I continue to develop as an athlete, but I've been at this a long time -- I don't know how much longer I have in the sport -- but I feel really good where I'm at. Texas Governor, Texas State House, Texas State Senate, City of Austin, Texas: Open Carry Guns? How About Swords?

The purpose of this petition is to convince Texas legislature and the governor that it is only logical for Texas citizens to be able to carry around swords in sheaths like we are able to carry around rifles and pistols in public. How many of us are getting amped up about open carry gun laws in Texas? Texas citizens with a CHL will soon be able to open carry just about anywhere in public. What I don't understand is why can't we open carry swords? Don't believe me? Just check out the law: § 46.02.  Unlawful Carrying Weapons (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries onor about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not: (1) on the person’s own premises or premises under the person’s control; or (2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person’s control…. § 46.01.  Definitions In this chapter:…..(6) “Illegal knife” means a:(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;(D) bowie knife;(E) sword; or(F) spear.

Fighting for Rizin on New Year’s Eve Worth the Risk for Bellator’s Brennan Ward

By most accounts, 2015 has been a breakout campaign for Brennan Ward . The Waterford, Conn., native is three-for-three when it comes to first-round finishes this year, and each time Ward has occupied a prominent spot on a Bellator MMA card in his home state. That track record has the 27-year-old welterweight being mentioned as a potential contender for Andrey Koreshkov ’s title: Bellator President Scott Coker admitted as much during an interview with MMAJunkie.com this past October. Despite that potentially lofty standing, Ward isn’t content to remain idle over the holidays. Instead, he will travel to Japan to face the unbeaten Ken Hasegawa at Rizin Fighting Federation's New Year's Eve event . For Ward, the decision was a no-brainer. “Some people have been getting on me about taking this fight: ‘What if you lose, man? You might not be able to fight for the title.’ I was like yeah, but I don’t really care,” Ward told Sherdog.com. “I’d rather go and have fun in Japan and live my lifestyle of having fun and doing whatever I want to do than sit around and not take this opportunity to fight overseas on the same card as Fedor [Emelianenko] and wait for a title shot because I’m scared to lose.

Fabricio Werdum Denies Retirement Rumors: ‘Now That I’m Getting Rich, Why Retire?’

Fabricio Werdum is at the top of his game, but rumors of the UFC heavyweight champion’s imminent retirement have sprung up in recent weeks. Forums and social media in Brazil and beyond have seen speculation that, should he successfully defend his belt against Cain Velasquez at UFC 196 , “Vai Cavalo” will hang up his gloves. In fact, two years ago, Werdum himself stated that he would walk away if he could submit then-champion Velasquez in their first meeting. Now, however, things have changed. In a recent interview with Sherdog.com, Werdum -- with his usual sense of humor -- denied any new rumors that his career is coming to a close. “Now that I’m getting rich, why would I retire? No way! I want to make history” Werdum told Sherdog.com. “I want to be considered the best heavyweight fighter in history by the fans. I started beating Fedor [Emelianenko], [Mark] Hunt, Velasquez -- a long list. I was always considered the underdog. So, now I think I’m starting a new phase in my career where I’m not the underdog anymore. “In the beginning, everybody said that I was a jiu-jitsu fighter.

Kevin Casey vs. Rafael Natal Added to UFC on Fox 18 in New Jersey

After an unsatisfying Octagon outing earlier this month, Kevin Casey will get straight back to work in the new year. Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Monday announced that Casey will take on Rafael Natal in a middleweight attraction at next month’s UFC on Fox 18 in New Jersey. Headlined by a light heavyweight duel between Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader , the nationally televised show takes place Jan. 30 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Casey fought against Antonio Carlos Jr. for all of 11 seconds on Dec. 10 before an eye poke left Casey unable to continue and the bout was called off. In fact, while the 34-year-old “King” will enter his next bout on a six-fight unbeaten streak, two of those bouts were ruled “no-contest,” including a July 2014 victory over Bubba Bush which was overturned when Casey tested positive for steroids. Natal, 33, comes into the matchup having won three in a row, including two highly contentious split decisions. “Sapo” last saw action in May, when he snatched away a victory from Uriah Hall on the undercard of UFC 187 .

Sherdog.com’s 2015 Beatdown of the Year - Miocic vs. Hunt

1. Stipe Miocic vs. Mark Hunt UFC Fight Night “Miocic vs. Hunt” Saturday, May 10 Adelaide Entertainment Centre | Adelaide, Australia A heavyweight clash between Stipe Miocic and Mark Hunt seemed like an ideal UFC Fight Night headliner for the company’s first foray into Adelaide, Australia, on May 10. Hunt is a beloved combat sports veteran and a New Zealand native whose big-punching, all-action style seemed to be a perfect test and foil for the emerging Miocic, who had just fallen short on the scorecards against former UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos five months earlier. It is hard for any promoter, even the UFC, to put together a five-round heavyweight fight worth getting excited for, especially if it is not a championship bout, but Miocic-Hunt was a style matchup that promised not just bona fide action but bona fide heavyweight action, which normally means someone is going to sleep. Unfortunately, the only folks asleep that night in Adelaide were those people tasked with protecting Hunt, who was senselessly forced to endure the beating of a lifetime, the biggest of his 20-year combat sports career, and Sherdog.

Carlos Condit’s Journey To Accomplish His Lifelong Goal

I spoke to Carlos Condit about the journey he has been on trying to accomplish his lifelong goal of becoming the UFC undisputed welterweight champion. The journey has had its fair share of highs and lows, but Condit has risen to the occasion and is one step away from finally accomplishing that goal. The journey started when Condit won the interim welterweight title against Nick Diaz at UFC 143 on February 4, 2012. Condit is one of the hardest workers in the UFC and winning the interim title was a special moment. Condit talked about winning the interim belt against Diaz. At that point I have been competing about a decade and slowly making my way up through the ranks. Winning the belt really validated all the work and all the sacrifice that I have done. ALSO ON CAGE PAGES: Jon Jones: The King Has Returned Not only did it validate all of Condit’s hard work and sacrifices, but it also validated that he is one of the best fighters in the world. Chris Leben remembers the time Nate Quarry saved his life

As you would expect, the Rosholt fight was not my best performance. I felt like a disgusting mess and I looked even worse. The first round was decent, but I was definitely hesitant and not feeling myself. We traded a lot of leg kicks, and, to be honest, Rosholt hit me with some heavy ones. He also bloodied up my nose. Then, in the middle of the round, he attacked with a knee strike, which I caught and turned into a takedown. We were against the cage, and I was on top, but I wasn’t able to do much damage. Rosholt got back to his feet and, by that time, I was already winded and checking the clock. I wanted to put this guy to sleep, so I started chasing him and winging heavy left hooks. No luck. The round ended.

Combat Crate Benefits Wounded Warriors

As we culminate the holiday season and approach a new year, many of us realize how truly blessed we are. In doing so, most of us are sincerely grateful for those who have made significant sacrifices so that we, as patriots, may enjoy the freedoms of our great nation. Current headlines and news stories are hyper focused on the recent surge in threats to our way of living. Horrible travesties and cowardly attacks have been carried out on what we consider our birth right as Americans. As our military prepares for possible deployments, we are reminded of those who have suited up in camouflage clad battle dress uniforms and put country before self; many of whom were killed or severely wounded in the trenches. Those wounded warriors then return home and a role reversal occurs in which they now need the civilians to help them with their next chapter. I'm sure we are all ready to read a feel good story; this is one we can all feel good about!

10 Best – Top UFC fights of 2015

A great fight is a perfect storm. Put two fighters together and you never know what you’ll get, but when both have the intention of making a statement against each other and the styles mesh, it becomes something more than just an athletic competition. When that happens, there’s nothing better in all of sports. Here are 10 of the best fights from 2015, as the Highly Unofficial awards season continues. 10 – Gian Villante-Corey Anderson Corey Anderson’s first pro loss was a painful one, mainly due to the teeth he had to get fixed after eating a knee from Gian Villante, but someday he may look at the third-round knockout defeat as the turning point in his career, because he proved that he didn’t just have the talent to succeed, but the heart as well. This was a dig down deep bout, and both Anderson and Villante did that throughout, with Long Island’s Villante - down on one scorecard heading into the final round and even on the other two – leaving the judges out of it with a sudden third-round finish. 9 – Nicolas Dalby-Darren Till Fighters with unbeaten records often fight a certain way when they reach the elite level of the sport, choosing to protect that “0” instead of using the style that got them to the big show in the first place.

Sherdog.com’s 2015 Comeback Fighter of the Year - Maia

1. Demian Maia Demian Maia celebrated his 38th birthday while holding his position as a world-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight. The Brazilian fought off younger prospects on three separate occasions during a true-to-form 2015 run that made him Sherdog.com’s “Comeback Fighter of the Year.” Maia polished his record at 170 pounds to 7-2 and improved to 16-6 overall inside the Octagon. He now finds himself on a four-fight winning streak, his latest victories serving as building blocks to a potential shot at welterweight gold. First, Maia headlined a UFC Fight Night event his home country on March 21 and bested Blackzilians rep Ryan LaFlare across 25 minutes. Maia only lost one round on each judge’s scorecard. He returned to Brazil for UFC 190 on Aug. 1, as he earned his first submission in three years with a rear-naked choke on Neil Magny . It netted him a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus -- the sixth post-fight bonus of his UFC career. Finally on Dec. 12, Maia took a unanimous decision from Gunnar Nelson at UFC 194 and in the process garnered the ultra-rare 10-8 grappling round on two scorecards.
