Glory 25: Van Roosmalen Edges Sitsongpeenong via Controversial Decision

Glory 25: Milan was an event loaded with plenty of kickboxing action, continuing in the promotion’s tradition of excellence. There were knockouts, blood, back-and-forth battles and, unfortunately, questionable officiating. The main event between defending lightweight champion Robin van Roosmalen and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong was an entertaining affair with plenty of exchanges, but the Thai fighter was a step ahead of the champ from the start. His in-and-out movement not only gave the Dutch fighter fits early, it created plentiful openings for counters. Though van Roosmalen was never badly hurt, he was beaten to the punch repeatedly and it seemed as though the title would switch hands at the fight’s conclusion. However, all three ringside judges scored in favor of van Roosmalen 48-47, allowing him to retain his title. Sitsongpeenong, who would have become the first Thai fighter to ever capture a Glory world title, felt as though he had done enough to win, as did the vast majority of the fans inside the Palalper in Monza, Italy. Murthel Groenhart toppled Karim Ghajji in the finals of the Glory 25 welterweight tournament via decision, winning with tallies of 29-27 (twice) and 30-27.

‘King Mo’ to Represent Bellator in Light Heavyweight Grand Prix at Rizin’s Dec. 29 Event

”King Mo” will fight in another 205-pound tournament this December. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Muhammed Lawal still isn’t done with the tournament format. Just months removed from competing in a 205-pound bracket at “Bellator: Dynamite” this past September, Lawal will take part in a light heavyweight grand prix that will begin at Rizin Fighting Federation’s Dec. 29 event at the Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan. Details on the other fighters participating on the eight-man tournament will be announced at a later date, according to a release. “When I go back to Japan, they’ll be calling me ‘King Mozilla’ when I’m done with that tournament,” Lawal said during an announcement on the Bellator 145 broadcast. Lawal last appeared at Bellator 142, where he garnered a unanimous decision in the opening round of the promotion’s one-night, light heavyweight tournament. However, Lawal was unable to advance to the final round after suffering an injury. Rizin Fighting Federation also announced that Brazilian jiu-jitsu standout Gabi Garcia will lock horns with Lei’d Tapa, a pro wrestler known as “Queen of Rings” as part of its New Year’s Eve card .

I just wanted to enjoy myself with my siblings. I was spotted in a fight during carnival, and a friend of mine from a local martial arts academy invited me to train. At first, I didn’t know what muay Thai or MMA even were. I decided to show up and give training a shot. I was 21 years old. After three months of training, I had my first muay Thai bout. Patrick Cummins: Light heavyweight needs new blood and I'm happy to provide it

"Originally I looked at this matchup and thought this was a possibility but I didn't think they were going to give me this opportunity just yet. So I was excited when it happened because our styles clash in a different way and it comes out a lot better for me. He's a dangerous guy, he hits hard, but at the same time I feel like I have a speed advantage, I have a little bit more of an athletic background and when I want to take it to the mat, that's what I'm going to do. I think he's going to have a hard time stopping that," Cummins said.

Bernie Sanders Introduces Senate Bill To Lift The Federal Ban On Marijuana

Senator Bernie Sanders today introduced the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act, a bill to lift the federal ban on marijuana. The bill is companion legislation to H.R. 1013, the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, a bipartisan bill that Polis introduced in February along with Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), and nine other original cosponsors. Polis has led the same measure in each of the last two sessions of Congress. Just as alcohol prohibition failed in the 1920s, it’s clear marijuana prohibition is failing today,” Polis said. “For decades, the federal ban on marijuana has wasted tax dollars, impeded our criminal justice system, lined the pockets of drug cartels, and trampled on states’ ability to set their own public health laws. It makes no sense for marijuana to be grouped together with drugs like heroin and LSD, and we must continue working to end this misguided policy. Today’s introduction of the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act in the Senate is a huge step forward in the movement to enact the commonsense drug laws needed to grow our economy and restore fairness to our justice system.

Alan Belcher has retired from MMA at 31 years old. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Some three years ago, Alan Belcher thwarted feared leg-lock specialist Rousimar Palhares in dominant fashion to earn his fourth straight Octagon triumph at UFC on Fox 3. Dan Henderson: No Introduction Necessary

Dan Henderson isn’t one for labels. The former Olympian turned mixed martial artist turned multi-divisional knockout artist shrugs off words like “legend” and “pioneer,” choosing rather to focus on things in the here and now. Granted, the California-based middleweight can’t fully escape acknowledging how much of an impact he’s had on the sport he loves and the generations of hungry fighters that have come up in his wake, but even in doing so he cops to influence with a tremendous amount of modesty in tow. Henderson simply loves to what he does and would rather leave all the chit chat about who is this and that to other folks. And that’s far from the attitude an athlete with his resume and credentials could boast, but the 45-year-old former two-division PRIDE champion doesn’t concern himself with what has come and gone. Henderson knows he’s one of the last men standing from a time long since passed, and he’s grateful his body has held up to allow him to sling leather at the highest level in the sport for as long as he has.

UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs Henderson 3 live results, play by play, discussion

R1: An inside low kick lands for Henderson. And another. An extremely tentative start to the round as the aforementioned kicks are the only strikes thrown in the first two minutes. But it's worth the wait: Belfort erupts into violence personified, uncoiling an ungodly left high kick that thunders directly into Henderson's jaw. Henderson staggers back into the fence and goes down amid a hail of leather from Belfort, who tidies things up with a salvo of lefts from the top.

UFC Fight Night 77 play-by-play and live results

Round 3 – Cabral looks a little energized to start the third, but Case is by far the fresher fighter. He continues his kickboxing assault. Cabral gets inside and is able to get the fight to the floor. He immediately looks to attack the neck, but Case defends and scampers back to his feet. Still, Cabral is very tight to the body and won’t give any room. He’s able to again bring the fight to the floor, and he’s on his opponent’s back. Case seems comfortable, but he’s losing valuable time in bad positions. Cabral wants the choke as he sits on the back. He gets the right arm on the chin. Case signals he’s OK, but he’s got to get free. Cabral has the figure-four around the body. Case trying to get free. He finally turns inside. Little more than a minute. Case has some work to do. Cabral holding tight. Case postures up and punches. He needs to get very busy. Cabral tries to attack the leg. It’s not there. Case shifts around to his back and continues to punch. Cabral is bleeding as he stands. His left eye is busted up. Case still wants to strike.

When Henderson's attack prompted the referee to stop the contest, the Brazilian crowd did not react well. "We were fighting just across the way from where I'm fighting Vitor Saturday. Not only is there the final bout in the trilogy between Vitor Belfort vs. Dan Henderson, but there’s the co-main between Glover Teixeira and Patrick Cummins. And that’s just the top of the 13-fight card. “There’s a couple of good matchups for sure,” said headliner Dan Henderson, a three-time Fight of the Night winner in the UFC. “There’s probably more than that – I’m just not familiar with everyone on the card, but I know they are pretty tough guys. I’m looking forward to Cummins/Glover as well, and there are a couple of other fights that are interesting. But overall I’ll be watching them backstage and then going out and doing my thing, too.” Going by prefight chatter online and on site in Brazil, there’s plenty of buzz around the duel between two under-30 warriors: the undefeated Thomas Almeida and 12-2 Anthony Birchak.
