Tyron Woodley Opts for Shoulder Surgery After Nate Diaz Fight Fell Apart for UFC 219 |

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is headed under the knife after deciding to have surgery on his injured shoulder. Woodley has been contemplating the surgery since his win over Demian Maia in July but when a potential fight with Nate Diaz was rumored for UFC 219 in December, he put everything on hold. Unfortunately, Woodley says that Diaz essentially turned down the fight with his financial demands and there's no longer any chance he's going to step back into the Octagon before the end of the year. "Nate Diaz is obviously scared, homie," Woodley told TMZ on Wednesday. "Someone says 'hey I want to get paid $15 million' to fight a fighter and they've never received that, not even to fight Conor McGregor, that's a nice way of saying 'no, I don't want to fight him'. That's like me saying, yeah, I'll fight f--king Stipe Miocic — just pay me $35 million. That's basically saying no. Where UFC President Dana White was once extremely optimistic that Conor McGregor would step into the Octagon again before the conclusion of 2017, he now has a different perspective on the Irish star’s future. “Conor might never fight again. The guy’s got a f—-ing $100 million…These guys make money and that’s it. Fighting’s the worst. Now it appears that event will be headlined by a women’s featherweight title tilt between Cristiane Justino and Holly Holm . White did confirm that the goal was to get McGregor in the cage before 2018. “We were working on a fight for him at the end of the year, and he’s just not ready,” White said. McGregor hasn’t fought in the Octagon since claiming the 155-pound belt with a second-round stoppage of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016.

The Hit List: Undefeated Female Fighters in the UFC

Joanna Jedrzejczyk prior to UFC 217 led the charge as the top undefeated female in the Ultimate Fighting Championship , with an impressive 14-0 record as the women’s strawweight titleholder. That all changed over the course of a little more than three minutes. Rose Namajunas in a stunning upset defeated Jedrzejczyk by first-round technical knockout on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York, handing the Polish powerhouse her first loss. The setback does nothing to diminish Jedrzejczyk’s accomplishments, but it does remove her from an exclusive group of female fighters who remain undefeated and own at least one win in the UFC. Of the women on the promotion’s roster, only seven can claim that status; and of those seven, Team Alpha Male’s Cynthia Calvillo is in line to fight next. The 30-year-old Californian will carry a 6-0 record into her showdown with former women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza at UFC 219 on Dec. 30. A current list of the unbeaten women in the UFC: Ketlen Vieira Record: 9-0 (3-0 UFC) Last Fight: UFC 215 | Sept. 9, 2017 Result: def.

Max Holloway: By The Numbers

Max Holloway finds himself on the precipice of feat that would have been thought unthinkable not long ago. He can defeat an all-time great twice in the same calendar year. Holloway will defend the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight title against Jose Aldo in the UFC 218 headliner this Saturday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. With Aldo stepping in for the injured Frankie Edgar , it serves as the sequel to their June 3 encounter in which the Holloway stopped the Brazilian on third-round punches. Holloway will enter the cage on an 11-fight winning streak that includes victories over Aldo, Anthony Pettis , Ricardo Lamas , Jeremy Stephens , Charles Oliveira and Cub Swanson . Now recognized as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport, the Gracie Technics representative has delivered 10 of his 18 professional wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission. As Holloway awaits his rematch with Aldo, here are some of the numbers that have come to define him: 1: Loss by submission.

Ex-Kickboxing Star Gokhan Saki Out of Sophomore Octagon Appearance at UFC 219

Gokhan Saki will not be making his second Octagon foray at UFC 219 . The former Glory and K-1 kickboxing world champion has withdrawn from a scheduled light heavyweight clash with Khalil Rountree for undisclosed reasons. As a result, the promotion has confirmed that Rountree will remain on the card against Michal Oleksiejczuk . UFC 219 takes place on Dec. 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and features a women’s featherweight title bout pitting reigning champion Cristiane Justino against Holly Holm . The evening’s main card is available on pay-per-view, with prelims likely airing on Fox Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Saki was successful in his Octagon debut, as he scored a knockout of Henrique da Silva 4:45 into the opening stanza at UFC Fight Night 117 on Sept. 22. “The Rebel” compiled an 83-12 mark in the kickboxing realm that included wins over the likes of Tyrone Spong , Daniel Ghita, Melvin Manhoef and Ray Sefo . Rountree is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts of Paul Craig and Daniel Jolly in his last two UFC appearances. The 22-year-old Oleksiejczuk enters his promotional debut on a nine-fight winning streak and owns a 12-2 professional mark overall.

Mizuki Inoue Forced Out of Invicta 26; Janaisa Morandin Now Meets Kinberly Novaes on Dec. 8

One of the best strawweight prospects in the world is headed back to the sideline. Japan’s Mizuki Inoue has been forced out of her Invicta 26 bout with once-beaten prospect Janaisa Morandin . Invicta Fighting Championships announced Inoue’s withdrawal from the bout on Monday via its website . Reasons behind her subtraction were not disclosed. Morandin will now face fellow Brazilian Kinberly Tanaka Novaes on the card instead. Invicta 26 is scheduled for Dec. 8 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo., headlined by a flyweight title bout between champion Jennifer Maia and undefeated challenger Aga Niedzwiedz . The event airs live on UFC Fight Pass. With the change in booking, undefeated grappling ace Mackenzie Dern ’s promotional debut against former Invicta 115-pound title challenger Kaline Medeiros has promoted to co-main event status. Inoue, 23, made her professional debut seven years ago as a 16-year-old teenager. He even bested Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Tom Brady, the quarterback of the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
