UFC's Ronda Rousey in 2015 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue

"The media directed at men with women is what women pay attention to the most," the undefeated MMA fighter and former Olympic judo medalist told FTW. "When it came to what standard I gave myself growing up and what I thought that I should look like, I was looking at the women that I could see the men I wanted found attractive. I thought if this is what the guys I like like, then I should look like that. The ‘Sports Illustrated' Swimsuit Issue wasn't like ‘Playboy' or all those others. It wasn't so fake and plastic."

Garry Tonon Submits UFC Veteran Javier Vazquez at Gracie Nationals 2015

Garry Tonon tapped out UFC veteran Javier Vazquez at Gracie Nationals 2015. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com It was the proverbial passing of the torch in the main event of the Gracie Nationals 2015 as Garry Tonon submitted Javier Vazquez in their no-gi match with a superb triangle choke. Tonon, a black belt in jiu-jitsu under Tom DeBlass , has been tearing apart the grappling world these past few years and is among the elite of the newer breed of submission artist. He is coming off submission wins in both Metamoris and Polaris, but today on the mats of the LA Fitness Expo in the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Brunswick BJJ fighter took his first major step toward greatness with his victory over “Showtime.” The two wasted little time in getting down to business, but Tonon was more aggressive early on. Vazquez defended everything his younger opponent threw at him, but the former World Extreme Cagefighting , Shooto and Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran couldn’t get into the sort of rhythm he coveted. Tonon, the heavier of the two at 170 pounds, eventually opened up his arsenal fully and continuously shifted from high to low attacks, leaving Vazquez vulnerable.

Glory 19: Why Karate Doesn't Work in the Ring | FIGHTLAND

Holzken took the decision, and Daniels versus Holzken was set for the final. It was the fight everyone expected and it seemd as though we were in for fireworks. But the bout demonstrated a point that I've spoken about before, though not at much length. Traditional style karate (rather than Kyokushin and its off-shoots, which are much more closely related to kickboxing) / Taekwondo—side on stance, lots of movement—doesn't work half as well in the ring as it does in the cage or on a big, open mat.

Pending a vote by NAC officials on February 17th, the bout is likely to be turned into a no contest.

On the Brink: Neil Magny at Fight Night 60 | FIGHTLAND

People like to talk about the hectic fight schedule of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, and rightly so. The dude scraps a lot —four times in 2014 alone, to be exact. Then there was his famous stretch of two fights in two weeks back in January of this year, which is about as busy as it gets. The thing is, Cowboy isn’t the only fighter on the UFC roster with a jam-packed calendar of competition. In the division above his lightweight home, for example, there’s Neil Magny, whose rapid fire fight schedule has garnered a little less attention, but is no less impressive.

Georges St-Pierre: Recent PED busts are ‘just the tip of the iceberg’

In light of the recent news that Anderson Silva popped hot for steroids in an out-of-competition test a month before his fight with Nick Diaz , the sport’s staunchest critic on PED use in the UFC isn’t exactly saying I told you so. Longtime UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre decided to cede his title and, at least temporarily, walk away from the sport last December after defending his title against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 . Citing stress and mental exhaustion as the key reasons, St-Pierre grew disenchanted by what he considered a rampant drug problem in the sport. He made it clear that he would only be interested in coming back if attempts were made to clean the sport up. Thirteen months later, out-of-competition testing is beginning to prove his theory right. Silva was latest casualty of a random drug bust, and perhaps the most shocking. Silva defended the middleweight title a record 10 times, and had been vocal himself about PEDs being a detriment to the sport. As we await Silva’s B sample to be tested, it was learned that Jon Fitch -- whom St-Pierre defeated at UFC 87 in 2008 -- failed a drug test for his fight with Rousimar Palhares .

20-Year-Old UFC Strawweight Paige VanZant Going to Prove She’s 'Not Just a Pretty Face' | MMAWeekly.com

Come on guys! Paige is pretty hot, but NOT in the facial area! It’s by no means Lucia Rijker ugly by any stretch, but dang, I can think of a few prettier faces in WMMA…..Tate, Carano, even the waterheaded Rousey has a prettier face. Her face is average So-Cal tweener. Trust my old man vision…she has reached “peak hottness” and is at the beginning of her downfall in looks. "I thought the fight was over," Kennedy said. "Talk about a huge mistake. That's on me. Yes, John messed up. Yes, the corners cheated. Yes, Romero cheated. Yes, they all knew what they were doing and it was completely against the rules every which way. But first and foremost, I have to look at myself as an athlete. I messed up. I should have stayed there. I should have been cerebral enough to be cognitively aware that this fight could still be going on."

Bigfoot Silva blames Dr. Marcio Tannure for Anderson Silva's doping

"Anderson has fought since he was 17, during his long career he has never had a problem with doping. Unfortunately, this happened when he was returning from a long and intense healing process. I'm absolutely positive that he isn't guilty of anything. He must have done something at his doctor's suggestion. Anderson was a victim. I think that people from NSAC should verify this. It's not the first time for this doctor (Tannure). NSAC should be aware of how fighters are and who is causing these problems."

Benson Henderson expects 'smooth,' nonpermanent transition to welterweight

“One of the cons is I’ll definitely be losing a little bit of strength and a little bit of size,” Henderson said. “On the pro side, we’re hoping, the idea is we gain a little speed, a little bit of quickness, a little bit of agility, a little bit of athleticism. Also, cardio is king. The bigger size of the weight class, guys are going to get tired a little bit quicker. They get tired to where they eventually can’t even keep their hands up in the fourth and fifth round.”

Penn to 'coward' Jon Fitch: I 'did it on beer and hotdogs'

While never quite a rivalry, BJ Penn and Jon Fitch have had something to go back and forth about for a while. Ever since a 2011 bout between the two men was ruled a controversial draw, after a surging Fitch took a 10-8 3rd round from a rapidly fading Penn. For a while after that bout, Fitch was campaigning for another shot, he never got it. Instead, Penn entertained thoughts of booking a fight with Carlos Condit ,  a move which Fitch said "broke my heart," adding that he thought Penn was "a man of principal."
