Pros Pick: Ortiz vs. Bonnar

There is no love lost between Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ They may be well past their primes, but Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar still have plenty to offer Bellator MMA in terms of name recognition. Ortiz will meet Bonnar in the Bellator 131 main event on Saturday at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, as the organization closes out its 11th season with a battle between Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famers. touched base with a number of professional fighters and trainers to gauge their opinions on the Bellator 131 headliner: Chris Clements: As much as I wish Tito was going to win, I just think his body is too worn out and he will be too slow to keep up with Bonnar. Bonnar wins via third-round TKO. Nam Phan: I always have to go with my friends, whether they are the underdogs or the favorites. I have to go with Bonnar. I think he’s going to outstrike him and win by points. Joe Duarte: Tough fight to call, but I’m going with the opposite of whoever Nam Phan chooses.

You Just Broke Your Child. Congratulations.

We aren't spoiled, we don't have fancy things, and honestly, we don't even really do much at all! We have went through troubles, we aren't perfect, but no one is. We are simply human. Why not treat kids like they're human? I have a mother who calls me fat and thinks low of me, but that's okay, I have a real father who has a big sense of humor, he enjoys being around me and my sister, he protects us, he helps us, he truly LOVES us like every father should! I was happy when my parents divorced, because my mother tried breaking him down from stealing to cheating on him, she even beat him with frying pans, but he never broke down. He taught his daughters to be strong, respectful, happy, and to love how we should love. He never hit us or anything, just gave us lectures, and damn good ones, too. Now we are growing up, and honestly, I see how much he hates it, but he has told us, "If you ever want to come home, if you EVER need anything, you come to me. Okay?" and we told him of course. He will always be a good father, no matter what. We will NEVER take our father for granted. I am proud to be his daughter, and he is proud to have two daughters.

The two brothers won almost every accolade available to an amateur wrestler, their success is unprecedented and has never been reproduced. Their journey all began in Palo Alto High School in the 1970's. Characterized as being nonathletic and unassuming in his formative years. Dave showed up to practice day in and day out ready to learn. Dave would grow leaps and bounds in these years, becoming a technician in finding his strengths. His brother Mark would float in and out doing a multitude of sports. Every sport he tried he would excel in, many describing him as a natural athlete taking to whatever he did. In high school Mark would even win a Northern California gymnastics title before committing fully to wrestling. Mark would end up being the violent pressure wrestler taking full advantage of his physical gifts to dominate his opponents in great contrast to the technical fox that was his brother.

Tom Watson-Rafael Natal Added to UFC 183 in Las Vegas

Ultimate Fighting Championship continues to round out UFC 183 on Jan. 31, adding a middleweight pairing of Tom Watson versus Rafael Natal . The promotion announced the bout on Thursday. The pay-per-view event will be headlined by Nick Diaz against Anderson Silva and takes place in Las Vegas. Natal recently ended a two-fight skid against Chris Camozzi at UFC Fight Night “Jacare vs. Mousasi 2,” emerging victorious via split decision. “Sapo” holds a record of 6-3-1 under the UFC banner since joining the promotion in 2010. Watson also got back to his winning ways with a unanimous decision win against Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night “Bader vs. St. Preux.” Of the Jackson-Wink MMA product’s 16 professional wins, eight have come before reaching the judges’ scorecards.

10 reasons to watch UFC 180, Bellator 131, and hey, WSOF 15

UFC 180: Two years ago, hardcore MMA fans’ most passionate cause was #RallyforMarkHunt, an unofficial campaign to give the former K-1 champ his due after turning his MMA career around with a series of highlight reel knockouts. Buoyed by Hunt’s comically sparse character, the hashtag won a fair amount of notice. It didn’t ultimately work, however. The Kiwi heavyweight got a fight with Stefan Struve, and then he went on to lose a title eliminator against Junior dos Santos. Since then, he’s served up a “Fight of the Year” draw with Antonio Silva and knocked out Roy Nelson, two accomplishments not without merit, but not necessarily the kind that get you an immediate title shot. But now, with necessity knocking on the UFC’s door, Hunt (10-8-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) gets an overdue opportunity against Werdum (18-5-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC), a fighter who probably would have eaten his lunch under the PRIDE banner. Today, however, Hunt has got some skill in counter-grappling. His ground game won’t ever be good enough to win the ADCC, but it may give him the ability to keep the interim title fight on its feet, which is the best chance he could ever have at winning a UFC title.

Brazil's Fabricio Werdum right at home for UFC's debut in Mexico

While UFC 180 marks the promotion’s long awaited debut in Mexico, Werdum, 37, is not a new face for the country’s MMA fans. Fluent in Spanish, in addition to Portuguese and English, Werdum is part of the commentary team for the UFC’s broadcasts in Mexico, and recently was a coach on “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America,” the first version of the series to focus on Spanish-speaking fighters.

Migration of Legends

Royce Gracie joined Bellator as a brand ambassador in October. | Photo: Marcelo Alonso/ From Ken Shamrock , Royce Gracie and Frank Shamrock to Tito Ortiz , Randy Couture and Quinton Jackson , there has been a noticeable trend among many of MMA’s all-time greats over a series of years. One after another, stars who main evented major Ultimate Fighting Championship events have left the sport’s top promotion and become affiliated with the rising Bellator MMA organization. Nearly half the men who comprise the UFC Hall of Fame will be participating in functions in conjunction with Bellator 131 on Saturday in San Diego. Wanderlei Silva was the latest iconic figure announced to join in the ceremonies surrounding the show before being pulled due to UFC contractual obligations. The circumstances behind the movement of different fighters have been markedly varied. Some have engaged in a public war of words with the UFC and relished the opportunity to stick it to their former company, while others have left on good terms and gone out of their way to emphasize that there is no hostility on their part.

Brotherhood unites UFC 180's unexpected trilogy

It's an opportunity the two native Mexicans once hardly dared to dream of from their humble beginnings -- Perez fought his first professional fight for free at age 16, but only after forging his own father's signature on the release -- and it's made even more curious by the fact that both Perez and Quinonez formed a bond so strong over the past three years that they now consider themselves as close as brothers.

Mark Hunt Talks of Lack of Confidence Heading into Title Fight |

Mark Hunt is a power-puncher of the highest quality, but even he admits his fight for the UFC interim heavyweight title will be an uphill battle on Saturday. Coming in with just three weeks of preparation after Mexican star Cain Velasquez backed out with an injury, Hunt is dealing with conditioning and altitude issues before this marquee fight with Fabricio Werdum .

UFC 180: Hunt vs. Werdum staff picks and predictions

Fraser Coffeen : I want to pick Hunt, really, I do. But I just can't bring myself to do it. If it goes to the mat, clearly, Hunt is a dead man. But on the feet, I don't see him having a huge advantage either. Werdum has a significant size advantage, and he's good at using that size to keep opponents at bay when striking. He's really developed his striking game significantly over the years, and I think he has the long game needed to put a real beating on Hunt. Add in the short notice, the weight cut, and the fight being at a higher altitude, and you have a bad recipe for the Super Samoan. Fabricio Werdum by KO, round 3

Welcome to the UFC, Konstantin Erokhin

Simply put, power boxing. The center point of everything Erokhin does is his ability to weave into the pocket behind short powerful hook combinations. And when I say powerful, I don't mean he hits hard, I mean that he is a destroyer of souls. He's not a purely aggressive fighter at heart, however. Rather he looks to counter strike from the outside, and pours it on once he connects clean. He also has improved steadily since his debut, showing better cardio (at least in the Rogers fight) and better timing on his strikes and even the occasional powerful low and head kick. What flashes of it there have been, have shown his defensive wrestling to be solid (he's never been taken down) and his ground game serviceable. He's not a fighter who's going to throw submissions up or even take his opponent down, but seems to have built his game well around his strength. And oh what a strength it is.

The Great Sherdog Debate: Ortiz vs. Bonnar

Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar will headliner Bellator’s season finale. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ It seems like eons ago when Tito Ortiz was one of MMA’s pound-for-pound best and the reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder. It was commonplace for “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” to lay waste to his opposition, calling out whomever he wanted whenever he wanted. When he spoke, the collective mixed martial arts world listened. Stephen Bonnar, though never as popular as Ortiz, was integral in developing the UFC into the global monstrosity we have come to know today. His timeless war with Forrest Griffin at “The Ultimate Fighter 1” Finale was credited with saving the company and ultimately led to Bonnar’s induction into the UFC Hall of Fame. Fast forward a decade. Ortiz and Bonnar are nowhere near the fighters they once were as they barrel towards their showdown in the Bellator 131 main event on Saturday at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. While their skills and timing have eroded, their desire to compete has not, and Bellator MMA has banked on their engaging in an unexpected war.
