Teixeira decided not to waste effort burning out his arms and alertly slipped over to mount. Cirkunov turned again, exposing his back, but Teixeira simply flattened him out and punched away until referee Dan Miragliotta had seen enough at the 2:45 mark of the opening round.

Matches to Make After UFC on Fox 26

Never in Robbie Lawler ’s outstanding 16-year career had he been outclassed so thoroughly over such a long period of time. Take a bow, Rafael dos Anjos . Dos Anjos on Saturday established himself as the No. 1 contender in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s welterweight division, as he swept his way to a unanimous decision over Lawler in the UFC on Fox 26 main event at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. All three cageside judges struck 50-45 scorecards for the Brazilian, a former lightweight champion who has his sights set on becoming a rare two-division titleholder. The full scope of dos Anjos’ dominance can be found in the numbers. According to FightMetric, he landed twice as many significant strikes (172) as Lawler (86) and executed the only two takedowns of the 25-minute affair. The 219 total strikes with which dos Anjos connected were a career-high; and he was marvelously efficient, finding the mark at a staggering 64-percent clip. It was a tip-your-cap experience for Lawler, who was overwhelmed by leg kicks, standing elbows, clinch knees and various punching bursts to the head and body.

UFC on FOX 26 results: Underdog Josh Emmett scores brutal KO of Ricardo Lamas

Emmett looked to pressure early, though Lamas countered with low kicks to keep his opponent at bay. Emmett certainly appeared the bigger man, though Lamas looked comfortable trading in the pocket, even as his opponent was finding range with his right hand. Lamas was relaxed on his feet, alternating angles with a variety of attacks, while Emmett answered with power in every shot. That paid off late in the round, when an Emmett counter left scored flush and left Lamas out cold on the canvas with 27 seconds left in the first round.

UFC on Fox 26 Bonuses: Marquez, Stewart, Taleb, Di Chirico Receive $50K Awards

Julian Marquez , Darren Stewart , Nordine Taleb and Alessio Di Chirico were $50,000 bonus recipients at UFC on Fox 26 in Winnipeg on Saturday night. Marquez and Stewart garnered “Fight of the Night” honors for their physical middleweight clash. Both Marquez and Stewart were more than willing to slug it out in close quarters during the preliminary contest, but Stewart appeared to fade after landing multiple takedowns in the opening stanza. Marquez took advantage in round two, as he trapped Stewart in a guillotine choke following a weak shot and secured the tapout at the 2:42 mark. Elsewhere, Taleb earned a “Performance of the Night” check for his quick finish of Danny Roberts at welterweight. A kick to the face from Taleb sent Roberts stumbling into the fence, and the Tristar Gym representative sent his foe to the canvas with a straight right hand. A few more follow-up punches sealed the victory just 59 seconds into the bout. Finally, Di Chirico received the evening’s other “Peformance of the Night” award for a knockout of Oluwale Bamgbose in a preliminary middleweight tilt.

UFC on Fox 26 By the Numbers

Rafael dos Anjos is one step closer to becoming a two-division Ultimate Fighting Championship champion. The former lightweight titlist improved to 3-0 at 170 pounds on Saturday night, as he earned a dominant unanimous verdict over ex-champ Robbie Lawler in the UFC on Fox 26 headliner. Dos Anjos kept the pressure on his opponent for the duration of their 25-minute encounter, landing powerful low kicks at range and punishing shots in the clinch to sweep the judges’ scorecards. Lawler, who appeared to be hobbled early, has lost two of his last three Octagon appearances. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on Fox 26, with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com. Related » UFC on Fox 26 Round-by-Round Scoring 172: Significant strikes landed by dos Anjos. By comparison, Lawler landed just 86. RDA outlanded his opponent 19 to 14 in round one, 58 to 34 in round two, 19 to 16 in round three, 39 to 11 in round four and 37 to 11 in round five. Ricky Simon Outpoints Bloodied Chico Camus to Snatch Vacant Legacy Fighting Alliance Title

It seemed as if Ricky Simon had snuck a machete into the cage with him. Repeated takedowns, suffocating top control and damaging ground-and-pound carried the Gracie Barra Portland prospect to a unanimous decision over Chico Camus , as he laid claim to the vacant Legacy Fighting Alliance bantamweight championship in the LFA 29 headliner on Friday at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Simon (11-1) swept the scorecards with 48-46, 50-45 and 49-45 nods from the judges. By the time it was done, pools of Camus’ blood covered the canvas and made for treacherous footing for both combatants, referee Travis Metteer, cornermen, cageside physicians and anyone else who entered the cage. It was a truly gruesome scene. Simon set the tone with a strong first round and never looked back. He secured multiple takedowns across the first five minutes and opened a cut near Camus’ right eye with a series of slashing elbows. Blood leaked from the wound, and despite the cutman’s best efforts, the flow never stopped. Outside of the third round, where he staggered Simon with a straight right and scrambled into top position, Camus (17-8) was largely ineffective.

UFC on FOX 26 results: Jan Blachowicz jabs his way past Jared Cannonier

Blachowicz stuck with the jab in the second, also adding in more low kicks, as well. Cannonier landed several solid low kicks in response, even as he struggled to land much of anything with his hands. Blachowicz did get a nice takedown in the middle stages of the round, but Cannonier was back to his feet in quick fashion. A Blachowicz combination dropped Cannonier, but he again was able to quickly work back to his feet, where he actually poked his opponent’s left eye to force a brief timeout. On the restart, Blachowicz again flashed crisp striking before scoring a late takedown and ending the round on top.

UFC Lightweight Champ Conor McGregor Says He Wants a ‘True Fight’ in MMA Next

Conor McGregor sounds as though he wants to return to his roots for his next combat sports appearance. Speaking with TMZ Sports, the UFC champion briefly addressed the possibilities for his next move. “I think a true fight is what I want to do next,” McGregor said. “A real fight.” Recently, former eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao confirmed that he had approached McGregor’s team about a potential bout in April 2018. “Initially,” Pacquiao told Sky Sports last week. “But we have not yet had any follow-up conversations. If we can negotiate it, I have no problem. It is OK with both of us.” Both UFC President Dana White and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum later denied that such a matchup was in the works. When asked by TMZ about a bout with Pacquaio, McGregor instead hinted toward a return to the UFC. “MMA next,” the Irish star said. McGregor hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since he stopped Eddie Alvarez in the second round at UFC 205 in November 2016 to claim the lightweight crown. White initially hoped to book the SBG Ireland representative in a title unification bout against interim champ Tony Ferguson before the end of the year, but that did not come to fruition.

UFC on FOX 26 results: Santiago Ponzinibbio edges Mike Perry in 3-round thriller

As they reset with a little more than two minutes remaining, both men showed the wear of battle. A Ponzinibbio takedown proved key, and Perry appeared a little tired as he settled for simply holding from the bottom rather than try and power his way back to the feet. Ponzinibbio was happy to ride the position, though Perry did finally get to his feet with a little more than 20 seconds remaining. The two men teed off on the reset, though Ponzinibbio got the best of the exchange and eventually backed away, taunting his opponent with outstretched arms. An exhausted Perry simply couldn’t muster the energy to chase, and Ponzinibbio walked away with a hard-fought decision win, 29-28 on all three cards.

Glover Teixeira ‘Didn’t Think Much’ of Misha Cirkunov’s Power Prior to TKO Victory

In the early moments of their featured light heavyweight contest, Glover Teixeira looked out of his depth against Misha Cirkunov at UFC on Fox 26 . The 30-year-old Latvian pressed the action on the feet, mixing in his kicks and punches to keep Teixeira on his heels. The success was short lived, however, as the 38-year-old Brazilian secured a takedown about two minutes in and quickly transitioned to a rear-naked choke. While Cirkunov was able to defend the choke, he went belly down, allowing his opponent to posture up and unload with punches from back mount. A flattened Cirkunov appeared to be helpless at that point, and Teixeira earned a relatively easy stoppage at the 2:45 mark. “I think people underestimate my jiu-jitsu and wrestling because they know I have the knockout power but grappling is a real passion for me,” Teixeira said. “So, once I grabbed him, I was able to take the top position and flatten him out.” While Teixeira was outlanded during the brief exchanges on the feet, he says was never felt truly threatened in the early going.

Silva did have one earnest effort at a triangle choke, but Mein calmly worked his way free and maintained a dominant position until the final bell, walking away with a clearcut decision win, 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.
