Conor McGregor Apologizes for Using Homophobic Slur Backstage at UFC Event |

“I have to put my hands up there. I was watching a fighter, a sparring partner, a training partner, a friend, a brother of mine who has given his health — his body health, his brain health, everything — to help me prepare for fights to give my brain health and my body health to entertain the public. That’s the fighter I was going to watch and support and I witnessed him lose a fight — a potential career defining or career ending fight — in a manner where the opponent was stalling and running away. I was upset and I was whispering in his ear and I was speaking on that and I said what I said.

Two New Bouts Added to UFC Fight Night 122 Card in Shanghai

The lineup for UFC Fight Night 122 continues to grow, as the promotion recently confirmed a pair of matchups for the Nov. 25 card in mainland China. Cyril Asker will square off against James Mulheron at heavyweight, while Alex Garcia will meet Muslim Salikhov at welterweight. UFC Fight Night 122 takes place at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shangai and is headlined by a middleweight clash between Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum . The card will stream in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass. Asker is 1-2 thus far in the UFC, including a first-round technical knockout loss to Walt Harris in his most recent outing at UFC Fight Night 111 on June 17. Mulheron fell to 11-2 in his professional career after falling to Justin Willis via unanimous decision in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 113. Anchored at Tristar Gym, Garcia has accumulated a 4-3 promotional mark and is coming off a decision defeat to Tim Means at UFC Fight Night 112 on June 25. Nicknamed “The King of Kung Fu,” Salikhov will enter his first promotional foray with a 12-1 record — 10 of those triumphs have come via knockout or technical knockout.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - Chaos Amidst the Welterweight Order

Love him or hate him -- admittedly, it is probably the latter -- you can no longer deny Colby Covington is an elite welterweight. That is probably the way he prefers it, anyway. No, Covington was not in the final fight of UFC Fight Night 119 on Oct. 28 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but MMA lore will remember him as the true “main event” of the card. After an awkward start to striking proceedings, Covington took over against the gentlemanly Demian Maia , as he badly battered and bruised the hometown Paulista over the final two rounds to win the biggest bout of his pro career. More notably, the 29-year-old American Top Team product refused to apologize for his incendiary comments about Brazil and its people, doubling down on his disses that the country is “a dump” and its citizens were “filthy animals.” Because of his pre- and post-fight antics, Covington is now easily among MMA’s most reviled characters. More crucially, with the Maia win, Covington is now 8-1 in the Octagon and debuts in the welterweight top 10 at No. 7; Maia falls from third to eighth.

Jon Jones Already Preparing for a Return? |

After returning from suspension, Jones made it all the way to the cage with Cormier at UFC 214. He knocked the champ out, making what was then defined as one of the most epic returns in sports history. That didn’t last long, however, as it was later revealed that a drug test sample collected on the day of weigh-ins returned positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid. Shortly thereafter, he was stripped of the title for a third time.

Manager for McGregor, Ferguson Calls Lightweight Title Unification Bout ‘Inevitable’

Audie Attar, who represents both Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson under the Paradigm Sports umbrella, believes that the lightweights are destined to meet in the Octagon. Exactly when that 155-pound championship unification bout will happen remains a mystery, however. “The sport is one where they’re gonna compete,” Attar said on Michael Bisping ’s 'Believe You Me’ podcast. “If you have clients in the same weight class and they’re the top of the division, they’re gonna meet. . . With Tony and Conor, it’s inevitable. You have the lightweight champ and the interim lightweight champ, so that’s a fight that’s naturally gonna happen.” McGregor claimed the lightweight throne with a second-round stoppage of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York last November. He has yet to defend the title, but after earning a blockbuster payday for a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather on Aug. 26, options are plentiful for the Dublin native. While Ferguson, who won interim gold against Kevin Lee at UFC 216, is certainly a top candidate, a potentially lucrative trilogy bout with Nate Diaz also looms.

Former NFL Standout Greg Hardy Harbors UFC Heavyweight Championship Aspirations

A little more than a year after Greg Hardy revealed his intentions to pursue a mixed martial arts career, the troubled former NFL star will make his amateur debut. On Saturday, Hardy is expected to face Joe Hawkins in a heavyweight bout at Rise of a Warrior 21 at the Havert L. Fenn Center in Ft. Pierce, Fla. Hardy has been training at the renowned American Top Team Camp as he prepares to make his first MMA foray. “I’m crazy excited, I’ve been training for a about a year now. I got to be at one of the best places in the world for what I’m trying to do and I got to learn from some of the best in the world,” Hardy told TMZ Sports . “And to finally be able to just go out there and have my opening day feels great.” During his tenure in the NFL, Hardy was one of the top pass rushers in football, earning second-team all pro honors in 2013 with the Carolina Panthers after finishing with 15 sacks. However, in July 2014 Hardy was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and missed the majority of the season after being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. He was sentenced to 18 months’ probation, but charges from the case were later dropped, and Hardy’s record was expunged.

GSP Has Officially Arrived To UFC Fight Week In New York - MMA Imports

Georges St. Pierre has not competed inside the octagon in nearly four years. After a successful title defense victory against Johny Hendricks in 2013, “Rush” decided to call an end to his mixed martial arts career. The fighter ended his career as the UFC welterweight champion while on a 12 fight winning streak, with only two losses on his professional record of 25-2.

Ryan Bader: By the Numbers

The new surroundings seem to suit Ryan Bader just fine. “The Ultimate Fighter 8” winner and Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran will defend his Bellator MMA light heavyweight championship against Linton Vassell in the Bellator 186 main event on Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania. It marks Bader’s first appearance since he made his promotional debut at Bellator 180 on June 24 and eked out a split decision over Phil Davis to capture the 205-pound title. The Power MMA Team cornerstone enters the cage on a three-fight winning streak that has seen him best Davis, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ilir Latifi in succession; only Davis went the distance. Long viewed as one of the sport’s premier light heavyweights, Bader sports 12 finishes among his 23 professional victories. As Bader prepares to risk his championship against the crafty Vassell, here are some of the numbers that have come to define him: .821: Career winning percentage. That includes Bader’s 15-5 mark in the UFC. 2: NCAA All-America selections at Arizona State University, where he was also a three-time Pac-10 Conference champion.

The Must-See Fights of Bellator 186

Bellator MMA in a matter of days will crown its first women’s flyweight champion, as the undefeated Ilima-Lei Macfarlane takes on Emily Ducote in the Bellator 186 co-headliner on Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania. Their five-round battle helps anchor a five-fight main draw that airs live on Spike (9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT). Macfarlane has raced out to a 6-0 start to her career. The 27-year-old Team Hurricane Awesome rep sports four finishes among those six victories, three of them by submission, and last fought at Bellator 178 in April, when she tapped Jessica Middleton with a first-round armbar. This will not be Macfarlane’s first encounter with Ducote: She was awarded a unanimous verdict against the Oklahoman at Bellator 167 on Dec. 3. Though she enters the rematch as the underdog, Ducote will do so on a two-fight winning streak. She last competed at Bellator 181, where she took a unanimous decision from the aforementioned Middleton on July 14. Operating out of an American Top Team affiliate in Oklahoma City, Ducote has compiled a 4-1 record in Bellator, the loss to Macfarlane her only setback.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Cody Garbrandt

Cody Garbrandt must travel a difficult path to remain champion. The undefeated Team Alpha Male star will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight crown against former stablemate turned archrival T.J. Dillashaw in the UFC 217 co-main event this Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. The two men coached opposite one another on Season 25 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series and were originally set to square off at UFC 213 on July 8. However, injuries have kept Garbrandt on the shelf since he dethroned Dominick Cruz some 11 months ago at UFC 207. There, he became just the fourth bantamweight champion in UFC history, joining Cruz, Dillashaw and Renan Barao . Blessed with blinding speed, ferocious punching power and an unwavering competitive spirit, Garbrandt has secured nine of his 11 career wins by knockout or technical knockout. As the man they call “No Love” prepares for his first title defense against Dillashaw, here are five things you might not know about him. 1. He has a small-town chip on his shoulder. Opinion: Getting Ahead By Getting People Mad

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * First it was boos that rained down upon Colby Covington . Then it was booze. After his unanimous decision win over hometown-favorite Demian Maia in the UFC Fight Night 119 co-headliner on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Covington proceeded to get on the microphone and call the host country “a dump” and the 10,000 Brazilians in attendance “filthy animals.” Derek Kronig was on translator duty for the event, but Daniel Cormier didn’t bother to pass him the microphone. Covington reveled in it: “We ain’t translating tonight, baby!” As he was rushed out of the arena by security, fans pelted him with cups of beer and whatever trash was within reach. Clearly, no translation was needed. Covington and his antics became the most talked-about part of the show, despite his fight with Maia being altogether forgettable. On paper, beating a top-five welterweight in his hometown is impressive, but the manner in which Covington won did not make anyone clamor to see him in a title fight.
