UFC Fight Night 121 ‘Werdum vs. Tybura’ Play-by-Play, Results & Round-by-Round Scoring

Jake Matthews vs. Bojan Velickovic Round 1 Matthews latches on to a single-leg in the first 30 seconds and runs Velickovic against the fence, working for an early takedown. Velickovic defends the shot and makes Matthews pay with some elbows to the side of the head. Matthews switches to a double but gets underhooked by Velickovic, breaking up the shot. Back to the single goes Matthews, who is still absorbing some hard elbows to the side of the head as he digs for the takedown. Halfway through the round, Matthews still has Velickovic pinned to the fence, alternating between a single- and double-leg, and occasionally an underhook. Velickovic just keeps his base wide up against the fence while punishing "The Celtic Kid" with elbows and punches. Matthews finally completes his takedown with 70 seconds on the clock, tries to mount but has to bail when Velickovic threatens with a heel hook. Velickovic catches the standing Matthews with a thudding upkick that lands heel-to-face. Velickovic gets back to his feet in the final seconds and finishes the round defending another Matthews shot. Sherdog Scores Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Velickovic Mike Fridley scores the round 10-9 Velickovic Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Velickovic Round 2 Velickovic catches the incoming Matthews with a switch knee, and when "The Celtic Kid" comes shooting in again, Velickovic is waiting with a guillotine.

Preview: UFC Fight Night 121 ‘Werdum vs. Tybura’ - Werdum vs. Tybura

From the moment Sydney resident and beloved brawler Mark Hunt was pulled from the UFC Fight Night 121 headliner against Polish prospect Marcin Tybura , it seemed like the incident would define the event. The card lost its best fight and local ticket-selling connection after the Ultimate Fighting Championship became aware of an editorial Hunt wrote for Players Voice; published on Sept. 14, it was entitled “If I Die Fighting, That’s Fine.” In his remarkably grim op-ed, Hunt admitted to early signs of chronic trauma encephalopathy, and though he has since tried to distance himself from the piece and say his words were taken out of context, it was more than enough for the promotion to yank the 43-year-old warship from the contest. Obviously, this is this is the same Hunt who is still actively suing the UFC over Brock Lesnar ’s failed UFC 200 drug test, so he also went on a vulgar social media tirade against UFC President Dana White, too. However, that would not be dubious enough for a random international card devoid of any other hype or notable flair.

Cris ‘Cyborg’ to Defend Featherweight Crown vs. Holly Holm at UFC 219 in Las Vegas

After reportedly being dead approximately one week ago, Cristiane Justino vs. Holly Holm is a done deal for UFC 219 . The promotion confirmed the women’s featherweight title bout on Thursday. It is currently unknown if Justino-Holm will serve as the headliner for UFC 219, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 30. The card includes a lightweight showdown between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Edson Barboza as well as a welterweight duel pitting Carlos Condit against Neil Magny . “Cyborg” captured the vacant featherweight title with a third round technical knockout of Tonya Evinger at UFC 2014 on July 29. The 32-year-old Brazilian has been angling for a bout with Holm since then, and both fighters have gone back and forth on social media regarding drug testing. Overall, Justino is 18-1 as a professional and has finished her first three UFC opponents. Holm, meanwhile, challenged for the inaugural 145-pound belt but lost a unanimous decision to Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208 on Feb. 11. The former bantamweight queen returned to 135 pounds in her next outing, scoring a third-round knockout victory over Bethe Correia at UFC Fight Night 111.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Will Brooks

Will Brooks has not yet found his place in the Ultimate Fighting Championship -- a surprising twist in a career that saw him capture the Bellator MMA lightweight crown and win 19 of his first 20 bouts. Brooks will seek to snap a two-fight losing streak inside the Octagon when he faces Nik Lentz in a UFC Fight Night 121 prelim on Saturday at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. The 31-year-old Chicago native enters the cage on the heels of back-to-back defeats to Alex Oliveira and Charles Oliveira , the latter resulting in a standing rear-naked choke submission at UFC 210 in April. Brooks operates out of American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida, and has put together a strong resume that includes victories over “The Ultimate Fighter 9” winner Ross Pearson , Polish leg lock aficionado Marcin Held , Elevation Fight Team ’s Drew Dober and former Sengoku champion Satoru Kitaoka . He has delivered more than half (10) of his 19 professional wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission. As Brooks prepares for his pivotal three-round battle with the cagy Lentz, here are five things you might not know about him: 1.

The longtime Fit NHB representative will square off with former Titan Fighting Championship titleholder Belal Muhammad in a three-round welterweight showcase at UFC Fight Night 121 this Saturday at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship visits Australia for the first time in 2017. Means last competed at UFC Fight Night 112 on June 25, when he was awarded a unanimous decision over Tristar Gym export Alex Garcia . Known for his liberal use of close-quarters elbow strikes and a propensity for firefights, he has compiled a 9-5 record with one no-contest across two stints in the UFC. As Means makes his final preparations before facing Muhammad in a featured matchup at 170 pounds, here are some of the numbers that have come to define him: 1: Draw on his resume. Means fought Dom O’Grady to a stalemate at a King of the Cage event on July 30, 2010 in Edmonton, Alberta. 2: Post-fight performance bonuses won in his 15 UFC appearances.

It should be noted Young took the fight on just a week’s notice, and Volkanovski was the heaviest favorite on the card. Volkanovski couldn’t put Young away, but scores of 30-27 and a pair of 30-26s told the story.
