Cody Garbrandt, T.J. Dillashaw Agree They Are 'The Real Main Event' at UFC 217 |

UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt and top contender T.J. Dillashaw don't agree on much but they are least on the same page with one topic of discussion. While the title fight between Garbrandt and Dillashaw is being billed as the co-main event for UFC 217, the former teammates turned rivals know they deserve the headline status. The current main event for the card pits middleweight champion Michael Bisping against Georges St-Pierre, but Garbrandt and Dillashaw feel like their matchup is really what fans are clamoring to witness on Nov. 4. "This isn't a gimme fight. Bisping and GSP fight is a gimme fight, they're just trying to sell tickets. Our fight sells on all avenues, on all angles, everywhere," Garbrandt told MMAWeekly during the UFC 217 media conference call on Wednesday. "Everyone wants to see this fight, it's a grudge match. Two fighters going out there the former interim champion fighting the champion. That in itself is the main event. "No disrespect to Rose and Joanna

We’re edging closer and closer to the return of Georges St-Pierre at UFC 217, who’ll be challenging Michael Bisping for the middleweight title. The stakes are gigantic. Dana White Says UFC Could Eventually Bring Boxing Events ‘Under Our Umbrella’

During the promotion of the heavily hyped Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match this summer, UFC President Dana White could be seen sporting a Zuffa Boxing T-shirt on multiple occasions. “The Money Fight” was not a UFC event, but the Las Vegas-based organization did apply to be a co-promoter after initially ceding those duties solely Mayweather Promotions. By most any account, the event was a massive success. While White doesn’t envision a scenario where the UFC promotes a mixed card feature both boxing and MMA bouts, a boxing card promoted by the UFC seems feasible down the road. “I could see bringing boxing under our umbrella and trying to see what we could do with that,” White said during an interview on the Wall Street Journal's The Unnamed Podvideocast. “I could see doing that.” However, White doesn’t see himself leaving the UFC to work solely in the Sweet Science in any scenario. “This is what I love to do,” White said. “I’m 48 years old. This is what I jump out of bed every day and I love doing. I love working with [Ari [Emanuel]. Ari and I actually get along really, really well.

Derek Brunson: By the Numbers

Derek Brunson has made himself a mainstay in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s middleweight division, even if he has yet to sniff the upper reaches of a weight class currently ruled by Michael Bisping . Brunson will draw his first headlining assignment opposite onetime light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida in the UFC Fight Night 119 main event this Saturday at the Geraldo Jose de Almeida Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A win there could provide the Jackson-Wink MMA representative with the signature piece his resume lacks. Brunson has won six of his past eight bouts and owns an 8-3 record in the UFC that was highlighted by a five-fight winning streak between Aug. 30, 2014 and Sept. 17, 2016. He last competed at UFC Fight Night 110 in June, when he knocked out four-time Olympian Daniel Kelly 1:16 into the first round of their encounter in Auckland, New Zealand. As Brunson prepares for his three-round clash with the returning Machida, here are some of the numbers that have come to define him: 2: Post-fight performance bonuses earned since joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster in late 2012.

Lyoto Machida: 5 Defining Moments

When paired with advancing again and deteriorating performance, an 18-month United States Anti-Doping Agency suspension seemed like a legitimate threat to end the outstanding career of Lyoto Machida . At the very least, it made him a forgotten man in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s middleweight division. “The Dragon” will return to the cage for the first time in more than two years when he confronts Derek Brunson in the UFC Fight Night 119 main event this Saturday at Geraldo Jose de Almeida Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Machida steps back into the Octagon on a two-fight losing streak, having been savaged in consecutive bouts with Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero . Wins over reigning Bellator MMA light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader , onetime two-division Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Dan Henderson and former Dream , Strikeforce and Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titlist Gegard Mousasi anchor the 39-year-old Brazilian karateka’s resume, but he has gone a disappointing 6-7 since starting his career 16-0. Machida last visited the winner’s circle in December 2014, when he stopped C.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Till Just Teasing a Ten Spot

Just because your breakthrough win fails to break you into the top 10 does not mean you cannot have a real rankings impact. Undefeated 24-year-old Darren Till earned the biggest win of his career at UFC Fight Night 118 on Oct. 21 in Gdansk, Poland, where he broke perennial standout Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone ’s nose and stopped him in the first round. However, in the latest divisional rankings, Till’s sensational win was not enough for him to nab the No. 10 spot at 170 pounds over incumbent Kamaru Usman , who has gone 6-0 inside the Octagon. Nonetheless, the 16-0-1 loose-lipped Liverpudlian lands on our contenders list, while Cerrone’s third straight loss sees him exit the top-15 stage. UFC Fight Night 118 also saw another undefeated prospect join a respective bubble list, as 22-year-old Aspen Ladd pounded out Sweden’s Lina Lansberg in the second round, taking her spot among the women’s 135-pound contenders. Ladd is not the foremost blue chipper on the rise in this rankings update, however. That honor belongs to Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki flyweight champion Ariane Lipski .

Cody Garbrandt Plans to Drop to Flyweight After UFC 217 to Challenge Demetrious Johnson

Cody Garbrandt doesn’t mind looking one step ahead, in fact, he prefers it. While “No Love” has no problem focusing on UFC 217 foe and former Team Alpha Male training partner T.J. Dillashaw , he already has something in mind for his next move following what he expects to be a successful bantamweight title defense. And it doesn’t appear to involve the 135-pound weight class. “With a knockout over T.J., I’ve wiped out the division,” Garbrandt said during a media call on Wednesday. “There’s a big gap between [ Dominick Cruz ], myself and T.J. and it falls off from there. I always like to have a fight ahead of myself. Obviously, I’m focusing on T.J., but ‘Mighty Mouse’ is next at 125 pounds.” Demetrious Johnson is coming off a submission victory over Ray Borg at UFC 216, a triumph that gave him sole possession of the promotion’s record for most successful title defenses that he previously shared with Anderson Silva . Johnson and Garbrandt have danced around a potential superfight throughout 2017, but the reigning flyweight king recently seemed more open to the possibility than he had in the past.

UFC champ Cody Garbrandt calls T.J. Dillashaw 'a gimme,' looks toward 'Mighty Mouse'

Not so long ago, Dillashaw was trying to make the same move. When Garbrandt injured his back, forcing him out of a fight with his ex-teammate at UFC 213, Dillashaw pushed for a title fight with champ Johnson (27-2-1 MMA, 15-1-1 UFC), who was then on the cusp of breaking the UFC’s record for most consecutive title defenses. But Johnson turned down the bout, instead naming Ray Borg as his next contender, and Dillashaw was rebooked against Garbrandt at UFC 217.

Film review: 'Conor McGregor: Notorious' is a fascinating fly-on-the-wall documentary

Another amazing moment captured on film is McGregor being paid a visit by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The interaction between the two is fun and although it’s just a few moments, the biggest takeaway is when McGregor and Devlin show the “The Austrian Oak” out and as they shut the door, there’s a real moment of innocence as they both look at each other, smiling and laughing, gobsmacked that one of the biggest stars in Hollywood took time out of his schedule to pay them a visit. Instances like this captured throughout the film are real high points providing a good balance of showcasing McGregor the fighter versus the everyday guy thrust into the A-list world – that despite the money, fame and everything that comes with celebratory status, McGregor thoroughly enjoyed the journey, even if he had to pinch himself from time to time.
