PBC on NBCSN: Kevin Bizier Pulls Off Upset of Frederick Lawson

Kevin Bizier is an anachronism. It wouldn’t be hard to envision the 31-year-old Canadian welterweight on a black-and-white 1950’s Zenith. Backing his opponent up, applying constant pressure behind a sickle-like left hook fired from what seems like myriad angles, Bizier possesses an old-school style that is fundamentally sound and he’s surprisingly faster than he looks. Bizier wasn’t supposed to beat Frederick Lawson Saturday night on the Premier Boxing Champions show on NBCSN, from the Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort, in Miami, Florida. But that’s exactly what he did, bulling forward to pull off a mild upset with a 10-round TKO to win a IBF welterweight title eliminator over the previously unbeaten Lawson (24-1, 20 KOs). Making his United States debut, Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) now has a chance to face IBF welterweight world champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs). Bizier made it possible by knocking down Lawson in the fifth, catching the 26-year old with a blunt, and compact right to the chin. But throughout the fight, it was his left hook that was wearing down Lawson, touching him in the face and most effectively to the body.

Preview: UFC Fight Night ‘Belfort vs. Henderson 3’ - The Prelims

Gleison Tibau’s has been one of the UFC’s most prolific lightweights. | Photo: G. Venga/Sherdog.com Lightweights Gleison Tibau (33-11) vs Abel Trujillo (12-6): It will be a sad day when Tibau finally leaves the UFC. The quintessential gatekeeper -- and somehow only 32 years old -- Tibau is well-known for grinding his opponent against the cage for two rounds before tiring and giving away the third round. It is a pattern he has repeated many times. He is rarely credited, however, for his constant willingness to change and improve. In recent years, Tibau has added footwork and a sharp left hand to his arsenal, making him a well-rounded opponent, if not a particularly dangerous one. Trujillo, on the other hand, is perpetually dangerous but far more limited. The Blackzilians brawler is extremely powerful with both hands in the pocket, and he has a nasty instinct for clinch fighting. Like a lightweight Leonard Garcia , however, whatever technical improvements Trujillo makes between fights seem to melt away the moment he gets hit, at which point he tosses all discipline aside and slugs it out until his gas tank runs dry.

UFC Fight Night 77 results: Johnny Case runs streak to 12, outpoints Yan Cabral

Each man staked out his areas of expertise right away in this fight, with Case looking to keep it standing and Cabral seeking to press his advantage on the mat. Antoine Douglas Makes Easy Work of Sherrington On ShoBox

Antoine Douglas seals the deal with a 4th round TKO to stay undefeated in his fifth #ShoBox appearance. #Boxing https://t.co/izK2dbxga4 — SHOWTIME SPORTS (@SHOsports) November 7, 2015 It was graduation time for Antoine Douglas, and the 23-year-old middleweight did so emphatically. Douglas took apart a shopworn fighter dug up from Australia who hadn’t fought in close to year, stopping hapless Les Sherrington in the outside arena at the D Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Showtime’s ShoBox show Friday night. Douglas (19-0-1, 13 KOs) remained undefeated in what was scheduled 10-round middleweight affair that appeared more like an exhibition. It marked Douglas’ fifth—and last time—on ShoBox. The 33-year-old Sherrington (35-8, 19 KOs) was knocked down six times, before referee Kenny Bayless stepped in and thankfully waved it over at 1:02 of the fourth. Does it help Douglas? That’s up for debate. What wasn’t was Douglas’ dominance, landing 37 of 64 power shots (58-percent), 24 of 45 jabs (53-percent) and 61 of 109 total punches (56-percent). Sherrington, who had not fought since Dec.

Then you go on leave, and realize that Ayn Rand has no idea what the fuck she’s talking about. You realize that Fox News and Limbaugh and John McCain don’t respect you or your buddies. They don’t give a fuck if you get a parade or a box when you get home, you’re nothing to them but a prop. Then you get out, and you hate the news. You hate the apathy, and you hate the murder being carried out in your name. You grew up wanting so bad to be Luke Skywalker, but you realize that you were basically a Stormtrooper, a faceless, nameless rifleman, carrying a spear for empire, and you start to accept the startlingly obvious truth that these are people like you.

Boxing: Bradley Pounds Rios Into Retirement, Lomachenko Stops Koasicha

WATCH: A slo-mo replay of both Round 9 knockdowns #BradleyRios https://t.co/n1xgSBJ1LK — HBOboxing (@HBOboxing) November 8, 2015 The fight was supposed to be an all-out brawl, possibly a candidate for Fight of the Year. But the HBO-televised main event in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday night was anything but. Timothy Bradley made sure of that. After lashing out at the critics following Friday’s weigh-ins where Brandon Rios missed weight by a few ounces, the Oxnard fighter promised fireworks. But as the fight against “Desert Storm” wore on, it was apparent Rios couldn’t deliver. Rios allegedly weighed close to 200 pounds before his training camp, following nearly eight months of inactivity. After watching “Bam Bam” struggle to catch up with Bradley’s blistering hand speed, those rumors appear accurate. Bradley, a former junior welterweight world champion, was sensational from the start and easily defended his WBO welterweight crown. He brawled with the larger man on the inside early and then outboxed Rios.

Where do you stand on the stoppage in the fight between Gleison Tibau and Abel Trujillo? What about Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson? Arguments are made on both sides of the main event. Also piquing users’ interest was the brutal knockout dealt by Thomas Almeida to Anthony Birchak. Birchak was KO’d for the first time in his career by the rising Brazilian bantamweight. But it appears there are a few men willing to step up and challenge “Thominhas” in his next outing. There were also questions about both main event fighters. What should “Hendo” do now? What’s next for Belfort? Head over to the forums and let your voice be heard. The Stoppage What Pisses Me Off ... Defending Dan? The GIF Vitor or Luke? Who Got Next?

Trading Shots: Is there a redemption tale somewhere in this chapter of Belfort's career?

The real debate for me is whether “forgive and forget” even has a place in sports. People make mistakes and it’s unfair to brand them with a scarlet letter for the rest of their lives. Jon Jones has made a lot of personal mistakes. For the sake of argument, let’s say that he learned his lesson and becomes a model citizen. Say he teaches kids the errors of his ways, and does so even when it’s not court-mandated. I would say the majority of people would move on and chalk his missteps up to youthful indiscretion – too much fame and fortune, too fast. I don’t see how Belfort makes a similar case.

After Redemptive KO Triumph, Vitor Belfort Sets Sights on ‘Disrespectful’ Luke Rockhold

Vitor Belfort racked up another first-round knockout. | Photo: Gleidson Venga/Sherdog.com Vitor Belfort effortlessly dodged queries about the difference between his TRT-infused knockout of Dan Henderson in 2013 and his presumably more natural effort against the same opponent at UFC Fight Night in Sao Paulo on Saturday. “I’m still doing TRT. You know the meaning? True Revival Touch,” Belfort quipped following his second first-round knockout of Henderson. “That’s what I’m on right now. I want to thank God for giving me the strength and ability to be who I am. I am who I am.” However, when asked about who he would like to fight next, “The Phenom” became decidedly less nebulous . “[ Luke Rockhold ] is talking a lot. He’s disrespectful,” Belfort said. “He’s talented; he’s a very good kid, but I’ve got my eye on him.” Of course, Belfort already owns an emphatic triumph over Rockhold, as he stopped the American Kickboxing Academy product with a spinning heel kick and follow-up punches at UFC on Fox 8 in May 2013.

If you're waiting for Dan Henderson to see the writing on the wall, get comfortable

While the rest of us do the math on his age and his years in the sport and arrive at the conclusion that every fight should be a referendum on his future, Henderson doesn’t seem to see it that way. When he gets head-kicked by Belfort and wakes up with a referee looking into his eyes, he doesn’t see it as proof that he’s stayed too long in a young man’s game. Instead, he sees it as nothing more than the consequences of screwing up. He made a mistake is all. And who isn’t entitled to make a mistake every now and then?
