it comes to nutrition and fitness.    There are multiple ways to achieve your ideal body.   The advice from one nutrition and fitness expert can work very well for you.   Does that mean the advice from  every  other nutrition and fitness expert is wrong?  The answer is, of course it doesn’t.   The truth is there are multiple “correct” ways to reach your ideal body and maintain it.  This blog, and the suggestions that are made within it, in no way disqualify other advice as “wrong” or “bad”.   Just as there are “many ways to skin a cat” –there are also many ways to reach your ideal body.   Finding what works for you that you can also HAPPILY MAINTAIN long term – a lifestyle change where you can enjoy your food and workout a reasonable amount – is the key.

42 Bellator 130 Weigh-in Results: Newton, Vassell Hit Marks for 205-Pound Title Bout

The Bellator 130 headliner will move forward as planned, as both Emanuel Newton and Linton Vassell made weight on Thursday for their light heavyweight championship scrap. Newton, the reigning 205-pound king, tipped the scales at 204.1 pounds, while Vassell checked in at 204.5. Bellator 130 takes place at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kan., on Friday night; the evening’s main card airs on Spike TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT, while the preliminary draw streams on beginning at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. Newton has won six straight fights under the Bellator banner, most recently defending his title with a third-round knockout of Joey Beltran on Sept. 12. Vassell, meanwhile, has won nine straight, including three triumphs in the Bellator cage. In the co-main event, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling champion Bobby Lashley (247.1) squares off against Karl Etherington (258). The main card also includes a women’s featherweight clash between Marloes Coenen (145.9) and Annalisa Bucci (145.2) as well as a lightweight tussle pitting Dave Jansen (156) against Rick Hawn (156).

Cung Le calls for ‘rightly owed’ apology from UFC following botched positive HGH test

"While I feel vindicated in this matter, the UFC's press release does little in the way of an apology of which I believe I am rightly owed after unfairly enduring the public's scrutiny. Their decision to announce me as a user of performance enhancing drugs with little thought to the accuracy of the testing or proper procedures has caused my family and I great pain; that we have now come to know was completely unnecessary had the proper care been taken to ensure my test results were in fact valid proof of impropriety."

UFC 179 Notebook: Singular Focus

Glover Teixeira remains near the top of the 205-pound pecking order. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ Defeat was a foreign concept to Glover Teixeira for more than nine years -- until his ill-fated encounter with Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones at UFC 172 in April. Teixeira returns to the cage for the first time since his unanimous decision loss to “Bones” when he takes on Alliance MMA ’s Phil Davis in the UFC 179 “Aldo vs. Mendes 2” co-main event on Saturday at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. The 34-year-old has “Mr. Wonderful” in his crosshairs, with an eye towards a potential rematch with Jones. “I was very disappointed when I lost that fight,” Teixeira said during the “Countdown to UFC 179” program. “I was not as aggressive as I should be. I have to be more, like, the killer instinct. I have to change everything -- lifestyle, you know, diet -- because I want to get that belt one day. I need to get back over there and beat him.” Davis represents a significant hurdle in a division largely lacking in quality depth.

More Mature Bobby Lashley Planning Run at Bellator Heavyweight Championship

Bobby Lashley (right) was successful in his Bellator debut. | Keith Mills/ To hear him tell it, Bobby Lashley barely resembles the fighter he was four years ago, when his trial by fire came on a national stage for what was then the world’s second-largest mixed martial arts promotion. When the hulking professional wrestling star stumbled against Chad Griggs in his second Strikeforce appearance in August 2010, much of the hype surrounding his MMA foray subsided. Lashley admits that he might not have been ready for such a rapid ascent. Thanks to his professional wrestling background, however, Lashley was already a recognizable commodity before ever setting foot in the cage. He skipped the amateur scene, and signed with Strikeforce after three victories on the regional circuit. In hindsight, Lashley says he would probably have done things differently. “I understand the sport a lot more [now],” he said. “I was really young, didn’t have an amateur fights, just jumped right in there. [Three] fights into it, I’m going to the second largest promotion, whether I was ready for it or not.
