Skinny Fat Dilemma

Comment: Skinny fat definition: your weight is "normal" or low but your body fat % is high and muscle mass % low. You might have a fast metabolism but it seems like your food goes straight through and doesn't stick to your frame as lean muscle. If it does stick to you it usually turns into a muffin top or a double chin. Skinny fat individuals tend to be relatively weak. No wonder since their muscle mass is small.

6 Diamondbacks Tap Into Fatty Market, Introduce 18-inch Corn Dog Stuffed With Bacon and Cheese,

The Arizona Diamondbacks have courageously unveiled the “D-bat dog,” which is apparently an 18-inch corn dog stuffed with cheese and bacon. And since that’s clearly not enough to fulfill your unsettling gorging habits, the lengthy frank comes with a side of fries so as to cement the inevitable sea of embarrassment when you waddle back to your seat.

The most recent, a unanimous decision over Jorge Masvidal, was Fight of the Night at UFC Fight for the Troops 3 in Kentucky.

Fighting Life

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. -- The most potent, stinging combination in fighting is a one-two: the words “it’s over.” Real fighters never want to hear it. They refuse to believe it. It asks them to leave behind their first and perhaps greatest love. If sleep is the cousin of death, it follows that the family would also include retirement -- another form of unconsciousness from which a fighter may never wake. Mark Miller has been parrying that one-two combination for the last seven years. “I know I sound like every other fighter ever, but I was doing things I hadn’t done in a while,” said Miller, sitting inside a bright, modern sushi restaurant. “Being someone who is in tune with my body and in tune with myself, I was really excited.” Back in 2005, the K-1 kickboxer amassed a 1-2 mixed martial arts record in Podunk fights on the Ohio circuit; the lone victory was omitted by Sherdog’s Fight Finder, according to Miller. He had been training MMA at Miletich Fighting Systems in Iowa prior to finding out about his congenital heart defect in 2006.

Herb Dean explains controversial UFC 169 and UFC 170 stoppages

"He was taking big shots, he had been hurt badly, but sometimes subtle things you look at," Dean said. "The fact that when Barao was doing his thing where he was looking up at me, he was actually taking his posture off Urijah a little, so that made me want to check in with Urijah. He's taking his posture off [Faber] and he's not responding to that. So what I did, that's something that like, it's a tool which has been very helpful over the years, I tell the fighters to fight back, show me something, and based on their response, that's how I make my decisions.

Joe Rogan defends his comments at UFC 171

“Picking Rory over the other contenders to challenge for the title next was another complaint.  The production had a list of fighters that are listed in the top contenders that they wanted me to pick one guy to challenge the title after the end of the event.  It’s only my opinion and it certainly doesn’t mean that fighter will get the next shot.  The reason I went with Rory is what I stated:  I thought Woodley looked awesome, but the reality is Carlos blew his knee out on the take down and then it gave out when Tyron kicked him.  Tyron was really impressive in the opening of the 1st with his insane speed and ability to close the distance and I would LOVE to see him fight anyone.  For the title or not.  The guy is a stud.  It was just my opinion given the information in front of me after that event that if I had to choose  one guy I would have to go wih Rory.

Great MMA Debate podcast: Dan Henderson will decide future after Shogun fight

Henderson will be allowed to use TRT for his upcoming fight against Rua, but that will be the last time he'll be granted an exemption if competing in Brazil or if he goes back to fight in Las Vegas at a later date.  Some athletes, including Henderson's former teammate Chael Sonnen, have said that not having TRT could bring on early retirement for the fighter that really needed the controversial treatment.

Jeff Aronson says April 25th earmarked for next Titan FC event

On February 28th, Titan FC had it's first event under new majority owner, Jeff Aronson. The card was a solid affair with good action and production value. WSOF has back-up plan if Rousimar Palhares' drug test comes back positive before WSOF 9

According to Abdel-Aziz, the promotion expects to know of the results on March 28, 2014, the day before WSOF 9 is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, Nev. Obviously the timetable is not ideal, as a failed test from Palhares would immediately throw the top of the card into disarray a day out from fight night.

Another highly anticipated fight on the card is in the lightweight division, where Erik Koch will face off with Daron Cruickshank .

Video: MMA's top 10 lightweights with Anthony Pettis atop the heap

With UFC champion Anthony Pettis on the shelf till he coaches “TUF 20″ and meets Gilbert Melendez late this year, there won’t likely be any change at the top for a while. But the rest of the ranks could see some movement this spring as fighters like Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler meet in their trilogy fight at Bellator 120, and UFC standouts like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, Jim Miller and Edson Barboza all fight in April, with most trying to pick each other off.

Edson Barboza talks about the temptation of kickboxing, his kicking game, and his love of American food

Edson Barboza has found a long term home as one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC lightweight division. Already 7-1 in his three year UFC career, he's racked up a healthy highlight real of fan friendly action. As a member of Ricardo Almeida Jiu Jitsu he trains primarily out of New Jersey, alongside Frankie Edgar . Barboza sat down for a brief Q&A with Carnevale and others at the Warrior Retreat to answer questions about his fighting style, interest in returning to kickboxing and Muay Thai, favorite super hero (it's The Flash), and his love of American food, most particularly breakfast.

In addition, they must be legally able to live and work in the United States and have a verifiable winning professional MMA record.

New footage of EA Sports UFC video game released

Now, in the strictest sense of the term "gameplay footage", this is the rawest "work in progress" form you're seeing. The presentation, the camera angles, etc. are not what you're going to experience once this game is released. However, it's more simulation of the fights themselves than you've seen in the past, and I have to say I'm impressed with what they've shown thus far. The UFC struck a deal with EA Sports to create their video games after THQ handled the previous "Undisputed" era from 2009-2012.

NSAC tests WSOF 9 headliner Rousimar Palhares, but results may not be ready until after event

Palhares is the second fighter this year to be randomly tested by the commission. This past month, UFC contender Vitor Belfort received one while attending the 2013 World MMA Awards, but the results of the test remain confidential because the commission did not obtain a release to make them public. The commission’s confirmation of Palhares’ test indicates the release was obtained this time around.

Video of 1 second KO from WCMMA 14

The bout between these two welterweights doesn't last long, as you can imagine from a video title 1 second KO. The fight pretty much only consists of a single rear leg headkick, followed up by some super awkward dancing. As always the idea of an official time keeper stopping the clock becomes a bit hazy in these situations. UCMMA has helpfully provided their own, embedded time clock to make their claim, but it looked like it might have taken the ref another second to actually wave it off. Either way, these two fighters have earned their place on the mantel of cool stuff you show your friends.

On Sunday, “Hendo” and “Shogun” will run it back again in a rematch after Henderson’s win at UFC 139 in November 2011. The two meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night 38. While the first bout took place in Henderson’s home state of California, this one goes down in Rua’s home country at Ginasio Nelio Dias in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.

Buchinger vacates title, Ray-Warburton meet for belt at Cage Warriors 69

Anthony Pettis: I'm going to knock out Melendez, still want to shut Diaz up

“To be honest, the guy I really want to fight right now is Nate Diaz,” he said. “I think the fans want to see that one, so Nate Diaz is on the radar for sure. For me, Diaz is a good fighter. He could be one of the next guys I fight, but he’s the one that talks the most. So I want to settle it.”

Signal to Noise: UFC 171's best and worst

I've been trying to put my finger on what I liked about this fight so much. Partly it's the basic construct: two elite fighters in a bout of significance with enough time to and space, i.e. five rounds, it let the action and drama breathe. That's a necessary condition of it's greatness, but not sufficient. It was more than that. The bout was contested at close striking quarters for almost its entirety, thereby giving the audience a constant feeling of everything being on the precipice of sudden, violent change. But perhaps more than that, it was just nice to see two high-level welterweights compete in such as way that was as technical as it was blood and guts. Everything both did revolved around years of preparation and skill development, yet was exacted in this cauldron of mutually-assured destruction. This is what fighting is supposed to look like, or at least, this is a great example of what high-level fighting can look like. This is the sort of fighting that pulls in fans, creates allegiances and inspires as much loyalty as it does action.

43
UFC fighter rankings: Welterweight undergoes major shakeup

As expected, the newest set of official UFC fighter rankings featured a ton of changes in the 170-pound division. UFC 171 featured four welterweight bouts in the top six fights on the card, and all had a major effect. There were some minor changes in other divisions as well, but nothing as drastic as at 170. Oh yeah, they have a champion now too. So that helps.

44
Michael McDonald wont be fighting for the foreseeable future

One of the more difficult tasks of keeping track of active fighters in the UFC is hearing about injuries that don't happen in competition, or in preparation for an upcoming fight. If a fighter isn't pulling out of a bout, or hasn't just finished one, they most likely aren't talking about what part of their body isn't working right. Sooner or later, for a top 10 fighter and former title challenger like McDonald, people come knocking and asking questions. "When are you getting back in the cage? Why don't you have a fight announced?" Unfortunately for fans of the 23 year old California native, the answers are "I don't know," and "I'm not sure." He spoke to Fox Sports about the hand injury that's keeping him out of training and why doctor's still aren't exactly sure what's going on.

45
Pivotal Moments: Hendricks vs. Lawler part 1

Notice the difference in foot position between frames 2 and 5. In frame 2, Hendricks has the perfect angle for his kick. His right foot is just slightly to the inside of Lawler's, just enough so that he has room to open his hips and land a hard kick. In frame 5, Lawler's foot is much farther forward, deeper within Johny's stance, and Robbie's step to Johny's left has taken away the space the kick needs to generate power. And, because Robbie sits down well on his left hand, with a nice bend in the knees, Johny's kick doesn't have the desired perpendicular surface as a target. His kick just sort of bumps into the top of Lawler's knee and slides up his thigh to his hip. When Lawler's punch connects, Johny is thrown off balance and stumbles backward, while Robbie proves that he's willing to pounce on every opportunity.

Searching for Future Champions: March 2014 Update

Zani is a solid opponent for Almeida, but not really a massive step up in competition. Assuming he beats Zani (and he'll be a substantial favorite), then he should get a top prospect or solid veteran in a winner-takes-all shot at the UFC. Piraev has already beaten the accused neo-Nazi Brinsa (who was briefly signed to the UFC) once, tapping him with a triangle choke in the first round, and there's every reason to think he can do it again. I still think he could use more seasoning before getting a shot at the highest levels of competition, however. Backstrom is the darkest of dark horses, an uber-talented Swede with some really quality wins despite limited action, and the winner of his bout with Coga will likely receive a shot in the UFC for their next European outing. Coga is a good prospect in his own right, but his willingness to play off his back makes me think that Backstrom's violent and rock-solid top game will carry the day.

The run Newton has been on since his only loss in more than four years has been impressive. He dropped a split decision to Vegh in July 2012. But after that, he really put himself on the map when he upset Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal with a spinning back fist. Then he beat Mikhail Zayats to win the Season 8 205-pound tournament.
