Trainer Expects Conor McGregor’s Hands to ‘Be a Lot Better Than They Were’ Upon UFC Return

If and when Conor McGregor returns to the Octagon, fans can expect a more polished striker than the one who took the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. That’s according to SGB Ireland coach John Kavanagh , who says that the “Notorious” one benefitted immensely from the centralized work he did in preparation for his boxing match against Floyd Mayweather on Aug. 26. “When would an MMA guy have a chance to take six months just to focus on one aspect of MMA? Never is the answer, they’re always trying to work on everything,” Kavanagh told the Daily Star . “But when he does return to the Octagon, his hands are going to be a lot better than what they were. And I’m excited to see that." There have been rumors that McGregor would return to the UFC for a lightweight championship unification bout against interim titlist Tony Ferguson , but the Dublin native seems to be seeking a partnership or promoter’s role with the UFC before that can happen. While UFC President Dana White previously claimed that McGregor would return by the end of 2017, that no longer appears likely at this point.

Miesha Tate Explains Why Holly Holm Can Beat Cris Cyborg at UFC 219 |

Tate fought Holm in 2016 and she’s been around Cyborg for many years after they both served as champions in Strikeforce before coming to the UFC. While Tate obviously holds Cyborg in very high regard, she feels that Holm has an equalizer in their fight that could see the former boxing champion pull off the upset.

Report: Tae Hyun Bang sentenced to 10-month prison term for fight-fixing scheme at UFC Fight Night 79

Bang, 34, took money from the brokers before his fight against Kuntz in November 2015 at the UFC’s debut in South Korea. He reportedly took the bribe, then bet roughly half of it on Kuntz. The plan was to lose the first two rounds to his American opponent. But when UFC officials noticed a big swing in the betting lines, taking Bang from the favorite to a heavy underdog, he and Kuntz were warned about the consequences of fixing fights.

Coach: UFC Should Pay Nate Diaz $15 Million to Fight Tyron Woodley

It doesn’t appear that Nate Diaz is going to fight Tyron Woodley at UFC 219 unless the promotion is willing to make him an extremely lucrative offer. According to longtime boxing Richard Perez , the Las Vegas-based promotion hasn’t come through in that regard. Diaz hasn’t competed since losing a majority decision to Conor McGregor in their rematch at UFC 202 in August 2016. “I don’t think [they’ll fight at UFC 219]. The UFC doesn’t want to give Nathan the money,” Perez told Submission Radio . "You know, because what Woodley’s trying to do, he’s trying to get his name up there and he wants to fight the best, so he wants to fight Nathan. But UFC doesn’t want to pay Nathan, so why fight him? We can fight McGregor.” Woodley has been lobbying for a fight with Diaz at the UFC’s Dec. 30 event in Las Vegas. The reigning welterweight champion, who is coming off a successful title defense against Demian Maia at UFC 214, has sought a so-called “money fight” ever since he claimed the 170-pound title with a knockout of Robbie Lawler in 2016.

Jose Aldo: There Was Never Any Rivalry Between Conor McGregor and I

The buildup to the showdown between Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo was one of the biggest ongoing stories of 2015, a saga that began to unfold in January of that year and didn’t conclude until December. Part of that included an unprecedented 12-city, 10-day press tour to hype a proposed meeting between the two men at UFC 189 that summer. McGregor did his best to incite Aldo during the tour, and what appeared to be the foundation of a rivalry was born. However, Aldo pulled out of UFC 189 due to a rib injury, which allowed even more time for their feud to blossom, as McGregor constantly expressed doubt that the Brazilian would show up to the fight. Aldo, meanwhile, didn’t seem too upset with the barbs, claiming that the Irishman was “making me money.” When they finally did square off, McGregor ended Aldo’s featherweight championship reign in a shocking 13 seconds. Aldo broke down in tears and called for a rematch. But McGregor never came back to 145 pounds, instead moving up to lightweight to capture that title and then, on to a lucrative boxing match with Floyd Mayweather .

#UFCShanghai : @danhardymma previews @bisping vs. @KelvinGastelum ahead of the action this Saturday at 7 a.m. ET LIVE in Canada on @fightnet …

After Kelvin Gastelum pines for rematch, UFC champ Tyron Woodley responds

“When I fought Tyron, a lot of things went wrong that weekend,” Gastelum said. “I didn’t make the weight, I lost my first professional fight, and it just never really settled well in my heart. So I’m just going to go out in public and say it: I feel very, very salty about it. I feel like I can beat him and I can make the weight healthy and fight him – get a rematch with him.

Jorge Masvidal is in Shanghai, ready to fight Michael Bisping on Saturday (or in London)

Masvidal, who previously competed at lightweight before a somewhat permanent move to welterweight in 2015, said he’s willing to move up another weight class for a fight with Bisping. So far, it looks like Gastelum, who’s struggled with past weight cuts, is good to go for Saturday. That means a late-notice slot for Masvidal is looking less and less likely. However, if Bisping is game and still wants to retire after UFC Fight Night 127 , which takes place in March 2018 in “The Count’s” native England, Masvidal is willing to be his final opponent.

Daniel Cormier tweeted something peculiar about Tony Ferguson, Khabib Nurmagomedov

Purely speculating here, but before the Cris Cyborg-Holly Holm title fight got booked last week , my guess is the UFC tossed some Hail Mary’s in hopes of booking a main-event worthy fight for the Dec. 30 pay-per-view in Las Vegas. Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov was one of those desperation inquiries, even though Nurmagomedov is already booked against Edson Barboza on the card.

43-year-old Chris Lytle will return to fighting – for a bare-knuckle boxing match

At one time considered the UFC’s fight-night bonus king, Lytle (31-18-5 MMA, 10-10 UFC) has kept out of combat sports since he submitted Dan Hardy in his retirement fight at UFC on VERSUS 5 in August 2011. People clown fighters about PED’s, but I believe MMA fans of Silva’s era don’t give a damn and will still consider him GOAT. He’s pre-USADA, like Nick Diaz said “Everyone’s on steroids”. MMA fans of that era, I’m sure, quite understand accepted that reality.

Bellator MMA Announces 2018 Heavyweight Grand Prix |

Bader will make his third appearance for Bellator and first since defending his light heavyweight championship at Bellator 186. Fighting out of Tempe, Ariz., Bader began his professional career on an impressive run, steamrolling the competition en route to a 12-fight winning streak and winning one of the most competitive seasons of The Ultimate Fighter in franchise history on Spike in 2008. “Darth” continued his path of dominance by collecting 15 over some of the 105-pound division’s top talent, including victories over former world champions Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Rashad Evans, as well as two wins over Phil Davis. Currently riding a four-fight winning streak with victories in nine of his past ten bouts, the former two-time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler from Arizona State University will look to become a current two-division champion in Bellator MMA.
