Yoel Romero Mockingly Creates GoFundMe Page for Michael Bisping’s Medical Expenses
Score this round of pre-fight warfare for Yoel
Romero .
Michael
Bisping is generally one of the best in the sport when it comes
to trash talk, but Romero on Wednesday fired a pretty good shot of
his own in the direction of the middleweight champion. Romero, who
is likely the next opponent for Bisping, created a mock GoFundMe
page for any future medical expenses the Englishman might incur
after their as-yet-to-be-announced bout. On the page is a picture
of a battered Bisping following his first title defense, a decision
triumph over Dan
Henderson at UFC 204 this past October.
“This is Mike, he will be needing money to survive after me and him
meet in the octagon approximately May of 2017. He is happy in this
picture after defending his title against another fighter and the
devastation he went through has caused him to have surgery on his
knee where all the visible damage was on his face,” Romero wrote.
“This surgery has prevented him from competing in a timely manner.
After his fight with me, I am convinced he will need this money to
rebuild his life, he has a family and I am deeply concerned for
him.

The newly forged
Legacy Fighting Alliance organization has started the process
of filling its vacancies. Next up: the featherweight
championship.
Kevin
Aguilar and UFC veteran Damon
Jackson will battle over the inaugural LFA featherweight crown
in the Legacy
Fighting Alliance 4 main event on Feb. 17 at the Horseshoe
Casino and Hotel in Bossier City, Louisiana. Aguilar was the
reigning
Legacy Fighting Championship titleholder at 145 pounds when the
promotion merged with the
Resurrection Fighting Alliance .
Momentum from a three-fight winning streak has propelled Aguilar to
the top of the regional circuit. The 28-year-old has delivered 10
of his 11 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or
submission. Aguilar last fought at Legacy 57 on July 1, when he
walked away with a five-round split decision over Tony Kelley
at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Shreveport, Louisiana.

James Gallagher: Carrying the Irish Tricolor
Anthony
Taylor was a relative unknown when he landed in Dublin ahead of
his Bellator 169 meeting with 20-year-old
SBG Ireland prospect James
Gallagher . Although the inexperienced American brought some
interest to the bout by labeling the John
Kavanagh protégé “a little boy,” it was a comment he made at
the event’s pre-fight press conference that really struck a chord
with the Irish masses.
“You’re not even Irish,” Taylor said, firing his words in
Gallagher’s direction before murmurs broke out in the assembly at
the Gibson Hotel. “Why are you talking about being Irish? You’re
British.”
Gallagher’s father was quick to respond from the crowd: “You’re out
of line, Anthony.”
Although he seemed to enjoy the exchange, Muhammed
Lawal gestured for the gathering to calm down after the
comment. Chris
Fields then advised “King Mo” to tell his countryman to quiet
down given the inflammatory nature of his words. Later, on the
advice of A.J. McKee ,
Taylor apologized to Gallagher.
Given the amount of bloodshed due to sectarian violence in Northern
Ireland during “The Troubles” -- a war between unionists and
nationalists that was waged over the constitutional status of
Northern Ireland from the late 1960s until 1998 -- issues
concerning flags, political status and religion have to be
approached sensitively.

Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza: Know Your Enemy
(SPONSORED CONTENT) -- In this exclusive interview
presented by “ Halo Wars 2 ,” Ronaldo
“Jacare” Souza discusses fight preparation, his forthcoming
battle with Tim Boetsch
and his wait for a crack at
Ultimate Fighting Championship gold.
The former Strikeforce
champion will try to nail down an elusive title shot in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC
208 on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
“Jacare” has rattled off nine wins across his past 10 appearances,
a split decision defeat to Yoel Romero
his only setback. The 37-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt
last competed at UFC 198 on May 14, when he stopped Vitor
Belfort with first-round punches.
In this exclusive interview with Sherdog.com, Souza discusses fight
preparation, his forthcoming battle with Boetsch and his wait for a
crack at UFC gold:
Sherdog.com: How do you prepare for a fight?
Souza: The first thing I do is I make sure that I am happy. If I’m
happy, mentally I am there, both in practice and in the fight; and
I always train very hard with everything I do: striking,
conditioning and, of course, my jiu-jitsu.

The Bottom Line: Fool’s Gold
Since the
Ultimate Fighting Championship became the unquestioned top
promotion in mixed martial arts a little over a decade ago, it has
received sporadic criticism over its booking of championships. Fans
and journalists have lamented fighters receiving unearned title
shots, and some feel the overabundance of championships has watered
down the meaning of individual titles; others feel the more
divisions, the better. More recently, there has been backlash
against the preponderance of unnecessary interim titles created
when the regular champion is healthy and ready to defend.
At the heart of the frustration over some of these moves is the
fact that UFC titles do have meaning. They have on balance
been protected well and fans accept them as defining the best
fighters in each division. Fans don’t want the titles to just be
trinkets used as gimmicks to sell fights like they have been for
other combat organizations over the years. Boxing’s sanctioning
bodies make ridiculous, unjustifiable decisions regarding their
titles seemingly every week, but they are greeted with a collective
shrug from boxing fans because they don’t put any real stock in
those once prestigious accessories.

Daniel Omielanczuk Accepts Finding of No Fault from USADA for Positive Meldonium Test
UFC heavyweight Daniel
Omielanczuk won’t face suspension from USADA for a positive
meldonium test that occurred last year.
The organization recently announced that Omielanczuk accepted a
finding of no fault after testing positive for the banned substance
in a urine sample provided on Jan. 21, 2016. Meldonium is listed in
the category of hormone and metabolic modulators and is prohibited
under the UFC’s anti-doping policy.
However, meldonium was not added to the banned list until 2016, and
Omielanczuk was able to prove that he ingested the substance before
that time.
“During USADA’s investigation of the case, Omielanczuk presented
evidence establishing that his use of meldonium was limited to a
three-week span, from mid-August to early September 2015.
Omielanczuk and his advisors confirmed that Omielanczuk did not
resume his use of the substance after September 2015 because they
became aware that the substance would be added to the WADA
Prohibited List in 2016, and subsequently banned under the UFC
Anti-Doping Program,” the statement read.

Justin Willis Replaces Henrique, Faces Marcin Tybura at UFC 208 in Brooklyn
Justin
Willis has replaced the injured
Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira and will face Marcin
Tybura on short notice at UFC
208 .
UFC officials confirmed the new heavyweight pairing on Tuesday. UFC
208 takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and features a
showdown between Holly Holm
and Germaine
de Randamie for the inaugural women’s featherweight title.
Tybura vs. Willis is set for the UFC Fight Pass-streamed portion of
the preliminary card and finalizes the 12-bout lineup.
Willis has won four straight fights since losing his professional
debut in June 2012. Most recently, the San Jose, Calif., native
earned a second-round TKO triumph over Juliano
Coutinho at World Series of Fighting 31 this past June.
Tybura dropped his Octagon debut against Timothy
Johnson , but rebounded in his sophomore appearance when he
knocked out Viktor

Derek Brunson Admits to Being ‘Greedy’ in Last Loss, Compares Anderson Silva to Uriah Hall
Derek
Brunson had reason to be confident heading into his matchup
with Robert
Whittaker at UFC Fight Night 101.
After all, the Jackson-Wink MMA product had won his last five
fights, including four by knockout or technical knockout inside of
a round. However, Brunson looked downright reckless this past
November, leading with his chin while winging power punches at his
Australian opponent. That proved to be his downfall, as Whittaker
wobbled him with a left hook, landed a head kick and then drove
Brunson to the canvas to finish with a barrage of punches 4:07 into
the first round.
Now, Brunson faces Anderson
Silva at UFC
208 , an adversary regarded as one of the most dangerous
strikers of all time. That said, Brunson isn’t necessarily
conceding that he will adopt a more conservative approach against
“The Spider” on Saturday night.
“I wouldn’t call it reckless. I would say greedy,” Brunson said of
his last Octagon appearance. “I would say pretty much I just pretty
much fell in love with trying to knock people out really quickly
instead of letting the fight develop.

Instant Replay Approved As Part Of New MMA Rules In 2017
Due to the complexities involved in the sport of MMA, the referee may only use Instant Replay when he/she feels that a “Fight Ending Sequence” was possibly caused by an illegal action (foul) whether intentional or unintentional. At such a time the referee and only the referee may call for a review of the last moments of the fight. Once reviewing the replay the referee can either confirm or dispel whether a foul was committed that brought about the fight ending sequence and take the appropriate actions from there.

Holly Holm Believes Depth in Women’s Featherweight Division Can Be Built ‘In No Time’
It’s no secret that the Ultimate Fighting Championship introduced
the women’s featherweight division with Cristiane
Justino , the top female 145-pound talent in the world, in
mind.
But when “Cyborg” turned down a couple of title fights and then
failed a drug test last year, the Las Vegas-based promotion had to
look somewhere else in order to produce an inaugural 145-pound
champion. With Justino out of action for the foreseeable future,
Holly
Holm and Germaine
de Randamie were more than happy to square off with
featherweight gold on the line at UFC
208 .
While Saturday’s championship headliner has its critics, namely
because neither woman has 145-pound experience and because the
division doesn’t appear to currently have much depth, Holm would
like to point out that the UFC began the bantamweight division on
the back of one big star. And that turned out pretty well.
“Here’s the thing -- each division has to start somewhere. And when
they first started 135-pound division it was a title fight with
Ronda coming over. It built from there,” Holm said during a recent
conference call.
