UFC 217 results: Ricardo Ramos lands sickening spinning back elbow to KO Aiemann Zahabi

Ramos tried some uppercuts early in the second, and a high left kick was just off the mark. A minute in, he went back to a kick to the lead leg, then just missed a spinning back elbow. Zahabi landed a right, and 30 seconds later he landed a solid right, and another right after it. A left jab was on the mark, and midway through he caught a Ramos kick and briefly took him to the canvas. Zahabi’s right uppercut found a home again right after. With a minute left, Zahabi again landed an uppercut. And with 30 seconds left, a jab popped Ramos’ head back. Another one landed right before the bell.

New UFC champion Rose Namajunas is "sick of all the hate", vows to set a good example |

“People aren’t really being true to themselves or honest. Maybe that’s just what they feel they need to do to entertain, but I’m kind of sick of it. I’m sick of all the hate and anger. I feel like we have a duty as fighters to try and be a better example, you know. Martial arts is about honor and respect. It takes a lot of courage to get in that cage no matter who you are. I just want to try and set an example in that way.”

UFC 217: By the Numbers

Even after a lengthy hiatus, Georges St. Pierre didn’t miss a beat. Four years after he vacated the welterweight throne, Georges St. Pierre claimed 185-pound gold with a third-round submission of Michael Bisping in the UFC 217 headliner at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night. Bloodied by Bisping elbows, St. Pierre dropped “The Count” with a left hand, swarmed with ferocious ground-and-pound and choked Bisping unconscious at the 4:23 mark of the period. In the co-main event, T.J. Dillashaw put an emphatic stamp on the first chapter of his rivalry with former Team Alpha Male training partner Cody Garbrandt , winning via technical knockout in the second round of their bantamweight title bout. Dillashaw is now a two-time 135-pound titlist. Elsewhere, Rose Namajunas authored one of the year’s biggest upsets when she stopped reigning strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk via technical knockout 3:03 into the opening stanza. At 25 years old with just 10 fights under her belt, Namajunas now owns UFC gold.

Georges St. Pierre Chokes Michael Bisping Unconscious, Takes Middleweight Title at UFC 217

It was as if he never left. Georges St. Pierre choked Michael Bisping unconscious in the third round of their UFC 217 headliner, as he captured the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight crown at Madison Square Garden in New York. Bisping (30-8, 20-8 UFC) went limp in the clutches of a rear-naked choke 4:23 into Round 3, his days atop the 185-pound weight class at an end. In his first appearance since Nov. 16, 2013, St. Pierre (26-2, 20-2 UFC) surpassed all reasonable expectations. He worked over Bisping for the better part of two rounds with a punishing jab while integrating spinning kicks and takedowns. However, the champion started to turn the tide in the closing minutes of Round 2 and figured to carry the momentum forward with his superior cardio. St. Pierre executed a takedown inside the first 30 seconds of the third round, only to encounter a series of short elbows from the grounded Englishman. When they returned to their feet, St. Pierre was bleeding from cuts to the side of his head and the bridge of his nose.

Ryan Bader Bashes Linton Vassell to Retain Light Heavyweight Title in Bellator 186 Headliner

Linton Vassell was no match for Ryan Bader . Bader disposed of the Englishman with second-round punches to retain the Bellator MMA light heavyweight championship in the Bellator 186 headliner on Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania. Vassell (18-6, 7-3 Bellator) succumbed to unanswered blows 3:58 into Round 2. The systematic champion could not have been more dominant. Bader (24-5, 2-0 Bellator) managed to stomach a handful of leg kicks, executed a beautiful lateral drop and scored with another takedown in the first round, consolidating his efforts with positional control and ground-and-pound. Perhaps sensing the growing frustration in a wilting Vassell, he delivered two more takedowns in Round 2, where he climbed to an advantageous position, clamped down on the challenger’s wrist and pummeled him with unabated left hands until referee Keith Peterson had seen enough. Bader, 34, has won four fights in a row. UFC Announces Schedule For the First Quarter in 2018 |

There’s also several international dates on the scheduled for the first quarter of 2018 including the UFC Fight Night event on Feb. 3 in Brazil. That’s noteworthy because that card takes place during Super Bowl weekend, which is traditionally a big UFC card.

Matches to Make After UFC 217

Even the cynic will have to admit it was worth the wait. In his first appearance under the Ultimate Fighting Championship flag in three years, 11 months and 19 days, Georges St. Pierre defied the odds and captured the middleweight title, as he choked Michael Bisping unconscious in the third round of their UFC 217 main event on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The dramatic conclusion came 4:23 into Round 3, making St. Pierre the fourth fighter -- Randy Couture , B.J. Penn and Conor McGregor are the others -- to have won UFC championships in more than one weight class. St. Pierre relied on his patented jab, intermittent spinning attacks and tactical takedowns through two rounds. However, not all went according to plan. Bisping sliced and diced him with elbows from the bottom in Round 2, opening cuts on the side of his head and the bridge of his nose. St. Pierre shrugged off the damage in the third, leveled “The Count” with a short left hook and overwhelmed him with elbows from the top. He then advanced to the back, secured the choke and waited for Bisping to lose consciousness.

UFC 217 Bonuses: All Three New Champs Pocket $50K Awards; OSP, Ramos Get $25K

Rose Namajunas pulled off one of the year’s biggest upsets against a longstanding, dominant champion, and now “Thug” is $50,000 richer for her efforts. Namajunas claimed a “Performance of the Night” bonus for a first-round technical knockout of reigning strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a featured bout at UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The end came 3:03 into the frame, as Namajunas connected with a left hook to the jaw before polishing off her downed opponent with punches on the mat. Meanwhile, Georges St. Pierre received “Performance of the Night” honors and $50,000 for his middleweight championship victory over Michael Bisping in the UFC 217 headliner. After a tense opening two rounds, St. Pierre floored Bisping with a counter left in the third before unloading with powerful ground-and-pound on the canvas. When that didn’t finish Bisping, “Rush” transitioned to a rear-naked choke and rendered the Englishman unconscious at the 4:23 mark. Elsewhere, T.J. Dillashaw also got a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for a win over Cody Garbrandt in evening’s co-main event.

Dillashaw Says Asterisk Should Be Attached to Demetrious Johnson’s Title Defense Record

T.J. Dillashaw hasn’t forgotten about Demetrious Johnson denying him a marquee fight this past summer. When Cody Garbrandt pulled out of a proposed UFC 213 clash against Dillashaw due to a back injury, the promotion moved quickly to book Dillashaw in a 125-pound title bout against Demetrious Johnson . There was one big problem: “Mighty Mouse” didn’t want the fight, instead targeting Ray Borg for his record-breaking 13th consecutive championship defense. At the time, Johnson’s biggest issue was that Dillashaw didn’t have a flyweight victory to his credit. Dillashaw still doesn’t have a flyweight triumph, but his second-round stoppage of Garbrandt at UFC 217 to claim bantamweight gold for a second time is probably bigger. And if Garbrandt had been talking about a fight with Johnson with a win, Dillashaw wants the same opportunity. After all, it’s one he could have had a few months prior. “That’s a fight I want. When Cody pulled out in July, I told Dana I wanted to fight for the belt,” Dillashaw said on Fox Sports 1.

Trading Shots: Did title turnover at UFC 217 teach us a lesson about the price of arrogance?

Fowlkes: I’m not going to say it was a moral failing that caused the downfall of these three champions, but especially in Jedrzejczyk’s case, it did seem like a disdain for her opponent’s skills (and maybe an overabundance of faith in her own) played a role in her loss. Arrogance can be a good selling point in combat sports. But if it’s also a character trait that you bring into the fight, it can get you knocked out.

Dana White Reveals Georges St-Pierre's Next Opponent Following Win at UFC 217 |

“It’s gonna be [Robert] Whittaker,” UFC president Dana White confirmed when pressed for information on St-Pierre’s next opponent at the post fight-press conference. “He’s staying at 185 pounds.”

With UFC 217 win, did Georges St-Pierre just settle an old argument about MMA greats?

If you’re talking about accomplishments and titles, all the stuff that fills out an MMA resume, it just got a lot harder to argue against St-Pierre. He was the rare champion to “step away” on top, opting to take his 12-fight winning streak and go home rather than staying until the forces of time and natural decay dragged him out on his back.

UFC 217 Post-Mortem: Of Kings, Queens, Rivalries and Boogeywomen

UFC 217 on Saturday reminded us all why we love mixed martial arts. It was a night filled to brim with violent finishes and titles changing hands, a night of underdog stories, a night that saw the culmination of one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s realest grudge matches and a night that witnessed the return of one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of all-time. It will go down as one of the most memorable pay-per-view events in recent memory and gets the juices flowing for what’s to come. A King Returns to the Throne The main event was one for the ages. It marked the return of Georges St. Pierre from a four-year hiatus that most fans thought was permanent. St. Pierre found himself locked in the Octagon with middleweight champion Michael Bisping . It took some time for the masses to warm to the idea of Bisping-St. Pierre, especially since GSP had spent his entire career at 170 pounds. St. Pierre came through with a classic performance and showed he had not skipped many beats -- if any - during his layoff. Madison Square Garden erupted with roars in the middle of the third round, where the former welterweight champion sent Bisping crashing to the canvas with a left hook.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - 217 Reasons for Three New No. 1's

The Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s second trip to Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 4 exceeded expectations, producing the greatest and certainly the most historic MMA event so far in 2017. It produced a trio of new UFC champions, with all three title changes coming in riveting fashion and resulting in a triumvirate of new No. 1s in the official rankings. However, one of our new divisional rulers was not in action at MSG, and his initials are not GSP. Undoubtedly, Georges St. Pierre returning to the Octagon and taking the UFC middleweight title from Michael Bisping was thrilling and iconic, strengthening the Canadian’s case to be considered the greatest fighter to ever put on four-ounce gloves. At the same time, it was St. Pierre’s first middleweight win -- ever. Robert Whittaker ? He is 7-0 over the last three years, even if he is the UFC’s “interim” middleweight champion. With wins over the likes of Yoel Romero , Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Derek Brunson , it is a no-brainer that “The Reaper” takes our No.

WALK OFF! James Vick finishes Joseph Duffy at the buzzer with a vicious uppercut and flurry of punches for the win! — FOX Sports: UFC (@UFCONFOX) November 5, 2017 It appears that James Vick has grown tired of flying under the radar in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s lightweight division. “The Ultimate Fighter 15” semifinalist cut down Cage Warriors Fighting Championship vet Joseph Duffy with a right uppercut and follow-up punches in the featured UFC 217 prelim on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. Duffy (16-3, 4-2 UFC) succumbed to blows 4:59 into Round 1, bringing his two-fight winning streak to a halt. A competitive first round gave way to the second, where Vick (12-1, 8-1 UFC) seized control with straight punches in combination and repeated leg kicks. Late in the frame, the Lloyd Irvin protégé connected with a brutal uppercut that sent the Irishman crashing to the canvas. A barrage of punches and hammerfists followed, resulting in the stoppage.
