'The Korean Zombie', Bermudez on weight, Rawlings misses the mark at UFC in Houston | FOX Sports

The only fighter to miss weight was strawweight competitor Bec Rawlings, who came in at 117.5 pounds — 1.5 pounds over the strawweight limit at 116 pounds for a non-title bout. Fighters are given two hours to weigh-in during the morning hours, but Rawlings still stepped on the scale well ahead of the deadline, which likely meant she knew her body wasn’t going to be able to shed the extra pound and a half to make weight.

Opinion: The Ghosts of Pay-Per-Views Past

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Sherdog.com, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * It's Super Bowl week. In the past, that meant the Ultimate Fighting Championship would be rolling out some of its biggest stars this weekend. In the present, the UFC's biggest stars on Super Bowl weekend are ghosts, just memories in pronouncements from Dana White . This Saturday, in Super Bowl 51's host city of Houston, the UFC will indeed have an event , but even with the return of “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and how truly exciting that is, his headliner against Dennis Bermudez and the card below it is not in the mold of the UFC pay-per-views from Super Bowl weekends gone by. This is not a surprise, as even under Zuffa ownership, the weekend of the “Big Game” was de-emphasized over the last few years; a contingent of fans thought UFC 183, headlined by the ill-fated Anderson Silva - Nick Diaz clash, was generally a step down based on years gone by.

Koreshkov vs. Gonzalez, Honeycutt vs. Grove Added to Bellator 174 Main Card

Bellator MMA announced on Friday that a pair of bouts have been added to next month’s Bellator 174 card. Former Bellator welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov will look to rebound after losing his title to Douglas Lima at Bellator 164 last November. The Russian knockout artist will lock horns with Fernando Gonzalez , who is also coming off a loss. Gonzalez dropped a split decision to Michael Page at Bellator 165 in November. Meanwhile, rising contender Chris Honeycutt will look to build upon his three-fight winning streak when he takes on Hawaiian Kendall Grove at 185 pounds. “Da Spyder” has gone 2-2 in his last four, with both losses coming via TKO. The longtime UFC veteran was stopped by former three-time Bellator chap Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 162. Bellator 174 takes place at Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Okla., March 3 and will be anchored by the inaugural women’s featherweight championship between Marloes Coenen and Julia Budd . At least one additional bout will be revealed soon for the main card, which will be televised live on Spike beginning at 9 p.

Cain Carrizosa Edges Danny Navarro in Tachi Palace Fights 30 Main Event

Sergio Quinones vs. Castle Williams #TPF30 Ref's trying to kill people out there pic.twitter.com/SnVrInjhQS — Zombie Prophet (@ZPGIFs) February 3, 2017 If only Cain Carrizosa had been able to make weight on Wednesday. If he had, with the way he fought in the main event of Tachi Palace Fights 30 on Thursday night, he likely would have snatched Danny Navarro ’s lightweight title away from him. Carrizosa was the aggressor throughout their duel and out-struck the defending champion the majority of the time and was constantly a step ahead of “Ironman.” While rounds one and two were close, Carrizosa poured on the attrition in the third, easily winning the frame. Navarro tried to rally late but “The Insane” was in such a rhythm that it was fruitless. In the end, because Carrizosa, an Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator MMA veteran, had missed weight so badly, the battle was reduced from five rounds to three, which benefitted him. All three judges favored Carrizosa with scores of 29-28, allowing him to exact vengeance on the last man to beat him. Since it was a non-title affair, Navarro was able to keep his title even in defeat.

Video: Luis Collazo Brutally Knocks Out Sammy Vasquez in PBC on FS1 Main Event

#PBConFS1 pic.twitter.com/nbxmG3bYY8 — PBC (@premierboxing) February 3, 2017 With both men aiming to rebound from a loss in his last fight, Sammy Vasquez and Luis Collazo electrified the capacity crowd inside the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, Miss., as the battle ended with an explosion. Anchoring the latest installment of Premier Boxing Champions’ reliable PBC on FS1 series, Vasquez began his welterweight showdown by boxing circles around Collazo (37-7, 20 KOs). “The Who Can Mexican” moved beautifully and picked the Brooklynite apart with relative ease. However, when Collazo turned up the pressure in the third, he sucked Vasquez into a heated exchange. Vasquez fell for the trap and was floored by a sizzling left-right to the head. Vasquez (21-2, 15 KOs) climbed back to his feet and rallied in the fourth by rocking his foe badly with a left hook to the melon, but Collazo wouldn’t buckle. From there, they pinned their ears back and stood virtually toe-to-toe for the next two rounds. Finally, an atomic bomb of a right hook caught Vasquez dead on the chin during an exchange in the sixth, knocking him senseless and motionless on his side.

UFC Fight Night 104 ‘Bermudez vs. Korean Zombie’ Results: Play-by-Play & Updates

Bec Rawlings vs. Tecia Torres Round 1 Torres opens with kicks to the legs and body of Rawlings, who misses with her first few combinations. Torres steps inside to land a pair of punches, backs out of the pocket before Rawlings can counter, and now the "Tiny Tornado" comes back to hit Rawlings with another punch and a body kick. Rawlings partially blocks a head kick but takes a few steps backward after absorbing the strike. Torres continues to pile on the low kicks through the center of the round, her constant movement keeping her clear of most, if not all of Rawlings' punches. The left hook is working for Torres, too, reddening the right side of Rawlings' face. Rawlings attacks with a Thai clinch and hits Torres with a few knees to the body before Torres peels away. Body kicks are Torres' best weapon down the stretch, keeping the taller Rawlings out of punching range for all but a few successful strikes. Sherdog Scores Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Torres Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Torres Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Torres Round 2 Rawlings sprints out of her corner and charges Torres at the start of the round, but Torres stays out of danger and lands a few body kicks off her back foot.

BJJ: Ward off the over-under guard pass with a sweep by @gallerr

One of the favorite guard passes of top players, the over-under consists of sinking one of your foe's legs and hugging the other, and, without the knee on the ground, leaving them pretty uncomfortable until you achieve the pass. This is one of the favorite passes of world champion Bernardo Faria, who invited his pal Diego Gamonal to teach a counter to it. BTT's Gamonal teaches a sweep to avert the over-under.

Anderson Silva: 5 Defining Moments

From the second he set foot inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship , Anderson Silva was a game-changer; and those unfamiliar with his exploits soon became aware of them. Silva had already captured titles in Shooto and Cage Rage and beaten the likes of Roan Carneiro , Hayato Sakurai , Carlos Newton , Lee Murray and Jeremy Horn by the time he reached the Octagon at the age of 31 in June 2006. He was immediately hailed as a “different kind of striker” by UFC analyst Joe Rogan, and those words proved prophetic if not understated. Silva went on to capture the middleweight championship in his second UFC appearance and enjoyed a historic stay atop the 185-pound weight class. He has banked 13 post-fight performance bonuses and set countless records, including those for most consecutive victories (16), most title defenses (10), most knockdowns landed (18) and longest title reign (2,457 days). Silva remains active -- he will meet Derek Brunson in the UFC 208 co-main event on Feb. 11 -- as he approaches his 42nd birthday, even though Father Time has grown less and less kind to him.

Iman Barlow Motivated for Las Vegas Debut at Lion Fight 34

One of the world’s best muay Thai fighters will be on full display in the fight capital of the world Friday night, but most people involved in the realm of combat sports don’t even know her name. No, she’s not a female fighter named Holly Holm, Miesha Tate or Ronda Rousey. Not quite. Her name is Iman Barlow, and she is making her Las Vegas debut in one of the featured fights at Lion Fight 34. It’s only a matter of time before the fight world learns her name. At just 23 years old, Barlow has achieved a lifetime of accomplishments in muay Thai. She’s amassed an overall record of 85-5-3 with 35 KOs and has already snatched up multiple world titles in both the amateur and professional ranks. During the last three years, she captured an Enfusion world championship and has defended that crown four times. Last September at Lion Fight 31 the dominated Jeri Sitzes to win the promotion’s super bantamweight belt, the same strap she’ll be defending against old rival Meryem Uslu. The two fought back in 2011 in Barlow’s homeland of England and Barlow came out on top. She’s been on an absolutely tear since then, and she doesn’t intends on slowing down anytime soon.

Sherdog.com’s WMMA Pound-for-Pound Top 10

In less than 14 months, Valentina Shevchenko has put herself on the map among the pound-for-pound elite, and now she's headed for an Ultimate Fighting Championship title shot. Shevchenko pulled out a sweet second-round armbar to tap fellow pound-for-pound entrant Julianna Pena in the UFC on Fox 23 main event on Jan. 28 in Denver. “Bullet” is now 3-1 since entering the UFC in December 2015, with increasingly impressive wins over Sarah Kaufman , Holly Holm and now Pena. With her latest conquest, she rises to No. 4 in these rankings. More importantly, her win over Pena sets up a rematch with the only woman to beat her in the Octagon: UFC women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, our No. 2-ranked pound-for-pound fighter. The Ronda Rousey era is over, and she's gone from this list; The Nunes-Shevchenko rivalry may be what takes the women's bantamweight division into its next great era. Another era could be over soon, too. Our third-ranked entrant, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, has been a staple of this list since its launch. However, in spite of her lofty status, she was flagged for a banned substance in an out-of-competition test by the U.
