Fabricio Werdum: By The Numbers

Fabricio Werdum wants to make the most of the time he has left. The two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist will serve as a short-notice fill-in for Mark Hunt , as he meets former M-1 Global champion Marcin Tybura in the UFC Fight Night 121 main event this Saturday at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. Werdum has alternated wins and losses in each of his past four appearances. The longtime Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt last competed at UFC 216 on Oct. 7, when he needed just 65 seconds to submit Walt Harris with a first-round armbar. Werdum has compiled a 10-4 record in two stints with the Ultimate Fighting Championship , a run that includes a heavyweight title reign and victories against the aforementioned Hunt, American Kickboxing Academy ace Cain Velasquez , former Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and “The Ultimate Fighter 10” winner Roy Nelson . As Werdum prepares for his high-stakes clash with Tybura, here are some of the numbers that have come to define him: 2: Career losses by knockout.

The Hit List: Undefeated Fighters in the UFC

Outside of a nine-month suspension for a positive PED test, not much has gone wrong for Brian Ortega during his stay in the Ultimate Fighting Championship . Part of an exclusive group as one of 31 undefeated fighters on the UFC roster with at least one victory inside the Octagon, Ortega will carry a 12-0 record into his showdown with perennial featherweight contender Cub Swanson in the UFC Fight Night 123 main event on Dec. 9 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. Opinion: The Necessary Growing Pains of a UFC-USADA Marriage

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * When the Ultimate Fighting Championship and United States Anti-Doping Agency began their partnership in July 2015, the deal was largely lauded by the mixed martial arts community. A highly respected independent agency was finally in charge of ensuring athletes fighting in the world’s premier MMA promotion were free of performance-enhancing drugs, and those that were found to be in violation would be swiftly punished. Clean competition would be the order of the day, and fair play would be the result. Fast forward two years after the drug testing protocols were put in place and the response is far different from the universal praise and optimism that originally greeted the arrangement. Just a few days ago, former middleweight champion and consensus G.O.A.T. candidate Anderson Silva was flagged for a potential USADA violation that effectively made him ineligible to main event against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 122 in Shanghai, China.

UFC Fight Night 120 Salaries: Andrei Arlovski Tops Payroll at $250,000

Andrei Arlovski halted a five-bout skid at UFC Fight Night 120 , and he earned a pretty nice paycheck in the process. The former heavyweight champion received an event-high $250,000 for his unanimous decision victory over Junior Albini ($12,000) at UFC Fight Night 120 this past Saturday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va. The Virginia Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation released a list of salaries from the card to on Wednesday. UFC Fight Night 120 was headlined by a lightweight showdown between Dustin Poirier and Anthony Pettis . Poirier pocketed $130,000 for his third-round submission victory over Pettis ($135,000) in what was a bloody and entertaining main event. Five other competitors from UFC Fight Night 120 garnered six-figure purses: Matt Brown ($150,000), Raphael Assuncao ($113,200), Clay Guida ($114,000), Marlon Moraes ($140,000) and Sage Northcutt ($120,000). Note: The disclosed purses reported by state athletic commissions do not include any performance-based or discretionary bonuses that may be awarded to a fighter by the promotion.

Bellator 187 Peaks at 1 Million Viewers for Conor McGregor In-Cage Incident

Bellator MMA took advantage of another promotion’s star to boost ratings for a tape-delayed card this past Friday. According to a Spike official, Bellator 187 peaked at 1 million viewers (DVR +3) during the first quarter hour of the broadcast. That, of course, is about the time when Conor McGregor jumped into the cage to celebrate SBG Ireland teammate Charlie Ward ’s victory over John Redmond . After being asked to leave, McGregor shoved and shouted at referee Marc Goddard before exiting the cage. More video footage captured the UFC lightweight champion slapping at a Bellator MMA employee from outside the cage. Bellator 187 took place at 3Arena in Dublin and was completed by the afternoon in the United States. The California-based organization capitalized on McGregor’s presence by promoting the incident on its Twitter account before the tape-delayed broadcast aired in the United States. McGregor and Goddard recently both issued statements on the situation. Bellator 187 saw A.J. McKee finish Brian Moore with a rear-naked choke 42 seconds into the third round of the featherweight main event.

Who wins Bellator heavyweight grand prix? A primer on the good, the old and the weird

Who he is: The current Bellator light heavyweight champion and also the youngest man in this tournament at sprightly age of 34. Partly for that reason, Bader might be the fighter with the brightest possible future here. A win in this tournament, and he’s suddenly a two-division champ, which doesn’t seem like a possibility Bellator has really prepared for. A loss, and he at least gets the atta-boy points for being willing to go up and take the risk.

John Salter: Alessio Sakara Didn’t Do Anything to Deserve Bellator Middleweight Title Shot

If you’re not familiar with the exploits of John Salter in Bellator MMA, you probably should be by now. The 32-year-old Nashville, Tenn., native has reeled off four consecutive triumphs within the California-based promotion, a streak that includes finishes of UFC veterans Kendall Grove and Dustin Jacoby as well as former Bellator 185-pound champ Brandon Halsey . All told, Salter has won nine of his 10 bouts since a 1-2 stint with the UFC in 2010. Still, Salter seems to be flying under the radar in Bellator’s middleweight division. “I think a lot of guys are getting pushed a lot more than me that haven’t earned it as much,” Salter told “I keep thinking all I can do is keep winning. Hopefully I get another impressive win, and I’ll start getting pushed a little harder by the organization. “I don’t know if it’s just politics, if it’s social media. I haven’t always been the best at my social media. I’m trying to get better at that now. Whatever it is, if it’s not that it’s out of my hands,” he continued. “All I can do is keep winning.

With Cody’s injuries and what was going on with the gym. I just felt like – especially to get someone like T.J., T.J. is one of the most sickest competitors I’ve ever seen. He will train hard, and he will do whatever it takes to win this fight and this competition. He’s so ultra competitive.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - The Diamond, Part Deux

It has been three years since Dustin Poirier fell out of our featherweight top 10 and moved up 10 pounds to arguably the most difficult and competitive weight class in the sport. Now, the Lafayette, Louisiana, native is back on our big list, this time as a lightweight. If the regulation of MMA was just a little more just, “The Diamond” might have joined the top-10 mix at 155 pounds in May, when he was piecing up former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez until their bout ended in an unceremonious no-contest after Alvarez landed a pair of illegal knees. Nonetheless, Poirier seized his moment at UFC Fight Night 120 on Nov. 11, battering and bloodying former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis for 12 minutes en route to a third-round submission finish. With the victory, Poirier is now 6-1 with one no-contest in his eight bouts since returning to 155 pounds and takes the No. 8 spot on our list, bumping the previously 10th-ranked Evan Dunham to the bubble list. The events of UFC Fight Night 120 are also responsible for another top-10 exit.

Conor McGregor apologizes for Bellator 187 fiasco, blasts ref's 'horrendous decision'

I sincerely apologize for my behavior at last weekends fight event in Dublin. While trying to support a loyal teammate and friend, I let my emotions get the best of me and acted out of line. As a multiple weight UFC champion, executive producer, role model and public figure, I must hold myself to a higher standard. The referee Marc Godard was making a horrendous decision in trying to pick an unconscious fighter up off the floor and force the fight to continue into the second round. Even against the wishes of the said fighters coach. The fight was over. After witnessing my fighter in a fight where the worst happened and the opponent passed away from his injuries on the night, I thought the worst was about to happen again, and I lost it and over reacted. I am sorry to everyone. I sincerely apologize to the Director of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, Mike Mazzulli, all the officials and staff working the event, Andy Ryan and his fighter John, two stonch ones that put up a great fight every time. That side will always have my respect, and lastly every one of my fans.

CBD for Dogs and What You Should Know

When you are investigating CBD brands, you should first start with identifying the source of the company’s hemp. There are many CBD oil scams out there, and you need to be aware of the pitfalls. Generally speaking, you should look for companies that grow or source their hemp from the United States. This isn’t to say there aren’t foreign sources of hemp, but United States Hemp is generally safest for your dogs. Once you’ve identified the origin of the hemp, look for the company’s third-party testing results. Quality CBD producers will send their products for third-party testing to verify its safety and efficacy. These results should look something like Receptra’s certificates of analysis .

Fabricio Werdum not so sure Alistair Overeem-Francis Ngannou winner deserves UFC title shot

As impressive as it was, the win over Harris didn’t do Werdum any favors the way a win over Derrick Lewis – who withdrew the day of the fight – would have. But for Werdum, his case as to why he’s deserving of the title shot with a win over Tybura doesn’t come down to just one performance.
