UFC 207 results: T.J. Dillashaw's wrestling game key in dominant decision win over John Lineker

That may have proved his toughness, but it didn’t do much to help Lineker in the bout. Dillashaw took him down again in the third and even attempted the rarely seen calf-slicer submission in the waning moments. Lineker would survive and even get back to his feet, but he still couldn’t find Dillashaw often enough to threaten him, and by the time the final horn sounded the outcome was all but certain.

Opinion: Holographic Ronda’s Surprising Presence

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Regardless of what transpires at UFC 207, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s year-end event seems destined for historical notoriety based on the pre-fight shenanigans alone. We’ve had Cain Velasquez torpedo his rematch with Fabricio Werdum by publicly discussing his impending surgery and managing pain with cannabidiol; Johny Hendricks blew weight again; Cody Garbrandt and Jeremy Stephens got into a fight; and of course, Ronda Rousey has done no media. How we wind up remembering Rousey’s media kibosh will be inevitably tied to whether or not she beats Amanda Nunes , but there is a certain toothlessness to it anyway. She didn’t let the “UFC Embedded” crew get much footage of her and she balked at doing fight week press, but it’s not like Rousey has been some kind of ghost. She did daytime television with Ellen Degeneres and late-night television with Conan O’Brien.

Justin Gaethje’s Comfort Zone

Those who follow mixed martial arts closely know Justin Gaethje . Perhaps the top lightweight operating outside the auspices of the Ultimate Fighting Championship , he has become one of the big fish in the World Series of Fighting pond. Gaethje will put his perfect 16-0 record on the line when he defends his lightweight championship against the seasoned and well-traveled Luiz Firmino in the WSOF 34 headliner on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. A late change in opponent -- Firmino stepped in for the injured Joao Zeferino on short notice -- has done nothing to curb the champion’s enthusiasm. Gaethje maintains a steely focus on final approach. “I was definitely disappointed, but I was mainly concerned that I wasn’t going to be able to fight on the card at all,” he told Sherdog.com. “I didn’t know if someone would be willing to take the fight on short notice or if he would have been able to get all his medicals in on time; it can be difficult. It was supposed to be Zeferino, but I’m actually now even more excited to be fighting Firmino because he’s been very disrespectful and bad for our sport.

Opinion: Why Mike Goldberg is Out

Opinion: Why Mike Goldberg is Out Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * I still vividly remember the first time that I saw Mike Goldberg. After I first got a computer and internet access in the Summer of 1997, I stupidly dropped my subscriptions to the various pro wrestling industry newsletters, since I was going to get all my news online. I lost touch with mixed martial arts as a result, as a didn’t really seek out any primitive fighting forums or websites. Being in the heart of Cablevision’s service area in New York, I had long since been without access to MMA pay-per-view, so I would keep up with the Ultimate Fighting Championship via home video releases at Blockbuster. The problem with this was that the UFC’s original home video, with Trimark, had tapes coming out over a year after the event happened. So I remember seeing that the Ultimate Japan card had arrived in the new release section, and seeing that for the first time in years, color commentator Jeff Blatnick was not joined by Bruce Beck.

World Series of Fighting 34 Weigh-in Results: All Four Title Fights Green Lit

Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts promotion World Series of Fighting is set to unleash its greatest event in history. Set to invade the Big Apple, WSOF 34 will deliver a quadrant of world title fights as the event commences inside The Theater at Madison Square Garden in the heart of Manhattan. The main event will see unbeaten lightweight champion Justin Gaethje defend his title against late replacement challenger Luiz Firmino . The two haven’t hid their dislike for one another in the weeks leading up to their New Year’s Eve battle and at Friday’s weigh-ins, both combatants came in on point. Firmino was the first to step onto the scale and the Brazilian nailed it, coming in officially at 154.4 pounds. Gaethje, meanwhile, looked as good as ever and checked in at 154.8 pounds. The co-feature will see a pair of longtime MMA vets duke it out for the first time ever as current welterweight champ Jon Fitch will put his belt on the line against Jake Shields . Both Means and UFC VP of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner believed the blows were legal given Oliveira only had one knee on the mat. UFC 207 Betting Odds: Rousey Remains Slight Favorite Over Champ Nunes

UFC 207 has nearly arrived, but there is still time to hustle to your nearest sportsbook and drop some hard-earned coinage on the fights. When looking at the odds for the UFC’s final event of 2016, there are some solid options to turn a profit. The headliner of the night is ballyhooed showdown between reigning women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes , as she makes the first defense of her title against one of the most popular athletes in the world. Ronda Rousey will make her long-awaited return to the Octagon after losing her belt to a Holly Holm head kick more than a year ago, and she’s a slight favorite to reclaim her crown. As of Thursday afternoon, various online sportsbooks in Las Vegas pegged “Rowdy” Ronda as a -140 favorite over Nunes. Conversely, the Brazilian champ is a slight underdog at +110. While the odds aren’t going to make anybody rich overnight because of how close the experts have handicapped the duel, a profit can be earned by laying money on Nunes. The co-main event will see men’s bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz hold the fort against upstart knockout artist Cody Garbrandt .

UFC 207 Statistical Matchup Analysis: Nunes vs. Rousey

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is pulling out the big guns to finish off a record-setting year. In the headlining bout at UFC 207 on Friday, former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey makes her return to the cage after more than a year away from the fight game. Rousey became one of the biggest stars in the sport between 2012 and 2015, rattling off six dominant title defenses and pushing the female side of MMA to new heights. All of that came to a halt in November 2015, her most recent appearance in the cage, when Rousey was knocked out in devastating fashion by Holly Holm . Many question marks surround her return, especially since she has insisted on minimal media appearances. On the other side of the cage will be the current women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes . “The Lioness” has been a mainstay in the division since 2011, fighting in Strikeforce and Invicta Fighting Championships before making her UFC debut in 2013. Nunes is currently riding a four-fight winning streak. She was last active in the Octagon in July, as she trounced then-champion Miesha Tate in the UFC 200 main event, notching a first-round submission to win the title.
