Rafael dos Anjos Rips Tyron Woodley for Discussing Fight ‘That Makes No Sense’

It should come as no surprise that Rafael dos Anjos didn’t respond well to the news that the UFC was in discussion to book Tyron Woodley vs. Nate Diaz this summer. Woodley told on Tuesday that the UFC has “offered” Diaz the fight and that “If I had to bet the house on it, that’s my next opponent.” That prompted dos Anjos to criticize the reigning welterweight champion on social media. [Tyron Woodley] man up and stop talking about [a] fight that makes no sense,” dos Anjos wrote on Twitter. “Everyone knows that I’m the real contender. You want to fight a guy that has never beat a real welterweight in his life.” Shame on you…” @TWooodley man up and stop talk about fight that make no sense, everyone know that I'm the real contender. You want to fight a guy that has never beat a real welterweight in his whole life. Shame on you... — Rafael dos Anjos (@RdosAnjosMMA) February 7, 2018 Dos Anjos, the former lightweight champion, moved up to 170 pounds last year and posted victories over Tarec Saffiedine , Neil Magny and Robbie Lawler .

5 Things You Might Not Know About Jussier da Silva

Life in the Ultimate Fighting Championship has provided an equal amount of ups and downs for Jussier da Silva , a man long viewed as one of the top flyweights in the sport. Da Silva’s record with the promotion sits at 6-4, and recent losses to Henry Cejudo and Ray Borg have made it difficult for the Brazilian to find favor in the 125-pound rankings. If “Formiga” wants to get in position to challenge for the flyweight title, he will need to get back on track against Ben Nguyen in a featured prelim on Saturday at UFC 221 in Perth, Australia. As da Silva approaches his three-round battle with Nguyen, here are five things you might not know about him: 1. He made a natural progression through the MMA ranks. Before he gained a foothold in North America through his exploits in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, da Silva established himself as one of South America’s top fighters with wins over Jose Maria Tome , Alexandre Pantoja and others. In November 2008, he captured the Shooto South American championship -- a title he never lost. 2. Hostile territory does not rattle him.

Carbajal: What’s Up with Mario Yamasaki?

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Mario Yamasaki ’s reputation as an official precedes him, and not in a good way. When a referee’s name becomes a trending topic after an Ultimate Fighting Championship event, it is almost never painted in a positive light. Valentina Shevchenko made a statement in the UFC Fight Night 125 co-main event on Saturday in Belem, Brazil, as she touched down in the women’s flyweight division and thoroughly dominated organizational newcomer Priscila Cachoeira . Many believed the previously unbeaten Cachoeira absorbed far more damage than she should have under Yamasaki’s watch. This is not the first time the well-known referee has had fans questioning his commitment to his craft. If you remember, at UFC 52, Matt Hughes took a direct shot to the groin from Frank Trigg , grimaced and looked in Yamasaki’s direction for assistance. When Yamasaki did not intervene, Hughes was forced to cover up and defend himself until adrenaline kicked in and allowed him to fend off Trigg.

Nate Diaz ‘Sick of Not Fighting, Says Tyron Woodley ‘Is My Best Option’ for UFC Return

If Nate Diaz is going to return to the UFC this year, it’s looking more and more likely that Tyron Woodley will be his next opponent. The Stockton, Calif., native admitted to on Wednesday that he has grown tired of sitting on the sidelines and that a welterweight title bout with Woodley is the “best option” for his next Octagon appearance. Diaz hasn’t fought since losing a majority decision to Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in August 2016. "I'm getting to the point where I'm sick of not fighting. I'm not getting any younger," Diaz told ESPN. "I put that tweet out saying I wanted to fight in May or June, but I didn't say who because I was weighing my options. And now, Woodley is my best option. "I see him on TMZ every week, talking about me. I'm like, 'What the f---? If that's what you want to do.' It's not really my weight class, but I'm with it. I think it's my title we're fighting for. If he's the one calling me out, whose title are we fighting for? Who's the real champion here?" On Tuesday, Woodley said that the promotion had already offered Diaz the fight .

Joshua Burkman vs. Alex Morono Added to UFC Fight Night 126 Lineup in Austin

A welterweight duel pitting Joshua Burkman against Alex Morono has been added to the UFC Fight Night 126 bill. The promotion recently confirmed the pairing. UFC Fight Night 126 takes place at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 18 and is headlined by a 170-pound tilt between Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros . Burkman vs. Morono will serve as the first preliminary bout on UFC Fight Pass, which begins at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 PT. Burkman enters the bout on a four-fight losing streak. “The People’s Warrior” last appeared at UFC 214, where he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Drew Dober . Burkman has also fallen to Michel Prazeres , Zak Ottow and Paul Felder during his current skid. Morono last appeared at UFC Fight Night 117, where he dropped a split decision against Keita Nakamura . “The Great White” owns a 13-4 career mark that includes triumphs over James Moontasri and Kyle Noke in the UFC.

Alexander Volkanovski Eyeing Ranked Opponent with a Victory at UFC 221

Emerging Australian Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight fighter Alexander Volkanovski is confident that a victory over Jeremy Kennedy this weekend at UFC 221 in Perth, Australia, will put him in a good position to land a ranked opponent in his next fight inside the Octagon. This isn’t the first time the Aussie and Canadian have been scheduled to square off, as the pair initially agreed to face each other on the “Werdum vs. Tybura” card last November. Unfortunately, Kennedy pulled out due to injury and then his replacement Humberto Bandenay also succumbed to injury. The UFC offered Volkanovski a bout with Drex Zamboanga , who was then unable to obtain a visa in time for the fight. Volkanovski (16-1) is on a 13-fight win streak dating back to May 2013. In Sydney last year, he beat Shane Young over three rounds to claim his third UFC victory in a row. Volkanovski was interviewed by Bloody Elbow about the fight with Kennedy: “[The] UFC wanted to make that happen,” he said. “We’re both 3-0 in the UFC.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Curtis Blaydes

Curtis Blaydes intends to earn respect and climb the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight rankings when he takes on Mark Hunt in the UFC 221 co-main event on Saturday in Perth, Australia. The encounter with the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix winner will serve as a measuring stick for Blaydes, who finds himself paired with a seasoned veteran who has gone toe-to-toe with some of the best heavyweights in the sport, from Mirko Filipovic , Fabricio Werdum and Junior dos Santos to Frank Mir , Alistair Overeem , Fedor Emelianenko and Brock Lesnar . As Blaydes prepares to battle Hunt, here are five things you might not know about him: 1. He was once unbeatable. Blaydes was an accomplished high school wrestler at the De La Salle Institute in Chicago, winning a state championship as a senior. Blaydes went undefeated along the way, posting a 44-0 record, and also played football for the Illinois high school. 2. MMA drew him away from wrestling. After an outstanding prep career, Blaydes accepted a scholarship to wrestle at Northern Illinois University, where he went 19-2 as a redshirt freshman before transferring to Harper College in Palatine, Illinois.
