Joe Soto vs. Anthony Birchak rebooked for UFC Fight Night 68 in New Orleans

Soto, a former Bellator featherweight champion, was expected to fight Birchak at UFC 177 in his promotional debut. But on the day of the weigh-ins, former bantamweight champ Renan Barao had issues cutting weight for his title rematch with new champ T.J. Dillashaw and had to be hospitalized. With just a day’s notice, Soto went from the prelims to the main event.

Preview: UFC Fight Night ‘Maia vs. LaFlare’ - Maia vs. LaFlare

Few fighters can deal with Demian Maia’s grappling skills. | Photo: Marcelo Alonso/Sherdog.com The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Fox Sports 1 with a decent lineup of fights that has been gutted by injuries. Following an injury to Raphael Assuncao , Urijah Faber was pulled from the card and slotted into the upcoming Philippines show, leaving veteran Demian Maia to take on the relatively unknown Ryan LaFlare in the main event. The headliner should be interesting -- Maia remains a solid fighter, and LaFlare is one of the best fighters nobody is talking about -- but the name value drops off quickly after that. Josh Koscheck steps up for the injured Ben Saunders on short notice to fight one-round dynamo Erick Silva , while the rest of the lineup is full of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” competitors, prospects and journeymen. Many of the bouts have the potential for action and finishes, but the fights themselves might get ugly. Let us take a look at each matchup at UFC Fight Night “Maia vs. LaFlare” this Saturday at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro: WELTERWEIGHTS Demian Maia (19-6, 13-6 UFC) vs.

UFC 185 Judo Chop - Rafael Dos Anjos: A Flawless Execution, part 2

When Melendez fought the champ, he pressured him up against the cage, and worked takedowns and boxing. Whenever he managed to push Melendez back to the mid-range, Pettis would immediately snap out a spinning kick, or a front kick to the face, or a body kick. These visibly discomfited Melendez, and it became quickly apparent that he could not (or would not) stand at that distance, and he became so desperate to close in past Pettis's kicking that he ran into Pettis's flurries of punches. The takedowns changed from being something to pressure and unbalance the champion, to being a kind of safehouse for Melendez. Even while his gameplan was nominally working, you could see that there was a great impression being left on him by Pettis, driving Melendez inexorably towards grappling as a method of escape, a place where he could gulp down air to recover from the crushing pressure exerted by the champion's dynamism. Then, El Nino was stunned by a punch, and went straight for the safe zone for the fateful takedown which got him tapped.

Eric Bolling Blasts ‘Liberal Goon Squad’ of Stewart, Colbert, and Maher' Over Minimum Wage Fight

Eric Bolling ended today’s Cashin’ In going after the “liberal posse” of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Bill Maher for going after him whenever he calls out food stamp abuse or “minimum wage rage” on the left. Bolling argued they have their priorities backwards, because he’s more worried about members of the military getting decent, entry-level salaries. And it really outraged Bolling that fast food workers are demanding a $15/hour minimum wage, when entry-level military salaries are only a little over half that. Bolling said, “Every time I suggest we spend more money on troops, Colbert, Stewart, and Maher go on the attack… We have our priorities backward, thanks to the Mo, Larry, and Curly of the left.” Stewart and Colbert have both roasted Bolling in the past, and as recently as this week, Stewart reacted to Bolling’s comment about “latte-gate” by telling him, “Fuck you and your false patriotism.” "THIS VIDEO IS FAIR USE UNDER U.S. COPYRIGHT LAW BECAUSE IT IS (1) NON-COMMERCIAL, (2) TRANSFORMATIVE IN NATURE, (3) USES NO MORE OF THE ORIGINAL WORK THAN NECESSARY FOR THE VIDEO'S PURPOSE, AND (4) DOES NOT COMPETE WITH THE ORIGINAL WORK AND COULD HAVE NO NEGATIVE AFFECT ON ITS MARKET.

Sen. Boxer quietly backs bipartisan medical marijuana bill

“Sen. Boxer represents the state that led the way on medical marijuana, and it’s about time she took some action to defend the will of California’s voters from federal interference,” Tom Angell, chairman of Marijuana Majority, an advocacy group, said in a statement. California in 1996 became the first state to pass a medical marijuana law. Nevada’s medical marijuana laws went into effect last year.

Chechnya High Rise Burns For 29 Hours With No Collapse, WTC 7? | World Truth.TV

Looking at the photo taken of yesterdays blaze and comparing it to the WTC 7 photo taken on 9/11, we see two very different situations. In one we see a large portion of the building on fire and the fire appears to have been burning for some time. In another, we see almost no fire at all. Yet the building with little to no fire collapsed at free fall speed into its own footprint in just 7 hours. The 29 hour blaze of Chechnya’s building left the building still standing. This should raise some interesting questions as to why WTC 7 collapsed so quickly, or even why it collapsed at all.

'Corruption Of Blood' Bill Would Convict Lawbreakers' Kin

February 2013: Wyoming Rep. Kendell Kroeker, (R), seated at left, introduced legislation that would make it illegal to enforce a federal ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in his state. The bill, geared at the federal gun reform legislation spearheaded by Vice President Joe Biden, would have made agents enforcing federal guns subject to a $50,000 fine and up to five years in prison. As of Feb. 22, Open States notes that the bill was placed on general file, which is defined by the Wyoming State Legislature as on "a list of bills that are awaiting further action by the entire membership of the House or Senate sitting as the Committee of the Whole"

144 people knew about a Penn State fraternity’s creepshots, and 143 did nothing

Penn State and Kappa Delta Rho's parent organization have suspended the fraternity for a year over the incident, meaning the fraternity can't participate in social activities and will be reorganized before it's reinstated. But Penn State hasn't yet taken the drastic steps that the University of Oklahoma and Sigma Alpha Epsilon did when video of a racist song sung by fraternity members went viral last week. Fraternity members will still be allowed to live in the chapter's house, and, unlike at Oklahoma, the chapter isn't disbanded permanently.

'Sleepy Hollow' Renewed for Season 3

All of the shows I watch are not live. I have to DVR everything, or download. Also some of my shows get recorded at a different airing as I can only record one show at a time. I have an autistic teenager and some noisy annoyances (firetrucks since I live near the station) so I have no choice but to watch shows later, sometimes it can end up piling up to the following week. Even if someone doesn’t like a show (there are plenty hits I can’t stand like Empire) but you have to remember everyone is different, we like different things, just because one likes something doesn’t mean everyone else does. I don’t watch idol either. But those that love a show, we get involved into it enough that should it be cancelled it is heartbreaking, not only do we not see what happens next, we sometimes feel like we shouldn’t watch any show. I know someone who waits for a show to have 3 seasons, then downloads them all, because they don’t want to waste their time.

Why God cares only about what matters – Benjamin Grant Purzycki – Aeon

Purzycki does not seem concerned about his own bias, his own blinders. He finds "not a fleck of evidence" for any god's existence because humanists like him refuse to ever acknowledge it. Physicist Paul Davies won the 1994 Templeton Prize for his equation proving the existence of God, but it is almost never reported by such as Purzycki. And I acknowledge Davies himself said his math did not prove the presence of any deity we know from ancient scriptures, merely that the universe appears intelligently designed and a creator has made it. Math, science, may provide a body of evidence for God's presence and handiwork, like a medical examiner can provide proof of the body on his table. But he never knew the person that resided in that now-dead corpse. We can only know the spirit of God like we know the spirit of people, by our communication and personal relationship. Science is not equipped to prove spiritual matters. God will prove, or test, mankind, not the other way around.

Ben 'Phoenix Jones' Fodor looking to drop to lightweight after WSOF debut

“Everyone’s goal is a little different,” Fodor said. “When you look at fighting, there are certain times people have the belt and you’re like, ‘Man, I want to fight that dude right now because stylistically he’s just not ready for it.’ This isn’t the case. NCAA wrestling championships a family affair

Logan, the top-seeded 141-pound wrestler in the tournament, will first need to face two days of stiff competition to make it to the finals, but assuming the currently undefeated Ohio native can plod through the crowded field, he'll have an opportunity to join one of sport's most elite fraternities. Only Pat Smith of Oklahoma State, who became the first to achieve the four-peat at the 1994 NCAA championships; Cael Sanderson for Iowa State in 2002; and Kyle Dake of Cornell in 2013 have won four titles at the Division I level.

Ryan Couture: Scott Coker, Dana White ‘Have Very Different Approaches’

Ryan Couture says moving to Bellator “felt like coming home.” | Keith Mills/Sherdog.com Make no mistake, Ryan Couture harbors no ill will toward the Ultimate Fighting Championship . The 32-year-old lightweight was released from the Las Vegas-based promotion following back-to-back losses to Ross Pearson and Al Iaquinta in 2013. Although Couture was given stiff opposition in his first two promotional appearances, he says the UFC was justified in handing him the proverbial pink slip. “I wasn’t surprised by it at all. I felt like I didn’t really show up and perform,” Couture told Sherdog.com. “I felt like if I had gone out and just fought gangbusters and still come up short against those two...and looked like more of a crowd pleaser than I did, it might have been a different story. But based on how those fights went, I was more or less expecting to get that phone call. I didn’t feel like it was a raw deal.” That said, the reunion with Bellator President Scott Coker, whom Couture fought for during a seven-bout Strikeforce tenure from 2010 to 2013, feels pretty good right now.

Hindsight: UFC 185 in retrospect

Fallout for Pettis: It's fair to say, at this point, that a broken orbital probably severely affected Anthony Pettis' performance in this fight. It's also fair to say, that his willingness to get hit hard inside, (and generally lackluster inside game) is what led to him getting his eye busted in the first place. Pettis has holes in his game. This wasn't unknown coming in, but the assumption was that he's improved enough that he could cover them with raw talent. This shows that that's still not the case, and while I think he's still right in the title hunt, I could see other top lightweights exploiting those same flaws to their advantage. More importantly, how well his eye heals could play a big factor in his fights going forward.
