Great MMA Debate: The fallout over CM Punk to the UFC continues

"I don't have a problem with the UFC doing it, what I have a problem with is CM Punk being dumb enough to think he can do it," Brown said on the podcast.  "If he wants to come and fight a real man, after I fight Tarec (Saffiedine) on the 14th, I'm the main event so after everybody is gone, so I'll fight him right after Tarec."

Inside Beijing's airpocalypse – a city made 'almost uninhabitable' by pollution

Paper face masks have been common here for a long time, but now the heavy-duty kind with purifying canister filters – of the sort you might wear for a day of asbestos removal – are frequently seen on the streets. On bad days, bike lanes are completely deserted, as people stay at home or retreat to the conditioned environments of hermetically-sealed malls. It’s as if the 21-million-strong population of the Chinese capital is engaged in a mass city-wide rehearsal for life on an inhospitable planet. Only it’s not a rehearsal: the poisonous atmosphere is already here.

The Fighter & The Kid

This podcast has jumped to the top of my UFC/MMA podcast list - but c'mon, once a week?. I really feel like Brendan and Bryan should be able to do at least 2 eps a week, or maybe 2 hours a pop - I mean, what else do these guys have to do during the day? Brendan habitually mispronouncing every major UFC fighter's name on the roster is a nice touch, too. I also want to hear more about Bryan's mad greco skills. I think he should do each episode shirtless.

Holly Holm sparring again, hopes to face Ronda Rousey in 2015

"I think I'm just numb to it by now. Last year I had six fights in 12 months. And this year, one. A broken arm and a herniated disk. So what can you do? I've gone 16 years without an injury so I guess I really can't complain. I'm just trying to heal, not get too frustrated. But I've been a very active fighter. There was a lot of anticipation for that first fight in the UFC, so it was a huge letdown, especially because I was already three-quarters of the way through a full training camp and I'd already put so much hard work in. It was very much a letdown.

Report: ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira Wants 2 UFC Fights in 2015 Before Retirement

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s storied career could end next year. | Photo: Alan Oliveira/Sherdog.com Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has a plan for the rest of his mixed martial arts career. The UFC heavyweight recently told Brazilian media outlet Combate that he would like to compete twice more inside the Octagon in 2015 before he retires from the sport. “I’m fine now, coming back from a previous injury, already training slowly, doing the physical part. I returned slowly to technical training, but I want to be good next year,” Nogueira told Combate. “I want to fight again in April or May. I’m thinking of ending my career next year. I want to have two more fights, although there’s no one specific yet to face. I’m ready to fight anyone. We’re elite athletes, high-performance, so I can fight anyone, but there’s no specific fight that I want.” Nogueira, who underwent surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in June, said he expects to be near 100 percent early next year. “Minotauro” tore his ACL in training three days before his last bout, a first-round knockout loss to Roy Nelson at UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi on April 11.

Dissecting the UFC fighter antitrust lawsuit, part 1

When being sued for the illegal acquisition or maintenance of monopoly power, the best defense is to not have any power. How can you illegally acquire or maintain that which you never had in the first place? Look for the UFC to make this argument and provide evidence that they compete with boxing, the NFL, the NBA, other sports, the movies and maybe even restaurants and bars for the consumer's entertainment dollar. In the labor market, look out for evidence that they compete with Bellator, WSOF, One FC, other MMA promotions and sometimes professional wrestling to sign and retain fighters, and to show that competitors have not only been entering but are expanding. They also may make the argument that bidding markets - such as bidding for fighter services - don't need many players to be competitive.

Unregulated green-lighting: A look at fight gym culture and unsanctioned bouts

"Sometimes a person comes in and they haven't meshed into a group yet, and they think they are a fighter or want to be a fighter so they talk smack or insult the athletes and coaches, which is an odd thing to do. That kind of attitude, especially in an MMA gym, is not very wise. The only time I've seen a guy get a green light is a situation like that where we just don't know what his problem is and he's acting like the baddest guy on the planet. Someone like that walks into a gym and one of two things is going to happen. They are either going to get straightened out or they will walk out and never come back. They will either get rid of their ego and get with the program, or leave."

UFC Fight Night 58 pre-fight facts: Barao's takedown defense tops record books

Silva landed all 18 significant strikes thrown in his 52-second knockout of Takenori Sato at UFC Fight Night 36. That’s the most in UFC history for a fighter who didn’t miss a strike. Anderson Silva, who went 13-for-13 against James Irvin at UFC Fight Night 14, held the previous record.

UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Dollaway - Idiot's Guide and Preview to FS1/Fight Pass Prelims

The main thing with Sasaki is that he's actually getting time with people like Alpha Male. This is a massive upgrade from the overcrowded shoebox gyms in Japan, for example. With an ADCC Asian trials win, and a ton of experience, expect him to make short work of Issa, who simply won't be able to counter Sasaki's large frame pressuring him all night. The real question is what Sasaki's ceiling is. Is what we thought Hioki could be? Hioki had size too for his division, like Sasaki, but Hioki's problem was always a mental one: it wasn't for a lack of trying, but he has a history of not always fighting to his strengths. Sasaki takes a much more streamlined approach to MMA, so expect the 25 year to benefit.

34 Erick Silva: More Motivated than Ever

It’s a good time for Silva to reevaluate and move forward, because as he enters his ninth UFC fight at the age of 30, it’s time for him to either make a run or be saddled with questions of “what if?” And if you’ve seen him when he’s on top of his game, he belongs with the best welterweights. But he has to prove it every night, and not just every other night, and while he says that “You learn more from one loss than from ten wins,” he can’t afford a second straight defeat against Rhodes, a young man who is also in need of a W after two losses to start his UFC career. “He is a great athlete and he needs the victory as much as I do,” Silva said of his opponent. “It will be a war.”

UFC Issues Official Statement on Class Action Lawsuit | MMAWeekly.com

Cung Le, Jon Fitch, and Nate Quarry, who seek to represent a class of similarly situated current and former UFC fighters, filed a multi-million-dollar class-action lawsuit on Tuesday against the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) organization, accusing it of illegally maintaining monopoly and monoposony power by systematically eliminating competition from rival promoters, artificially suppressing fighters’ earnings from bouts and merchandising and marketing activities through restrictive contracting and other exclusionary practices.

Alex Davis: Latest round of Rousimar Palhares criticism unfounded

To see Rousimar crank on someone’s leg and hyperextend it is not pretty – not even to me. It is disturbing, to say the least. This man is extremely powerful; he is built like a vice. He is also extremely precise in his technique. But he is doing nothing wrong. He is going out there to win the fight, just like anyone else. He is not malicious or a monster, like some here would have us believe. He is a unique athlete with a unique ability that is just downright scary. But he is supposed to go in there and not get the submission?
