Nate Diaz ‘Sick of Not Fighting, Says Tyron Woodley ‘Is My Best Option’ for UFC Return

If Nate Diaz is going to return to the UFC this year, it’s looking more and more likely that Tyron Woodley will be his next opponent. The Stockton, Calif., native admitted to on Wednesday that he has grown tired of sitting on the sidelines and that a welterweight title bout with Woodley is the “best option” for his next Octagon appearance. Diaz hasn’t fought since losing a majority decision to Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in August 2016. "I'm getting to the point where I'm sick of not fighting. I'm not getting any younger," Diaz told ESPN. "I put that tweet out saying I wanted to fight in May or June, but I didn't say who because I was weighing my options. And now, Woodley is my best option. "I see him on TMZ every week, talking about me. I'm like, 'What the f---? If that's what you want to do.' It's not really my weight class, but I'm with it. I think it's my title we're fighting for. If he's the one calling me out, whose title are we fighting for? Who's the real champion here?" On Tuesday, Woodley said that the promotion had already offered Diaz the fight .

5 Things You Might Not Know About Curtis Blaydes

Curtis Blaydes intends to earn respect and climb the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight rankings when he takes on Mark Hunt in the UFC 221 co-main event on Saturday in Perth, Australia. The encounter with the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix winner will serve as a measuring stick for Blaydes, who finds himself paired with a seasoned veteran who has gone toe-to-toe with some of the best heavyweights in the sport, from Mirko Filipovic , Fabricio Werdum and Junior dos Santos to Frank Mir , Alistair Overeem , Fedor Emelianenko and Brock Lesnar . As Blaydes prepares to battle Hunt, here are five things you might not know about him: 1. He was once unbeatable. Blaydes was an accomplished high school wrestler at the De La Salle Institute in Chicago, winning a state championship as a senior. Blaydes went undefeated along the way, posting a 44-0 record, and also played football for the Illinois high school. 2. MMA drew him away from wrestling. After an outstanding prep career, Blaydes accepted a scholarship to wrestle at Northern Illinois University, where he went 19-2 as a redshirt freshman before transferring to Harper College in Palatine, Illinois.

Rafael dos Anjos Rips Tyron Woodley for Discussing Fight ‘That Makes No Sense’

It should come as no surprise that Rafael dos Anjos didn’t respond well to the news that the UFC was in discussion to book Tyron Woodley vs. Nate Diaz this summer. Woodley told on Tuesday that the UFC has “offered” Diaz the fight and that “If I had to bet the house on it, that’s my next opponent.” That prompted dos Anjos to criticize the reigning welterweight champion on social media. [Tyron Woodley] man up and stop talking about [a] fight that makes no sense,” dos Anjos wrote on Twitter. “Everyone knows that I’m the real contender. You want to fight a guy that has never beat a real welterweight in his life.” Shame on you…” @TWooodley man up and stop talk about fight that make no sense, everyone know that I'm the real contender. Carbajal: What’s Up with Mario Yamasaki?

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Mario Yamasaki ’s reputation as an official precedes him, and not in a good way. When a referee’s name becomes a trending topic after an Ultimate Fighting Championship event, it is almost never painted in a positive light. Valentina Shevchenko made a statement in the UFC Fight Night 125 co-main event on Saturday in Belem, Brazil, as she touched down in the women’s flyweight division and thoroughly dominated organizational newcomer Priscila Cachoeira . Many believed the previously unbeaten Cachoeira absorbed far more damage than she should have under Yamasaki’s watch. This is not the first time the well-known referee has had fans questioning his commitment to his craft. If you remember, at UFC 52, Matt Hughes took a direct shot to the groin from Frank Trigg , grimaced and looked in Yamasaki’s direction for assistance. When Yamasaki did not intervene, Hughes was forced to cover up and defend himself until adrenaline kicked in and allowed him to fend off Trigg.

Stinton: A Blueprint to Unionize

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * I know it may be hard to believe, but the biggest story in the MMA world had little -- though not nothing -- to do with UFC Fight Night 125 on Saturday in Belem, Brazil. It sounds strange, since apparently the event was important enough to justify a 15-hour run time, or at least that’s how it felt. However, as good as it felt to see Lyoto Machida snap a three-fight losing streak in front of a supportive crowd of countrymen, a more pressing development was going on behind the scenes. It was announced that heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will fight light heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier in the UFC 226 headliner in July. That alone is big news. This is the first champion-versus-champion match in Ultimate Fighting Championship history to take place above welterweight, and it’s a genuinely compelling clash on its own.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night 125

Rarely has there been such a glaring and unsettling skill discrepancy in the modern Ultimate Fighting Championship . Former bantamweight title contender Valentina Shevchenko was ruthless and clinical in her debut at 125 pounds, as she annihilated Parana Vale Tudo prospect Priscila Cachoeira in the UFC Fight Night 125 co-main event on Saturday at Guilherme Paraense Arena in Belem, Brazil. Cachoeira tapped to a rear-naked choke 4:25 into the second round, this after being drawn and quartered for the better part of nine minutes. The FightMetric statistics defy belief. Shevchenko connected on 84 percent of the significant strikes she attempted and outlanded the previously unbeaten Brazilian by a startling 230-3 margin in total strikes. It was a flawless performance if there ever was one. Shevchenko did the vast majority of her damage on the ground, where she punished Cachoeira with punches and elbows, one of which drew blood -- and copious amounts of it -- in the first round. In the aftermath of UFC Fight Night “Machida vs.

UFC Fight Night 125: By the Numbers

Lyoto Machida did just enough to send the Brazilian fans home happy. “The Dragon” edged Eryk Anders via split decision in the UFC Fight Night 125 main event in Belem, Brazil, on Saturday, ending a three-fight skid for the former light heavyweight champion. While scorecards in the middleweight bout will certainly be up for debate, there is plenty elsewhere to examine as well. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 125, with statistics courtesy of Related » UFC Belem Round-by-Round Scoring 12: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 15 tracked by , that awarded the main event to Anders. Only three saw the fight in favor of Machida. 30: Significant strikes by which Machida outlanded Anders in the five-round contest. “The Dragon” outlanded his foe 15 to 2 in round one, 14 to 6 in round two, 10 to 9 in round three, 10 to 6 in round four and 13 to 9 in round five. 21: Significant leg strikes landed by Machida. By comparison, Anders landed just one. 23: Significant body strikes for Machida; Anders landed 13.

Lyoto Machida Turns Back Clock, Edges Eryk Anders in UFC Fight Night 125 Main Event

The tried-and-true tactics Lyoto Machida has used throughout his Ultimate Fighting Championship career served him well once more. Pinpoint straight left hands, kicks to the body and leg and incessant circular movement carried Machida to a split decision over former Legacy Fighting Alliance titleholder Eryk Anders in the UFC Fight Night 125 headliner on Saturday at Guilherme Paraense Arena in Belem, Brazil. Scores were 48-47 and 49-46 for Machida, 48-47 for Anders. Machida (23-8, 15-8 UFC) knocked down the onetime University of Alabama linebacker with a leg kick in the first round and continued to attack his lower extremities as the fight drifted into deeper water. Anders landed the most significant blow of the fight in Round 3, where he opened a vertical gash in between the Brazilian’s eyes with a perfectly timed knee strike along the fence. Blood poured from the wound but did not overtly impact Machida. Anders (10-1, 2-1 UFC) tried to build on his success in the fourth round, as he backed up Machida with probing left hands and executed a takedown in the final minute.
