Omari Akhmedov vs. Mats Nilsson added to UFC 182 in Las Vegas

Akhmedov, a Dagestani-born Russian, signed with the UFC in 2013 and knocked out Thiago Perpetuo in his UFC debut, which earned him a “Fight of the Night” bonus. However, in his next bout, the 27-year-old suffered a submission loss to Gunnar Nelson at UFC Fight Night 37 in March and halted an overall 11-fight winning streak that was built largely on the Russian fight circuit.

UFC teases 'can't-miss event' announcement on Nov. 17

The upcoming event comes two days after the UFC makes its debut in Mexico on Nov. 15. Mark Hunt and Fabricio Werdum fight in the headliner of the pay-per-view event, UFC 180, at Mexico City Arena. However, it’s not clear if the announcement has anything to do with the UFC 180.

Fight Night Sydney Free Fight: Luke Rockhold vs. Tim Boetsch

At UFC 172, no. 5 middleweight contender Luke Rockhold looks to stay at the top of the middleweight division as he battles Tim "The Barbarian" Boetsch. Watch Rockhold take on Michael Bisping in the main event at UFC Fight Night Sydney.

Backed by 'dream team,' Kaitlin Young ready for fresh start at Invicta FC 9

Despite the fact she has fought and beaten some of the best, Young knows the UFC is unlikely to take on a new talent with a sub-.500 record. Because of that, she believes it’s time to turn things around and go on a run. And with the support of her new team, Young said she views her Invicta FC 9 contest as a fresh start.

UFC: TUF Brazil to be filmed in Las Vegas

Two more seasons of the South American version of the long running reality show would be churned out, but I doubt any could ever compare to that first season. Today,  MMA Fighting reports that a 4th season has been announced, and this time, TUF Brazil will be held in the United States. Why? Because the UFC said so. Much like their Latin America season, TUF Brazil will be filmed in Las Vegas.

Javier Mendez: Cain Velasquez's knee surgery a success, but had 'more damage than anticipated'

With the news that heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez had suffered a knee injury in training, thus forcing him off his big main event title defense against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 in Mexico City, the questions over his ability to stay healthy came flaring up again. Velasquez last fought at UFC 166 in Houston in October 2013, when he defended his title in a trilogy fight with Junior dos Santos . In that fight he suffered a shoulder injury that kept him shelved for an extended period of time, and, in a roundabout way, led to him coaching opposite Werdum on The Ultimate Fighter Latin America. Before then, he’d suffered a shoulder injury against Brock Lesnar at UFC at UFC 121 , and it came to light later than he fought Dos Santos the first time with a knee injury. He suffered the only loss of his career that night in Anaheim. Though Velasquez was nursing a knee injury during his training camp, he was still on schedule to defend his title on Nov. 15 until the latest setback. According to his head coach at AKA, Javier Mendez , who appeared on the Monday edition of The MMA Hour, Velasquez hurt himself further while defending a takedown.

Holy GSP: Montreal's Best is Back in the Gym | FIGHTLAND

When he returns—we don’t think GSP would announce his return to the gym without a larger plan brewing up north—we’d love to see him reclaim his rightful place as king of the welterweights, even if Rory Macdonald is well on his way to keep the belt in Montreal himself. Regardless, the return of Georges St-Pierre to the Octagon could be the biggest news of the year, and just thinking about the possible match-ups has us hyped as hell.

Coach: Cain May Miss More Time

Thanks to a litany of injuries, mainly in his knees and shoulders, the 32-year-old Velasquez (13-1) has only fought three times since recapturing the heavyweight title in December 2012. As a result of his extended layoffs, an interim heavyweight title will be on the line when Werdum faces replacement fighter Mark Hunt at UFC 180.

Mission Accomplished for McGregor at UFC 179 | FIGHTLAND

Just by being invited to be the promotion’s guest fighter at an event where the featherweight titleholder would be decided set off alarm bells for fans and media as to who might be the division’s next title contender. Posing for pictures with the consensus greatest MMA fighter of all time, his face to face with Anderson Silva is more proof of how valuable McGregor is to UFC brass.

Sherdog Prospect Watch: Five UFC-Ready Fighters - Fit For Primetime

Nicolas Dalby reigns inside the Cage Warriors organization. | Ryan O’Leary/Sherdog.com This article marks the start of a new occasional feature on Sherdog.com, focusing on technical analysis of prospects and their future chances at competing at the highest levels of MMA. This series is less concerned with human-interest stories and narratives than with what prospects are capable of in the cage, what kind of team they have around them and how they project in the future. This is, of course, easier said than done. Prospect analysis is an inherently uncertain proposition in any sport -- think about Darko Milicic, Vernon Gholston, JaMarcus Russell or Jesus Montero -- and even more so in MMA, which lacks decades-long track records from which to work. That does not mean scouting has to be a total crapshoot. In order to remedy the lack of institutional methods, I examined a sample of 150 prospects in order to isolate the various factors that contributed to future success. Three significant variables stood out: First, almost all big-time prospects started their professional careers before the age of 26.

WSOF 16 set for Dec. 13 with Palhares-Fitch, Glenn-Palmer title fights

Fitch, who challenged for the UFC’s 170-pound title in 2014, was one of the more surprising UFC releases in recent memory when he was cut after a loss to Demian Maia at UFC 156. He signed with WSOF and was choked unconscious by Josh Burkman at WSOF 3 in June 2013. But he since has rebounded with decision wins over Marcelo Alfaya and Dennis Hallman, the latter coming at WSOF 11 in a middleweight bout.

Invicta FC 9’s Amanda Bell sees upside following recent firing from day job

“I’m not going to lose this fight and screw it up just because these idiots from this place I’m working at decided they were going to screw me over,” Bell said. “I brushed it off and did something I thought was going to help me. I didn’t get upset or depressed. I thought I would find anther job, but I want to wait until after the fight. Tyler Spurlin Promises ‘White Tigers and Knuckle Sandwiches’ at PFC 7 as Daymar Ortiz Looks for Win in PFC Debut

It may be all smiles and jokes now, but fans know that Spurlin versus Ortiz is going to be a bloody, grinding battle. The exact type of fight we’ve come to expect from both men. Can Spurlin improve to 2-1 on PFC cards or will Ortiz extend his own winning streak to three with a successful PFC debut? The only way to find out is to be there to see this as well as the rest of the stacked R’N’R card and a P.O.D. concert at the National Western Complex on Nov. 21 in Denver.

Michael Bisping fires back at Luke Rockhold: 'I'll see you in Australia, you a--hole'

"It's obvious that if you've been analyzing me, you clearly don't have a psychology degree," Bisping said in response to Rockhold's claim. "So quit the amateur philosophy there because listen, I love fighting. I truly love it. That's why I do it. Nobody puts a gun to my head and makes me fight. I don't do it out of necessity, I don't do it because I have to do it for the money or anything like that. I truly love doing this. I've done it since I was eight years old. Eight years old I first walked into a jiu-jitsu gym, and at the end of it we put the gloves on and we started boxing, and that's what really set my imagination on fire and kept me walking into the gym every single time.

Exclusive: Cung Le and Victor Conte Explain How UFC Drug Test Was the Failure | MMAWeekly.com

“So, first of all, the basic information saying urine samples by all fighters on the card were done at the Hong Kong lab. That is just simply false regarding Cung Le, because the results that we have say Quest Diagnostic Laborites in Kansas. So, they start out by providing misinformation, the first sentence is just factually wrong. The second sentence in part exposes why the UFC should not be doing their own testing, and whoever is advising them. The second sentence reads, ‘additionally the UFC requested the laboratory to test blood samples from four fighters for human growth hormone (HGH), erythropoietin (EPO), and testosterone.’ Now, let’s take a look at that test by test. Yes, WADA approved laboratories do testing of human growth hormone on blood samples, but they don’t do total human growth hormone concentration test by itself, but I’m sure you’ve read they do the isoform test, the biomarker test, and the serum IGF-1 test. So, it’s like a table has to have at least three legs in order for it to stand up and they didn’t even do any of the three legs on the testing.

Watch a cheerfully drunk Randy Couture talk about his Iceman costume

I know Dana White has labelled Randy Couture as the biggest jerk on Planet Jerkface, but if that's the case he must also be King Two Face from the Two Face Galaxy, because every time I see him I just wanna give him a handshake and thank him for being everything right with America and humanity in general. Here he is drunk, but still cheery enough to have a nice conversation with a TMZ paparazzo. Considering these encounters often end with assault charges or apologies for vile profanities, I think Randy Couture handled things like a champ.

Why is Michael Bisping in so many feuds? Luke Rockhold has a theory

“Every time I’m in the same room with him for an interview or something, he’s fighting the urge to punch me in the face,” Bisping said. “For me, I’m on the other side. I’m getting a kick out of it, winding him up even more. I’m acting a certain way in front of him, but those aren’t my true feelings. I know Luke Rockhold’s a tough fighter, and he’s going to be tough on the night. But I’m winding him up, hoping to take him out of his game, and now he’s talking about trying to finish me in the first round. Will it be detrimental to his game? Who knows, but he’s really worked up and he’ll probably come out guns blazing in the first round. But will he still be able to do that in the second, third, fourth?”

ONE FC Reschedules Friday's Event, Shuffles Chinese Schedule | MMAWeekly.com

Hmn…It’s a good thing it is still an event at a later date plus another event some time after 7th Nov this year. However, the reason is not the right reason for the prosponement because the original date of Oct 31st was nothing wrong and if anything, it would have allowed for other events to follow. My guess is down to the laws in China as well as One FC does not have an exclusive deal in China but another promotion does, therefore they werent allow to be the first foreign org to hold an event. Although, it is now a reduction from 4 events to 2 events, it is still better than no event in China. One step at a time is always better than too quick too soon then totally slip down. Hope these two scheduled events will serve the basis for 10 events in 2015. I do however believe the demand in China for mma is high and One FC will have a massive following and attendance at their events. Let China showcase itsself to the world.

While Duane “Bang” Ludwig experienced something of a career revival during his stint as Team Alpha Male’s striking coach, he is a name that never really left the tongues of MMA fans with a true appreciation for the striking elements of the sport. Consistently and rightfully praised by Joe Rogan as being one of the most elite strikers to ever enter the UFC, Ludwig holds both the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history and the honor of being the only K-1 World MAX champion to compete under the Zuffa banner.

Boxing News: Adonis Stevenson to Defend WBC Title Against Dmitry Sukhotsky

WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson will return to action in Quebec City on Dec. 19 to face Dmitry Sukhotsky in a Showtime-televised title defense. Canadian-based promotional company Groupe Yvon Michel announced the pairing on Monday. The card will also feature Artur Beterbiev (6-0, 6 KOs) versus Kevin Bizier (26-1, 16 KOs). Stevenson (24-1, 20 KOs) is coming off of a decision victory against Andrzej Fonfara. The upcoming bout will serve as his fourth title defense. Big fights await the southpaw, who recently left HBO Boxing to join forces with promoter Al Haymon and Showtime. The rumors circulating indicate future fights with Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal -- that is, of course, if Stevenson can get through the Russian with a victory. Sukhotsky (22-2, 16 KO) has not suffered a loss since July 2012, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Cornelius White for the vacant IBF title.

UFC fight bookings roundup – 10/21 – 10/28

Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2014, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.
