Jimy Hettes meets Diego Brandao at UFC 183 in Las Vegas
Hettes, a well-rounded 27-year-old who’s been training for more than a decade in both boxing and grappling, had a promising start in the UFC after submitting Alex Caceres and earning a decision win over Nam Phan in his first two bouts with the promotion. However, he’s just 1-2 since then, and in his most recent fight, he suffered a TKO loss to Dennis Bermudez in March.

However, anyone already serving prison time for a felony conviction on a reclassified crime may be able to petition for a new sentence -- even those incarcerated under the state's “three strikes” law. Tallahassee Voters Said No To Big Money, Corruption In City Politics
The Democrats got mauled today, deservedly so. To prohibit that from happening to the GOP in 2016, it must learn the lesson from the last time Republicans held the Senate majority. This time they must not retreat, and it's our responsibility to hold them accountable. Will they fight for reform that aligns with the limited government planks of the Republican platform, or will they return to the big government cronyism and status quo favored by the permanent political class? Will they drain the swamp or decide the D.C. cesspool is really just a jacuzzi they can't wait to jump on into and shake us off?
6 Unexpected Uses for Hemp and Marijuana
Everyone is aware of edibles, and the idea of ‘magic brownies.’ Now the medical and recreational industries are pushing edibles further every day, with just about everything you can imagine now available in ‘medicated’ form. But for those who don’t want to get high, there are also a ton of hemp-based nutritional options out there, often more healthy than the alternatives.

Greg Abbott Wins Texas Governor Race
Iowa ended up with Iowa state Sen. Joni Ernst as their standardbearer in that Senate race, and while she's pushed the envelope in the wrong direction at times, she's more or less proved to be a manageable candidate. (Though it arguably helped Ernst that the media, by and large, chose to give her multiple passes.) Over in Colorado, Rove got the sort of candidate he prefers in U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner -- again, a manageable alternative to Ken Buck . Throughout the primary season, Republicans avoided elevating the types of candidates -- your Todd Akins, Sharron Angles, and Richard Mourdocks -- that had previously sunk ambitions.

Nam Phan’s Strategy for Bellator Debut: ‘Start Throwing and Have a Good Time’
Phan will make his Bellator MMA debut on Nov. 15. | Photo: Dave
As recently as March of this year, Nam Phan was
unsure of what was going to happen with his mixed martial arts
The 31-year-old bantamweight had just been released from his
contract with the
Ultimate Fighting Championship and was wondering if he would
get another shot on the big stage. Though he was a popular fighter
within the Las Vegas-based organization, capturing two “Fight of
the Night” awards, three consecutive losses spelled the end for his
time inside the Octagon.
According to Phan, personal distractions led to a lack of focus and
turned him into a different fighter. But, after eradicating the
toxicity in his life, Phan resumed training and hasn’t looked
“I’ve cut some people out of my life that were distracting me, so
everything’s good,” an elated Phan told Sherdog.com in a recent
interview. “I feel better than ever. So far, so good. I have
learned how to cut weight better and my training has gotten better
than it’s ever been.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon Accidentally Tweets Woman's Behind - US News
The governor of the Show Me State showed a little too much Tuesday when staffers put up a photo of Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon at the polls. Beside Nixon: a woman whose pants were hanging too low. Glory 18 fight preview and prediction: Davit Kiria vs. Robin van Roosmalen
And that is the problem facing Davit Kiria here. Styles make fights, and while these two men are very equal in terms of their accomplishments, Roosmalen's style gives Kiria problems. If they fight similarly to how they both tend to fight, it will be a Roosmalen win. What Kiria needs is to make some adjustments. Specifically, he needs to get off first and not allow himself to get drawn into a back and forth war of attrition with Roosmalen. If he can pick up the pace, get his shots in first, and counter Roosmalen, he can win this. But it will take a change of pace for Kiria, and it's not one I am fully confident he can pull off. Instead, look for Roosmalen to keep up the pressure, use those great hooks to the slightly exposed body of Kiria (Kiria has a great high guard with his hands, but that can leave the body vulnerable) and outwork the champion. The added dimension of 5 rounds could provide Kiria with a chance, as he clearly showed against Ristie, but Roosmalen will likely have learned from that fight, and will pace himself well enough to survive any late push.

Scifighting Exclusive Interview with Glory CEO Jon Franklin -...
Franklin: I think the whole media world is struggling with that. A lot of media companies, not just combat sports, are struggling with how much content they can sell, what they have to give away for free and what platforms they should put it on. I made a strategic decision at Glory to move over all the content that we own in bits and pieces to YouTube so people can watch it for free. We can monetize it in a small way through YouTube advertising programs rather than store it and have it sit around where nobody sees it. I looked at it and said, “wow, we have all this great content that we want to bring to our fans. Let’s get it out there so people can enjoy it and maybe we’ll make a little bit of money off the YouTube advertising.”

Series of Fighting. | Photo: Keith Mills/Sherdog.com
World Series of Fighting welterweight champion Steve Carl is
officially a free agent.
Sherdog.com confirmed with a WSOF official on Wednesday that the
Las Vegas-based promotion released Carl from his contract.
MMAJunkie.com first reported the story.
Carl recently took to Twitter
to air his frustrations with an infrequent fight schedule that saw
him compete just three times over the past two years. The Belle
Plaine, Iowa, native posted a 3-1 mark with the promotion overall,
capturing 170-pound gold with a fourth-round submission triumph
Burkman at WSOF 6.
Carl dropped the title in his next outing, tapping to a Rousimar
Palhares heel hook at WSOF 9 this past March. The 29-year-old
is 21-4 overall as a professional, including a 2-2 stint with
Bellator MMA from 2010 to 2011.
“I secured my release from WSOF today!” Carl wrote Wednesday on
Twitter. “Sucks it had to come to this, but time to take a step
forward and leave it behind me.

Gilbert Smith Believes RFA 20 Victory Would Put UFC Return in His Sights | MMAWeekly.com
“I’ve gone 2-1 this year, with my only loss coming to Brian Foster (in Titan FC) who is a former UFC fighter,” said Smith. “We went to a decision, which is the only one he’s been to in 30 fights, so that’s a pretty decent accolade I have. All things considered, it’s been a pretty good year for me.

Report: UFC releases Japanese fighters Takenori Sato and Kazuki Tokudomi
There's no real surprises in either of these cuts. Takenori is pretty clearly not competitive at an international level and while Kazuki may still have some miles on the tread, he has major fundamental holes in his game that need fixing. If he can get a couple wins on the regional circuit, I could see him getting another callup, the next time the UFC goes to Japan, but it's hard to see him winning consistently against good competition with his present skills.
Artificial Sweeteners, Organic Food & GMO
FD: Let's move over to one of the DOUBLE WHAMMY offenders lol: erythritol aka brand name Truvia. It's a sweetener, not artificial but most of it comes from fermented GMO corn. There is however organic erythritol... Thoughts? Personally I love the crunchiness of it. (Btw I stopped using sweeteners in coffee a few weeks ago. People asked me why. Only reason is I like to eliminate stuff I feel I'm addicted to and boy have I used a lot of stevia in my years! LOL it was time for a break. Imagine how many emails I received about the reason for a stop. To me that info is like 'why did you decide to use black socks instead of grey?".....
UFC Fight Night on FS1: 'Shogun' vs. Saint Preux Crystal Ball predictions
But that doesn't mean he can't still add to his accomplishments. This fight against Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1 on Saturday in Uberlandia, Brazil does not seem like a favorable style matchup. But "Shogun" is still hanging out here in the light heavyweight contender top 10. If he can knock Saint Preux out, we'll be talking about a big, important fight for the former champion next.
Welcome to the UFC, Seo Hee Ham
True to her nickname, Hamderlei is a pretty brutal power striker at range. She has great timing in her hands and feet, and throws with the kind of confidence and authority still rare to much of the women's game. She's also adept at passing to dominant grappling positions, and has a really solid, controlling grappling game. She doesn't have the best takedown defense in the world, but has shown herself to be a very adept scrambler and rarely stays on her back for long.

New England Fights Promoter Matt Peterson Re-Elected to Maine House of Representatives
Matt Peterson, the man primarily
responsible for the legalization of mixed martial arts in
Maine, was re-elected to the state’s House of Representatives on
According to the Bangor Daily News ,
Peterson garnered 68.76 percent of the vote to defeat Terrence L.
Magee and win his seat at Maine House District 115. Peterson, who
became a quadriplegic after falling out of a five-story window
during college, was first elected to Maine’s 151-member House of
Representatives in 2008.
Currently the promoter for New
England Fights , Peterson’s greatest contribution to the Maine
MMA scene occurred the year he was elected. Peterson created and
sponsored a bill legalizing MMA in Maine, and it passed during the
first legislative session.
“He was the right guy to push it and got it right to the
legislature,” Marc Ratner, UFC vice president of regulatory
affairs, told Sherdog.com in 2012. “We’re still fighting to even
get a vote in the New York legislature, so Maine was very, very
well done by Matt in pushing it. We had absolutely no problems, and
it just sailed through.
