Urijah Faber Remains in USADA Testing Pool, Would Consider Return for ‘Big Opportunity’

Don’t rule out a Urijah Faber comeback in the Ultimate Fighting Championship just yet. The UFC Hall of Famer recently told Submission Radio that he is still in the USADA drug testing pool and would be able to return to the Octagon in short order if the right opportunity arose. “Look, I spent a lot of time getting really great at fighting and I’m able-bodied and healthy. I train just as much or more than some of the guys that are active but it’s not my goal, necessarily,” Faber said. “It’s just the habits that I’ve created in my life. “I would say I’m always open to entertain any business opportunity or offer, and I love to do things that I love to do, so I’m not gonna cut anything out. I still get tested from USADA just because I’ve never taken drugs in my life so I don’t really care about that.” According to the USADA website, the Team Alpha Male founder was tested three times in 2017. He has not been tested so far in 2018. Since he remains in the USADA pool, “The California Kid” would not have to go through the four-month testing period normally required for retired fighters.

UFC 221 Post-Mortem: When Lightning Strikes

The UFC 221 main event between Yoel Romero and Luke Rockhold was shrouded in controversy before either man ever set foot in the cage. Romero weighed in nearly three pounds over the middleweight limit for their interim title fight, placing it in jeopardy before he was later docked a percentage of his purse and forfeited his chance at the championship. When Romero and Rockhold finally climbed into the Octagon on Saturday in Australia, they gave the 12,347 in attendance a battle worth remembering. It started slowly, with Romero mindful of his output and content to stalk his adversary around the cage. Rockhold tried to eat away at the 2000 Olympic silver medalist’s lead leg with kicks while keeping him at bay with jabs. It worked for the better part of two rounds. Entering the middle stanza, he had controlled the pace and distance, building an advantage with his diverse standup arsenal. Romero turned the fight on a dime, as he sent the Californian crashing to the canvas with a lightning strike of an overhand left. He then finished it with a brutal uppercut to the down Rockhold’s exposed face 1:48 into Round 3.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Matt Mitrione

Matt Mitrione has made life difficult for his fellow heavyweights since he competed on Season 10 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” He has earned his stripes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator MMA through the dangerous power emanating from his fists. Having gone 3-0 since he left the UFC, Mitrione will headline Bellator 194 opposite Roy Nelson in the Bellator heavyweight grand prix quarterfinals on Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The winner advances to the semifinals, where a battle with the forthcoming Ryan Bader - Muhammed Lawal showdown awaits later this year. Ahead of Mitrione’s clash with Nelson, here are five things you might not know about him. 1. Injuries curtailed his NFL career. Mitrione was an accomplished high school and college football player prior to moving to MMA. While at Purdue University, he managed to overcome a foot injury and later earned a spot on the New York Giants roster as an undrafted free agent. Unfortunately for Mitrione, he suffered yet another foot injury in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the 2003 NFL playoffs.

What's to become of you, Mark Hunt?

The market for Hunt’s specific brand of violence still is very strong. He wants to keep doing this well into his mid-40s? And he’s still reasonably competitive, even against guys like Blaydes, who at 26 is almost half his age? Then fine, you know there’ll be someone willing to cut him a check.

Sergio Pettis calls out UFC 221 winner Jussier Formiga

Prior to the loss, the 24-year-old Pettis was riding a four-fight winning streak. He hasn’t succumbed to a submission in a fight since his first pro loss in January 2014, and it appears Pettis wants to see where his skills stand against a dangerous grappling threat like No. 7-ranked Formiga.

UFC's Luke Rockhold could move to light heavyweight inside a year

The setback to Romero was a tough start to 2018 for the former champ, who lost his title in June 2016 when Michael Bisping (30-9 MMA, 20-9 UFC) stepped up on short notice and delivered an upset knockout at UFC 199. Rockhold spent the remainder of the year at odds with the UFC over his contract before restructuring his deal. He returned to the octagon this past September and battered ex-WSOF champ David Branch (21-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) to get back to the win column .

“My main motivation is to prove I’m No. 1 in the world,” Askren recently told MMAjunkie Radio. “I think it will happen, at the Bell Centre (in Montreal). Me vs. ‘GSP,’ probably somewhere in late 2019. … I don’t need to make any more money from fighting, and there’s only one thing left to prove. After Initially Fearing Broken Leg at UFC 221, Yoel Romero Expected to Be ‘Good to Go’ Soon

While Yoel Romero initially feared the worst regarding his injured leg following his win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 , it now appears that the Cuban will have a short recovery. Romero did not appear at Saturday’s post-fight press conference because he was transported to the hospital. However, he did conduct a brief interview on Fox Sports 1, where he said he thought he broke his leg in the opening stanza after absorbing several hard leg kicks from his opponent. “In the first round I took two kicks, and I’m pretty sure that broke my leg,” said Romero, who was unable to stand in the Octagon or during his FS1 interview after his third-round knockout of Rockhold in Perth, Australia. Romero may have misjudged the severity of his injury. According to management representative Abe Kawa, Romero will be “good to go” in a “couple weeks.” With @YoelRomeroMMA in the hospital. Olympic Bronze Medalist Damian Janikowski Set to Headline KSW 43 on April 14

Damian Janikowski , who captured the bronze medal in wrestling for Poland in the 2012 Summer Olympics, will top the lineup for Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki 43 on April 14. South Africa’s Du Plessis will make his promotional debut after compiling an 11-1 mark under the Extreme Fighting Championship banner.

Matt Mitrione Feels Deserving of Favorite Label in Bellator Heavyweight Tournament

When Bellator MMA unveiled the brackets for its heavyweight grand prix last year, oddsmakers tabbed Matt Mitrione as one of the early favorites . Mitrione opened with 9/4 odds to win the bracket, while light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader was listed as a close second at 14/5. Mitrione will face Roy Nelson in the first round of the tournament at Bellator 194 on Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Friday night. The card will be televised on the Paramount Network beginning at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. According to the man known as “Meathead,” that favorite status was well deserved. “I felt like I should be the No. 1 pick or the favorite to win,” Mitrione told “I’m the best heavyweight Bellator has to offer, and until somebody comes in and whoops me, I’m gonna feel that way until the very end. Roy’s a great challenge. Roy has probably the best chance of beating me. I feel right now that I’m pretty damn good, so Roy better bring his cookies with him.” In fact, Nelson already owns a victory over Mitrione.

“I have zero revenge factor going on,” Mitrione told MMAjunkie Radio about the Paramount-televised rematch, which headlines Friday’s Bellator 194 event at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. “Good job. Roy’s the first guy to legitimately beat me. I can’t get upset about that.
