Matches to Make After Bellator 190, Invicta 26
Rafael
Carvalho does not get paid by the hour.
One of the sport’s most underappreciated competitors and unheralded
champions, Carvalho retained the Bellator
MMA middleweight title with an eye-popping first-round finish
on
American Top Team ’s Alessio
Sakara in the
Bellator 190 main event on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Forum
in Florence, Italy. Sakara bit the dust on the receiving end of a
savage elbow strike 44 seconds into Round 1, his three-fight
winning streak having run its course.
Carvalho rang the Italian’s bell with a right cross, charged at him
with a flying knee and then closed the show with a slashing elbow
strike along the fence. Sakara hit the deck unconscious and
absorbed a few punches before referee Dan Miragliotta could arrive
on the scene to shield him from further punishment.
More than 5,000 miles away,
Invicta Fighting Championships flyweight titleholder Jennifer
Maia did some heavy lifting of her own. The
Chute Boxe standout returned from a yearlong layoff to capture
a contentious unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten
Aga
Niedzwiedz in the
Invicta 26 headliner on Friday at the Scottish Rite Temple in
Kansas City, Missouri.

Dana White thought he'd be mad about Georges St-Pierre vacating UFC title, 'but I'm not'
“He doesn’t want to fight anybody at welterweight,” White said. “That’s why he fought Bisping. He didn’t want to fight (Tyron) Woodley. He didn’t want to fight (Stephen) ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. He didn’t want to fight any of those guys. He only wanted to fight Michael Bisping. He did, and now he’s off again. I’m not shocked; I’m not mad. It is what it is.”

The boxing spectacle between McGregor and Mayweather drew 6.7 million pay-per-view buys around the world, smashing the record set by Mayweather’s 2015 fight vs. Pacquiao, according to UFC President Dana White . McGregor is believed to have eclipsed a $100 million payday.

Brian Ortega Taps Out Cub Swanson in Statement Win in First UFC Main Event | MMAWeekly.com
As the fight got underway, Swanson was quick on his feet in the opening round, throwing punches in bunches trying to keep Ortega on his toes. Swanson launched every shot with power behind it as he kept head hunting on Ortega, who showed no signs of nervousness in his first UFC main event.

Pro tip: Don't shove your 'deathly sick' baby on a fighter before a UFC main event
“The funniest thing happened. Some guy walks up to me in the lobby, and he goes, ‘Hey, take a picture with my daughter,’ and he shoves her in my face. I was like, ‘all right.’ She was like screaming and crying. And she wouldn’t stay with me, so I hand her back after we took a picture together.”

After viral video, UFC notables have a message for bully victim Keaton Jones

My kids are by no stretch perfect, & at home, he’s as all boy as they come, but by all accounts he’s good at school. Talk to your kids. I’ve even had friends of mine tell me they’re kids were only nice to him to get him to mess with people. We all know how it feels to want to belong, but only a select few know how it really feels not to belong anywhere.”

UFC Fight Night 123: By the Numbers
Brian
Ortega isn’t someone you want near your neck.
Outgunned on the feet by Cub Swanson
in the
UFC Fight Night 123 headliner, Ortega lured his opponent into
his realm, winning via guillotine choke 3:22 into the second round
of their bout in Fresno, Calif., on Saturday night. “T-City” nearly
finished the fight with a guillotine in round one, but Swanson,
after winning most of the frame, was saved by the bell. He wasn’t
nearly as lucky in the second stanza, as Ortega continues to
establish himself as a rising star in the featherweight
division.
Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 123, with
statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.
5: Consecutive victories for Ortega, tying him with Darren
Elkins for the second longest active winning streak in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s featherweight division.
Max
Holloway is No. 1 with 11 straight triumphs.
5: Consecutive finishes in the Octagon for Ortega, tying him with
Stipe
Miocic and Maribek Taisumov for the second longest active
finishing streak in the promotion.

It marks just the fourth time in UFC history that the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles would be at stake on the same card. The last time it happened was on Dec. 27, 2008, at UFC 92, where 205-pound champion Forrest Griffin lost the title to Rashad Evans via TKO, while interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was stopped for the first time in his career by Frank Mir.

Cub Swanson doesn't want to 'crawl back' to UFC contract offer; Dana White aims to please
“It stings,” Swanson told MMAjunkie. “It just gets thrown back in your face, ‘You don’t win the big ones.’ So, it’s like, what am I going to say? I’m sure we’ll negotiate. Dana said ‘let’s make a deal’ from outside the cage. But do I got to crawl back and say, ‘OK, I’ll take that deal I said no to’?”

UFC Fight Night 123 results: Eryk Anders dominates Markus Perez, calls out Lyoto Machida
Right away in the third, Anders put Perez on the canvas with a combination, then followed him down. Perez tried to work out, and when he got back to his feet he had to eat plenty of punches. Perez looked exhausted, but Anders didn’t look like he had a ton of energy, himself. Perez held a one-armed guillotine, but it was mostly defensive to keep Anders from hitting him. Midway through, Anders popped out and worked ground-and-pound. With 45 seconds left, Anders went back to his feet briefly, but wrapped up the fight controlling Perez on the canvas.

UFC Fight Night 123 draws reported 7,605 attendance for $568,290 live gate in Fresno
In the main event, Brian Ortega (13-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) submitted Cub Swanson (25-8 MMA, 10-4 UFC) with a guillotine choke in the second round. Ortega had a submission attempt late in the first, and that no doubt boosted his confidence in the second when he jumped for a perfect guillotine choke that forced Swanson to tap. He picked up a double bonus for “Fight of the Night” and “Performance of the Night” for $100,000.

Rashad Evans says commentating can make you 'feel stupid,' discusses move back to 205
If he’s not fighting, the next-best option for Evans is covering the events. Still, it also comes with its own challenges. As one of the more successful UFC fighters to dabble in MMA commentating, “Suga” is earning veteran status behind the mic too. He was a part of ESPN’s “MMA Live” show before moving to FOX when the UFC announced a multi-year deal with the sports-broadcasting giant.

UFC Fight Night 123 ‘Swanson vs. Ortega’ Play-by-Play, Results & Round-by-Round Scoring
Cub
Swanson vs. Brian
Ortega
Round 1
Referee Mike Beltran is the third man in the cage for tonight's
all-California main event, scheduled for five rounds in the
featherweight division. Judges Derek Cleary, Ron McCarthy and
Marcos Rosales will score the bout at cageside. The fighters
exchange leg kicks in a slow-paced opening minute, with Swanson
landing a few more than Ortiz over the next 60 seconds. Ortega
catches Swanson pressing forward with a right hand, but Swanson
swings right back to counter. Swanson tests out a few feints and
level changes, then fires a left high kick, blocked by Ortega with
a glove. Ortega covers up as Swanson fires a combination, tacking
on a low kick at the end. Ortega backpedals to avoid most of
Swanson's next charging combo. Swanson slows things down and stays
on the outside with low kicks as they fight inside the final two
minutes. Ortega eats a right hand over the top, slides backward and
pops the incoming Swanson with a jab. Swanson goes to the body of
Ortega with a double jab, lands a leg kick and then flashes a left
hook to the face of "T-City." Out of nowhere, Ortega snares Swanson
in a tight guillotine and rolls him to the ground.
