UFC Fight Night 119 Medical Suspensions: Lyoto Machida Out Until 2018 After Brutal KO Loss

Ryan Bader: By the Numbers

The new surroundings seem to suit Ryan Bader just fine. “The Ultimate Fighter 8” winner and Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran will defend his Bellator MMA light heavyweight championship against Linton Vassell in the Bellator 186 main event on Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania. It marks Bader’s first appearance since he made his promotional debut at Bellator 180 on June 24 and eked out a split decision over Phil Davis to capture the 205-pound title. The Power MMA Team cornerstone enters the cage on a three-fight winning streak that has seen him best Davis, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ilir Latifi in succession; only Davis went the distance. Long viewed as one of the sport’s premier light heavyweights, Bader sports 12 finishes among his 23 professional victories. As Bader prepares to risk his championship against the crafty Vassell, here are some of the numbers that have come to define him: .821: Career winning percentage. That includes Bader’s 15-5 mark in the UFC. 2: NCAA All-America selections at Arizona State University, where he was also a three-time Pac-10 Conference champion.

ATT co-founder Ricardo Liborio condemns Colby Covington, announces departure from team

I feel that I must make a statement in light of the comments made by Colby Convigton along with the amount of messages sent to me from Brazil, the United States, and from all over the world. I'm here to state that I am no longer with American Top Team. Also, I absolutely do not condone any behavior that instigates hate, prejudice, or bullying of any kind. It upsets me to see the sport taking this direction of blatant disrespect. It’s unsportsmanlike, but it also fosters and promotes a culture of cruelty towards others. Combat Sports should always represent the qualities of humility, empathy, and respect. I dedicated my life to the Martial arts, and to the formation and growth of this team. I can not discuss at this time the reasons for my departure from ATT. At some point, I will. For the time being, I want the members of ATT to know that they will always be in my heart❤

Manager for McGregor, Ferguson Calls Lightweight Title Unification Bout ‘Inevitable’

Audie Attar, who represents both Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson under the Paradigm Sports umbrella, believes that the lightweights are destined to meet in the Octagon. Exactly when that 155-pound championship unification bout will happen remains a mystery, however. “The sport is one where they’re gonna compete,” Attar said on Michael Bisping ’s 'Believe You Me’ podcast. “If you have clients in the same weight class and they’re the top of the division, they’re gonna meet. . . With Tony and Conor, it’s inevitable. You have the lightweight champ and the interim lightweight champ, so that’s a fight that’s naturally gonna happen.” McGregor claimed the lightweight throne with a second-round stoppage of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York last November. He has yet to defend the title, but after earning a blockbuster payday for a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather on Aug. 26, options are plentiful for the Dublin native. While Ferguson, who won interim gold against Kevin Lee at UFC 216, is certainly a top candidate, a potentially lucrative trilogy bout with Nate Diaz also looms.

Opinion: Getting Ahead By Getting People Mad

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * First it was boos that rained down upon Colby Covington . Then it was booze. After his unanimous decision win over hometown-favorite Demian Maia in the UFC Fight Night 119 co-headliner on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Covington proceeded to get on the microphone and call the host country “a dump” and the 10,000 Brazilians in attendance “filthy animals.” Derek Kronig was on translator duty for the event, but Daniel Cormier didn’t bother to pass him the microphone. Covington reveled in it: “We ain’t translating tonight, baby!” As he was rushed out of the arena by security, fans pelted him with cups of beer and whatever trash was within reach. Clearly, no translation was needed. Covington and his antics became the most talked-about part of the show, despite his fight with Maia being altogether forgettable. On paper, beating a top-five welterweight in his hometown is impressive, but the manner in which Covington won did not make anyone clamor to see him in a title fight.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Chaos Amidst the Welterweight Order

Love him or hate him -- admittedly, it is probably the latter -- you can no longer deny Colby Covington is an elite welterweight. That is probably the way he prefers it, anyway. No, Covington was not in the final fight of UFC Fight Night 119 on Oct. 28 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but MMA lore will remember him as the true “main event” of the card. After an awkward start to striking proceedings, Covington took over against the gentlemanly Demian Maia , as he badly battered and bruised the hometown Paulista over the final two rounds to win the biggest bout of his pro career. More notably, the 29-year-old American Top Team product refused to apologize for his incendiary comments about Brazil and its people, doubling down on his disses that the country is “a dump” and its citizens were “filthy animals.” Because of his pre- and post-fight antics, Covington is now easily among MMA’s most reviled characters. More crucially, with the Maia win, Covington is now 8-1 in the Octagon and debuts in the welterweight top 10 at No. 7; Maia falls from third to eighth.

Conor McGregor Apologizes for Using Homophobic Slur Backstage at UFC Event |

“I have to put my hands up there. That’s the fighter I was going to watch and support and I witnessed him lose a fight — a potential career defining or career ending fight — in a manner where the opponent was stalling and running away. I was upset and I was whispering in his ear and I was speaking on that and I said what I said.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night ‘Brunson vs. Machida’

Lyoto Machida in hindsight might have been better served staying on the sidelines. Derek Brunson put away the former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder with punches in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 119 main event on Saturday at Geraldo Jose de Almeida Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In his first appearance since June 27, 2015, Machida checked out 2:30 into Round 1. He has not won a fight in 1,044 days. Neither man bucked conventional wisdom with his approach. Machida bounced in an out of range while searching for one of his patented precision counters, only to be countered himself. Brunson clipped “The Dragon” with a sweeping left hook, punched him to the canvas and then drew the curtain with violent ground-and-pound, his assault leaving no doubt that he was the better man. It was the 14th first-round finish of the Wilmington, North Carolina, native’s career and puts him in prime position to challenge one of the top contenders at 185 pounds. In the aftermath of UFC Fight Night “Brunson vs.

Dana White Claims He Paid Mark Hunt Nearly $2 Million, Despite Lawsuit |

Hunt has also claimed that White has it in for him, that he’s simply trying to find a way to force Hunt out of the UFC after he filed a lawsuit against the company because of how it has handled fighters convicted of using performance-enhancing substances. The suit was filed after Brock Lesnar was sanctioned for testing positive to banned substances on two drug tests in relation to his UFC 200 bout with Hunt. Lesnar was suspended, fined, and his initial win over Hunt was changed to a no contest.

KSW 41 Becomes Title Doubleheader With Borys Mankowski-Dricus Du Plessis WW Title Bout

KSW 41 is now a championship doubleheader at the very least. Preeminent Poland-based promotion Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki 's forthcoming event will feature a welterweight title bout between champion Borys Mankowski and once-beaten South African challenger Dricus Du Plessis . The company announced the bout officially on Monday. KSW 41 is scheduled for Dec. 23 at the famed Spodek arena in Katowice, Poland. The promotion had previously announced a featherweight title rematch between champ Kleber Koike Erbst and former titlist Artur Sowinski , as well as a super heavyweight attraction featuring notorious rapper-slash-fighter “Popek Monster” Pawel Mikolajuw facing actor and judoka Tomasz Oswiecinski . Mankowski, 28, took the KSW welterweight strap in May 2014, choking out Aslambek Saidov . Since then, he has defended his title successfully three times, beating the likes of Ultimate Fighting Championship veterans John Maguire and Jesse Taylor . “The Tasmanian Devil” is coming off of a defeat, however, as he stepped up to 185 pounds this past May for KSW's milestone “Colosseum” card in front of nearly 58,000 fans in Warsaw, losing a highly contentious decision to the promotion's middleweight champion Mamed Khalidov in a 181-pound catch-weight contest.

By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 119

Derek Brunson silenced the masses in Sao Paulo. A counter left hand over the top and a flurry of follow-up punches from the North Carolina native brought an unceremonious end to Lyoto Machida ’s Octagon return in the UFC Fight Night 119 “Machida vs. Brunson” headliner at Ibirapuera Gymnasium on Saturday night. Machida, who was competing for the first time since June 2015, has lost four of his last five UFC appearances. Meanwhile, Colby Covington lived up to his pre-fight boasts and battered former title challenger Demian Maia in the evening’s co-main event, winning a clear-cut unanimous decision. After using his defensive wrestling to thwart Maia’s renowned ground game, Covington trashed Brazil and called out reigning champ Tyron Woodley , who authored a somewhat similar performance against Maia in July. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 119, with statistics courtesy of Related » Matches to Make After UFC Sao Paulo 7: Finishes since 2012 for Brunson, tying him with Thiago Santos for most in the middleweight division during that time.

Covington Calls for Title Shot, Says He Beat Maia ‘Way Worse’ Than Champ Woodley

What Colby Covington did to Demian Maia was not totally unlike what Tyron Woodley did to the Brazilian grappling ace some three months earlier. Only Covington believes his performance far surpassed the reigning welterweight king. Like Woodley, Covington used his wrestling to thwart Maia at every turn, as he stuffed 13 takedowns en route to a unanimous decision triumph in the UFC Fight Night 119 co-headliner in Sao Paulo on Saturday night. Woodley, meanwhile, defended all 21 Maia takedown tries to retain his 170-pound belt at UFC 214 in a largely lackluster bout. “Tyron Woodley, look what I did to Demian Maia in three rounds. I beat him way worse than Woodley could do in five rounds,” Covington said. “The only person I want to see in a contract in front of my face is Tyron Woodley. He´s been running from me, I have beat him in the gym before, I will finish him inside the Octagon.” Woodley and Covington have shared the gym at American Top Team in the past. According to the man known as “Chaos,” he forced the champ to quit in the middleweight of five-round sparring session on one occasion.
