Promotion Interested in Having Cris ‘Cyborg’ Compete at UFC 198 in Brazil

It appears that Cristiane Justino may get her wish to compete at UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil. According to a report from UFC Tonight, the Las Vegas-based promotion is exploring the possibility of having “Cyborg” fight at the May 14 event. If everything works out and the UFC is able to find a willing oppoent, Justino would likely fight at 145 or 140 pounds, but not at bantamweight. “Cyborg” recently lobbied for a spot on UFC 198 in a post on her website . “It would be an honor to return to the city I was born in, and to step inside the Octagon with an opportunity to prove myself as one of the best female fighters in the sport,” she wrote. Justino is currently the Invicta FC featherweight champion, but the Brazilian is technically under Zuffa contract, which makes her eligible to fight in the Octagon. Justino is 5-0 in Invicta and last defended her belt on Jan. 16 with a first-round knockout of Daria Ibragimova . UFC 198 takes place at the Arena de Baixada and is headlined by a heavyweight championship showdown between Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic .

16 Anderson Silva vs. Uriah Hall in Works for UFC 198 in Curitiba

A middleweight showdown pitting Anderson Silva against Uriah Hall is in the works for UFC 198 . Sources close to the situation revealed the news to on Wednesday evening. UFC 198 takes place at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil, on May 14 and is headlined by a heavyweight title clash between Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic . After a year on the sidelines due to a suspension for a failed drug test, Silva returned to action at UFC Fight Night in London, where he dropped a five-round verdict to Michael Bisping . “The Spider” has not won a fight since he stopped Stephan Bonnar in the opening stanza at UFC 153 in October 2012. Hall is coming off an active 2015 in which he won three of his five Octagon appearances. Postal Connections: Needle Movers and Shakers

It’s that time of the week again, so jump on in and check out the latest questions for the Postal Connections mailbag. The usual suspects are present again, with Conor McGregor , Nate Diaz , Jon Jones and the entire Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight division figuring prominently in the discussion: Nate Diaz is still pissed off, and I think he’s right. UFC President Dana White has said he isn’t a needle mover, and now that he goes out and beats Conor McGregor, everyone is still talking about the guy who lost. The UFC has to push Diaz more and help him get the fights that will make him a big star, too. -- 209 For Life First off, when is Diaz not pissed off? Second, I’m no Dana White mark and I don’t agree with his stance that Diaz wasn’t a needle mover prior to this epic victory, but it is in no way his fault that people continue to talk about McGregor. I liken what’s happening with the fallout from the Diaz-McGregor fight to that of the Holly Holm - Ronda Rousey upset at UFC 193. Sure, people couldn’t help but continuing to follow Rousey’s every move, but Holm garnered a whole lot of newfound coverage herself.

Thomas Almeida vs. Cody Garbrandt being targeted for UFC Fight Night 88 main event

Almeida’s impact in the UFC’s 135-pound division has been immediate. The unbeaten Brazilian signed with the promotion in 2014 and picked up a “Fight of the Night” decision victory over Tim Gorman in his UFC debut. Since then, he has three straight stoppages with a first-round TKO win over Yves Jabouin at UFC 186, a flying-knee knockout of Brad Pickett at UFC 189, and a knockout of Anthony Birchak at UFC Fight Night 77 this past November. All three of those fights were awarded “Performance of the Night” bonuses, giving him four $50,000 awards in his four UFC fights.

Anderson Silva gets hometown fight vs Uriah Hall at UFC 198

Dynamic striker Uriah Hall has a style that has long been compared to that of former middleweight champion Anderson Silva, and on May 14, "Prime Time" will face the Brazilian icon in a bout featured on the UFC 198 card at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil. In the UFC 198 main event, Fabricio Werdum defends his UFC heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic. In the co-main event, it's an All-Brazil battle as Vitor Belfort faces Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, and also featured on the card is a light heavyweight bout between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Corey Anderson. The longest reigning champion in UFC history, Anderson "The Spider" Silva ruled the middleweight division from 2006 to 2013 before losing his crown to Chris Weidman. Now looking to return to the win column after a razor-thin decision loss to Michael Bisping in a Fight of the Night battle in February, the 40-year-old will fight in his hometown of Curitiba for the first time since 2002 against New York's Hall. An Ultimate Fighter 17 finalist, the 31-year-old Hall has thrilled fans with the highlight reel moves that led him to a Performance of the Night knockout of Gegard Mousasi last September, as well as four more Octagon victories.

Ahead of 'Batman v Superman' movie, UFC fighters say it's the 'Man of Steel' all day

When the first full trailer was released, we at least got to see we’ll be in for a hero’s dose of big-screen special effects. But in some circles, the criticism started up again when we got our introduction to Jesse Eisenberg as a young Lex Luthor. And then, out of nowhere, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman appears after the trailer shows us the film’s central villain, Doomsday (and no, we don’t mean John Howard). So it’s apparently Batman vs. Superman vs. Doomsday vs. Wonder Woman.

Opinion: Tapping and the Thoughtful, Progressive Philosophy of Nate Diaz

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. MMA still finds ways to surprise me, for better and for worse, all the time. When the year started, no part of me expected this to be a serious topic of discussion: “Should Fighter X have let his or herself get choked unconscious?” Alas, the schadenfreude that goes with Conor McGregor’s defeat to Nate Diaz is irresistible. Still, we’re going on two weeks since Diaz and Miesha Tate shook up the sport’s landscape at UFC 196 -- a card which might have done 1.5 million PPV buys -- and folks are still pushing the tap-or-nap nitwittery. One week of talking about this foolishness? I’ll tolerate it. MMA went crazy for a night, “Mystic Mac” blew it, we’re in a brave new world, and in the heat of the moment, people occasionally fixate on spurious, pointless topics. Two weeks? I will not stand for this. Who taps faster Connor or Sage? — Chris Wade (@CWadeMMA) March 6, 2016 It should go without saying that the attempted emasculation of McGregor, with the implicit taunt of “Ooh, you tapped, but Holm is a girl and went to sleep like a man ,” is stupid, sexist, regressive and totally typical for MMA.

10 Questions for Alan Jouban

Alan Jouban has been a professional mixed martial artist for only five years, but the Lafayette, Louisiana, native has accomplished much in a short time. A brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Eddie Bravo, the 34-year-old fought for a Resurrection Fighting Alliance championship and has compiled a 3-2 record under the Ultimate Fighting Championship banner. Jouban will be back in action against Brendan O’Reilly at UFC Fight Night “Hunt vs. Mir” on Saturday at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia. It is essentially a must-win for Jouban, who finds himself on the rebound following a knockout loss to Albert Tumenov at UFC 192 on Oct. 3. In this exclusive interview, catches up with the Black House welterweight: O’Reilly is largely an unknown fighter. What are your thoughts on him? Jouban: Yes, he is somewhat unknown even though he’s already had a couple fights in the UFC, but I think it’s a great fight for me, to be honest. He prides himself on being an intense guy with a lot of heart.

Report: Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor II in the works for UFC 200 | UFC Fight News & Videos

Given that, many wondered if the UFC would book a rematch between the two men, however Diaz stated that there were many times in his career that he wanted a rematch and didn’t get it. With that being said, according to a report from MMAFighting , we may get to see a rematch after all.

Jon Jones was glad to see Conor McGregor lose at UFC 196

"I was getting fans messaging me saying like 'oh man how would you do against McGregor?' and I'd say to the fans 'come on guys you can't be serious?'. I'm a 220-pound, nine time world champion and you really think it would even be a match? Conor's fans really thought he could beat anyone at any weight class so I'm glad that it happened cause it allowed the fans to have that reality check like all right maybe this guy isn't invincible. Something us professional fighters knew the whole time."

Aung La N Sang Guillotines Mohamed Ali in One Championship ‘Union of Warriors’ Main Event

Aung La N Sang sent his countrymen home with smiles on their faces. The Bellator MMA , Ring of Combat and Cage Fury Fighting Championships veteran submitted Mohamed Ali with a first-round guillotine choke in the One Championship 39 “Union of Warriors” headliner on Friday at Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar. Ali (10-8) bowed out 2:38 into round one. Sang (7-9) withstood a furious uppercut-laden punching burst from the Egyptian Top Team rep and countered an ill-advised single-leg takedown with the guillotine. With no means of escape, Ali tapped to the Myanmar native’s choke, the raucous crowd roaring its approval. The 30-year-old Sang has posted back-to-back wins, both of them first-round finishes. In the co-main event, former One Championship flyweight titleholder Adriano Moraes tapped Eugene Toquero with a first-round brabo choke. Moraes (14-2) brought it to a close 4:53 into round one, as he rebounded from his split decision defeat to Kairat Akhmetov on Nov. 21 to win for the fifth time in six appearances. Toquero (8-3) nearly sprang the upset.

The signs can be different every time. Either way, the referee’s thought process and decisive action should remain the same. After all, an official is making the decision on behalf of a fighter who may need saving from themselves.

Boxing: Berto-Ortiz Rematch Set for April 30 on Fox

Premier Boxing Champions announced Thursday afternoon that a trio of intriguing matches are coming to the StubHub Center on April 30. The popular venue in Carson, Calif. will host the once-demanded but long-forgotten rematch between Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz, which will headline a PBC on Fox card in primetime. Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) was last seen in May being outpointed by Floyd Mayweather Jr., and he’s been trying to parlay that notoriety into another big showdown with one of the sport’s most recognizable names. Though Ortiz hasn’t been in the forefront of many a boxing fan’s minds, the Californian still brings excitement to the ring when he fights. It’s also a fight that Berto has coveted for five years. When the two combatants squared off in 2011, Berto was an undefeated titleholder and considered as arguably the best young welterweight in the sport. He had won the WBC 147-pound title and defended it five timew before taking on Ortiz in Connecticut. Their battle was a contender for fight of the year as both men hit the canvas twice.. Ortiz won a unanimous decision and Berto was never quite the same fighter, but a chance at redemption could turn things around for the Haitian, who has gone just 3-3 since losing to Ortiz.
