Former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir silenced his doubters at UFC Fight Night 61 in Porto Alegre, Brazil with a stunning first-round knockout of Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva. A quick jab, left hook combo from Frank dropped his Brazilian opponent before a series of punches and elbows on the ground finished things for good.

Frank Mir 'Absolutely' Wants UFC Rubber Match with Brock Lesnar |

“To keep [a fight with Lesnar] anywhere in the works, I had to get a win tonight,” he said. “I really just kept it in the back of mind. It’s not something like, ‘I’m gonna win this to fight Brock.’ I was like, ‘Man, I need to win this so I can keep my job or my wife’s not going to let me go to the gym anymore.'”

"Well, no one saw my vagina. There's the one big difference. The agreement that me and my mom came up with was whatever you're not willing to show in public, you won't show in a magazine. So if I'm gonna tan on the beach with my top off facedown, how is that different than anything I've shot so far? If they can't see your cash and prizes, then I'm fine with it. If I'm gonna do that on a Saturday, then what's wrong with me doing it in a magazine?"

Eddie Alvarez vs. Gilbert Melendez co-headlines UFC 188 in Mexico City

He now meets Melendez, whom he’s previously sparred with in the media while discussing a potential bout. Melendez recently returned from a 14-month layoff, due to in part to a contract renegotiation, and suffered a title loss to champ Anthony Pettis after their coaching stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 20.” The 32-year-old, who won seven straight fights from 2009-2012, is now 1-2 in his past three bouts, which also included a UFC-debut loss to then-champ Benson Henderson in 2013.

Michael Johnson Wants to Fight Benson Henderson After Fourth Straight UFC Win

After four straight wins, Michael Johnson knows who he wants next. | File photo: Dave Mandel/ Michael Johnson returned to the Octagon in impressive fashion at UFC Fight Night “Mir vs. Bigfoot,” defeating Edson Barboza via unanimous decision. Johnson had not competed for 11 months but showed no signs of Octagon rust, as he took the fight to Barboza for 15 minutes. For Johnson, the win was a testament to the hard work he puts in at Jaco Hybrid Training Center in Boca Raton, Fla. “I felt really good. I felt extremely confident... I train at the best MMA gym in the world, the Blackzilians down in South Florida. I fight every day of the week. Every time I’m in there,” Johnson told Fox Sports 1 after the fight. “I just didn’t take 11 months off where I was sitting on the couch. I recovered from my injuries, I got back in the gym, I helped guys get ready for fights. I started preparing myself and it showed. I don’t believe in ring rust. I fight every day, and it’s just another day in the gym.” Leading up to his fight with Barboza, “The Menace” had publicly questioned the chin of his opponent.

It’s official: Americans should drink more coffee

The decision, which broke the committee's more than 40 years of silence on coffee, was driven by heightened interest in the caffeinated beverage as well as a growing anxiety about potential health risks associated with it, according to Nelson. It remains to be seen whether the Department of Health and Human Services or the Agriculture Department will take the committee's recommendations for coffee intake to heart and include them in the official dietary guidelines update, which is due out later this year. But it's rare for the government agencies to ignore the panel's advice, so it's fair to expect a federal endorsement for drinking coffee—as much as five cups a day no less—to be just around the bend.

Holiday Inn, InterContinental Hotels Group: Withdraw the lawsuit intended to shut down Colorado's marijuana regulatory system

New Vision Hotels should withdraw the federal lawsuit it filed regarding its Frisco Holiday Inn location, and Holiday Inn's parent company, InterContinental Hotels Group, should urge them to withdraw it. This misguided lawsuit is intended to shut down Colorado's marijuana regulatory system and force the product back into the underground market. It would undermine a set of laws and regulations that were designed to make Colorado communities safer by ensuring quality-controlled marijuana is produced and sold by licensed, taxpaying businesses instead of drug cartels and criminals. I intend to avoid staying at any Holiday Inn hotels until the lawsuit is withdrawn, and I will be encouraging my friends and relatives to do the same.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: The Fight that Boxing and Las Vegas Needs Badly

Just like Ali and Frazier on that boiling hot day in Manila, the inexorable march of time has chipped away at the marvelous skills of Mayweather and Pacquiao. The minus side of all of this is that neither is the fighter he was. On the plus sign, each has lost just about the same amount of talent, so that while they may not be the same as they were, in terms of the matchup they remain as first among equals.

Upset-Filled UFC Fight Night Cost Online Sportsbook Nearly $1M

Betting favorites weren’t the only ones who lost out at UFC Fight Night “Bigfoot vs. Mir.” According to a report from , Sunday’s event in Porto Alegre, Brazil -- which featured a record-setting 10 victories for gambling underdogs -- cost online sportsbook nearly $1 million. Bovada sportsbook manager Kevin Bradley told ESPN that the Canada-based company saw at least a dozen small, all-underdog parlay bets pay out $10,000 or more. Bovada on Monday revealed that its biggest winner earned $48,291 on a $1 bet which featured nine underdogs. Bradley said that the loss on the event will make it difficult for Bovada to have a profitable 2015 in combat sports, though a favorable result in the May 2 bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao could help. “We take in so much more money on the NFL or the NBA that when you have these types of parlay winners, it’s hard to hurt [our business],” Bradley said. “With UFC, this will be hard to come back from.” Heavyweight headliner Frank Mir capped an evening of surprising wins by knocking out Antonio Silva and becoming the card’s ninth straight underdog to emerge victorious from the Octagon.

In case you didn't know, or hadn't heard, the state high school wrestling tournament in Iowa is kind of a big deal.

But more fighters seem to be getting caught. As in most sports, there is a tremendous amount of pressure to perform in MMA and in the UFC. If you don’t perform, you basically don’t get paid. The increased demand for UFC programming by virtue of its deal with FOX could also be a factor. They went from being on Spike TV – where they only broadcast “The Ultimate Fighter” once a year and two or three live fight cards annually – to having three or more fight cards a month and airing “The Ultimate Fighter” twice a year on the FOX channels.
