UFC Fight Night 119 ‘Brunson vs. Machida’ Play-by-Play, Results & Round-by-Round Scoring

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Max Griffin Round 1 Griffin comes out firing hard jabs and long right hands over the top, backing up dos Santos to the fence. Dos Santos and Griffin both come charging with flying knees at the same time, but wind up tangling and engaging in a brief clinch on the wall. Dos Santos starts to find his jab now, opening up a cut on the right cheek of Griffin in the second minute of the bout. "Capoeira" tries a double-leg shot, but Griffin defends the takedown with ease. Griffin runs into a jab-right straight from dos Santos, but the American keeps coming forward. Dos Santos catches a charging Griffin off-balance but can't capitalize on the stumble. Griffin steps into the pocket and gets a hard knee to the body. Suddenly, a counter right hook from Griffin wobbles the legs of dos Santos, who drops to his guard near the center of the cage. Griffin pounces but gets kicked away, and dos Santos is able to jump back to his feet after only a few seconds. Dos Santos stings Griffin with a nasty knee to the body and follows up with a swarm of hooks, forcing Griffin to stagger backward under fire.

UFC Champ Michael Bisping Shrugs Off Lawsuit, Calls Claims ‘Completely Inaccurate’

With the biggest fight of his career looming, Michael Bisping is brushing off claims that he attacked a 19-year-old man at an Anaheim, Calif., gym in July. “It is completely inaccurate. It is not factual,” Bisping said during a media call on Thursday. “Of course, he’s filed papers. I haven’t been served, but I’ve heard about this. But no distraction, mate.” Antonio Georgakopoulos has filed a lawsuit claiming that Bisping called him a “little punk” and an “idiot” and allegedly choked him for taking the middleweight champion’s weights at a 24 Fitness gym. Georgakopoulos claims that he nearly lost consciousness before another gym member broke up the altercation. Police did not file criminal charges against Bisping. Still, Georgakopoulos is filing a lawsuit for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and other claims. Bisping will defend his middleweight title against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 217 in New York on Nov. 4. It is the highest-profile bout of the Englishman’s career to date, and he believes the timing of the lawsuit is no coincidence.

New York Commission Adopts Instant Replay Ahead of UFC 217 | MMAWeekly.com

Obviously the inclusion of instant replay for now only affects the outcome of any fight and is not allowed simply to review an illegal or accidental strike unless that forces the end of a contest. Still it’s a welcome addition to the rule set to ensure the correct outcome is rendered for a fight taking place in the state of New York.

UFC Fight Night 119 results: Thiago 'Marreta' Santos becomes first to TKO Jack Hermansson

After taking a hardy body kick, Hermansson pushed to put the fight in more comfortable territory. When his attempt failed, however, Santos poured on the offense. Hermansson was battered across the canvas, and while he managed to block most of the punches, he was rendered completely defensive.

Georges St. Pierre: Retirement Not a Certainty Even with Loss to Bisping at UFC 217

Georges St. Pierre ’s Octagon return might not be a one-and-done — even if he loses to Michael Bisping at UFC 217 . A little more than a month ago, St. Pierre told the New York Post that he would call it a career if he came up short against “The Count” at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 4. “If I ever lose, I’m retired, it’s finished for me. I’m one fight away from retirement,” St-Pierre said then. “I don’t plan on losing but if I do, it’s finished.” However, the Tristar Gym stalwart sounded less certain about those plans during a media conference call on Thursday. Should he lose to Bisping in their middleweight title bout, his next move depends on the nature of that defeat. “It always depends how [I lose]. I can’t say right now, nothing is for sure, but it depends how; how it happens,” St. Pierre said. “Sometimes you win a fight and you should lose and sometimes you should lose, but you win. “It depends how it happens and how I feel – it depends on a lot of stuff – but I don’t see myself going away for a long time, so it’s going to be a good night.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Officially Booked for Return Fight at UFC 219 | MMAWeekly.com

Barboza currently sits at No. 3 in the UFC lightweight division, while Nurmagomedov still maintains the No. 2 spot. The winner is likely to be next in line for a shot at the belt, if Ferguson, the interim champion, and lightweight titleholder McGregor square off, as expected.

Combate Americas Reveals Alternate Bouts for ‘Copa Combate’ Bantamweight Tourney

Combate Americas will hold two alternate bouts during its one-night, eight-man bantamweight “Copa Combate” tournament on Nov. 11. Levy Saul Marroquin Salazar will square off against Alejandro Abomohor , while Felipe Vargas will meet Jose Calvo . The winner of those contests will be available to step in should anyone from the original bracket be unable to compete or continue. Combate Americas also announced that a women’s atomweight clash between Sheila Padilla and Lisbeth Lopez Silva has been added to the preliminary draw. “Copa Combate” takes place at Grand Oasis in Cancun and features the aforementioned tournament, where the winner will be awarded a $100,000 prize. The event will be televised on Telemundo Deportes at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT, with prelims streaming on TelemundoDeportes.com at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. Salazar is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Andres Quintana at Combate Americas 15 on June 30. Abohomor, a native of Columbia, enters the matchup on a three-bout skid. Columbia’s Vargas has been victorious in his first two professional bouts, but hasn’t competed since January 2016.

Conor McGregor Opens as Favorite in Potential Bouts vs. Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz

Conor McGregor ’s next move remains unclear, but the remaining lightweight champion would be a betting favorite against two possible UFC opponents. According to initial odds released by Bovada , McGregor would be a slight favorite (-165) against current interim 155-pound king Tony Ferguson , who is at +135. Ferguson defeated Kevin Lee via third-round submission to claim interim gold at UFC 216 and is currently riding a 10-fight winning streak. Meanwhile, McGregor is a bigger favorite (-250) against Nate Diaz (+200). The rivals split a pair of bouts at welterweight in 2016, with Diaz winning via second-round submission at UFC 196 and McGregor taking a majority decision at UFC 202. The Stockton, Calif., native hasn’t returned to the Octagon since UFC 202. All the aforementioned odds are subject to change over time, and either bout must occur by July 15, 2018 for the odds to be valid. McGregor hasn’t competed for the Las Vegas-based promotion since winning the lightweight crown against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 last November.

Edson Barboza vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov Booked for UFC 219 in Las Vegas

A pivotal lightweight showdown between Edson Barboza and Khabib Nurmagomedov has been booked for UFC 219 . Barboza initially announced the pairing at a UFC Q&A in Sao Paulo, and promotion officials subsequently confirmed the bout. UFC 219 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 30 and also includes a bantamweight tilt between Dominick Cruz and Jimmie Rivera and a welterweight clash pitting Carlos Condit against Neil Magny . “I know it’s going to be a big war,” Barboza said at the Q&A. “You guys know I love war, so definitely be ready for this, guys. I hope you guys don’t blink. This fight is going to be a big war. I’m ready for this.” Barboza has won four of his last five Octagon appearances and is coming off consecutive triumphs over Beneil Dariush , Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis . The 31-year-old Brazilian is 13-4 overall during his tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion. Injuries have limited the unbeaten Nurmagomedov’s activity in recent years. Sherdog’s Top 10: Fastest Knockouts in UFC History - Fastest Knockouts in UFC History

Crowds react to them like nothing else in combat sports. Fast knockouts have always been an indisputable draw of the Ultimate Fighting Championship , dating to its earliest iterations. They serve as wakeup calls for all those who practice mixed martial arts as a profession and have at times served as rallying cries for those who cannot stomach the violence that occurs inside the cage. During the 24 years the UFC has existed, its record books have been written and rewritten by quick-strike KOs, the authors as diverse as the methods they use: punches, knees, kicks, elbows and even slams. From blue-chip prospects and hall of fame-caliber champions to everything in between, the one common denominator has been the jolt of electricity they send coursing through arenas across the globe. The latest installment of the Sherdog Top 10 series examines the fastest submissions in UFC history: *** HONORABLE MENTIONS: Robert Emerson def. Manny Gamburyan -- Punches, 0:12 (UFC 87), Johny Hendricks def. Jon Fitch -- Punch, 0:12 (UFC 141); Gary Goodridge def.

Colby Covington Vows to Retire ‘One-Trick Pony’ Demian Maia in First Round

Colby Covington didn’t necessarily want to fight Demian Maia in hostile territory, but he knew it was his best chance to face the Brazilian submission specialist. Covington and Maia will square off in the welterweight co-main event at UFC Fight Night 119 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday night. The evening’s main card will be televised on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. “I don’t want to fight here, but it was the only way to face Demian,” Covington recently said. “Fighting in his home, in front of his fans. I know how Brazilians are and I hope they are very loud. But after the fight, I know they will be in silence.” Maia began his promotional tenure as a middleweight, eventually challenging for the title against Anderson Silva in 2010. The 39-year-old has arguably had his greatest success at 170 pounds, however. Since moving down a division in 2012, Maia has compiled a 10-3 record in the UFC. A seven-fight winning streak from 2014 to 2017 earned him a welterweight championship bout against Tyron Woodley , which Maia lost via unanimous decision after the reigning champ denied an astounding 21 takedown attempts.

UFC Fight Night 119 results: John Lineker outstrikes Marlon Vera for unanimous decision

Lineker used a more patient approach than normal in this fight, opting to take his time while pursuing the taller, lankier Vera. But in close quarters he became the same slugger he’s always been, ripping Vera with hooks to the head and body and keeping him largely on the defensive.

Joseph Duffy: McGregor vs. Ferguson the right match, but not because it's owed to division

Duffy, who meets James Vick (11-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in a 155-pound at UFC 217 on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, is looking to climb the ranks into a championship fight of his own. He just signed a new seven-fight contract with the UFC and said he hopes to hold the belt before the end of that deal. For a budding contender such as himself, it would seem preferable to have a champion who will defend against the top challenger regardless of circumstance, but McGregor’s UFC career has been far from traditional.

The UFC middleweight champion said he’s heard “stories” that convinced him St-Pierre used to be a dirty fighter. UFC Fight Night 119 results: Pedro Munhoz gets another finish, taps Rob Font in first

A brief tussle on the mat taught Font it probably wasn’t wise to match submissions with the Brazilian, so he stood and tried to put together combinations. Midway through the frame, however, Munhoz figured out he’d have an easier time landing punches if he looped them around Font’s defense. Sure enough, the American couln’t stop a series of wide hooks that slammed into the side of his head.
