Report: Alexander Gustafsson to Fight Glover Teixeira in Sweden

It looks like two of the world’s best light heavyweight contenders will be locking horns later in the year as former world title challenger Alexander Gustafsson will collide with Glover Teixeira . cited multiple sources in a report that says the two 205-pounders will go at in on May 28. The pivotal showdown will likely serve as the main event of an Ultimate Fighting Championship event slated for Stockholm, Sweden, Gustafsson’s homeland. The two were slated to face off at UFC Fight: Berlin back in 2015, but the lanky Swede suffered an arm injury in training and had to pull out. Gustafsson, who gave a spirited effort against then- champion Jon Jones at UFC 165 but he came up short. “The Mauler” has since gone a pedestrian 2-2 since, but he is coming off a dominant win over Jan Blachowicz at UFC Fight Night 93 last September ( online betting ). Teixeira, meanwhile, has been at the precipice of a world title fight for a few years now since losing in his only bid against Jones at UFC 172. After losing to “Bones” and then Phil Davis , the Brazilian rattled off three straight victories before being bludgeoned in just 13 seconds by Anthony Johnson at UFC 202.

Tony Ferguson: Interim LW Title Bout vs. Nurmagomedov Should Be UFC 209 Main Event

Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated the airtime during Thursday’s UFC 209 media call with their back-and-forth banter, and according to Ferguson, their interim lightweight title clash is the true attraction for next weekend’s pay-per-view card. “You guys are going to see f—-ing fireworks. This should be the main event,” Ferguson said. “I don’t know why Stephen Thompson and Tyron Woodley are the main event. This is the s—t everybody’s talking about.” The welterweight championship rematch between Woodley and Thompson will headline UFC 209 after their first meeting at UFC 205 resulted in a draw. But the animosity between Ferguson, who has won nine fights in a row, and Nurmagomedov, who is unbeaten in 24 professional bouts, adds intrigue to an already tantalizing matchup. Even Nurmagomedov took a momentary break from taunting Ferguson on the call to acknowledge the significance of the fight. “A lot people are waiting for this fight. This is real high level. In my opinion, this is the greatest matchup in lightweight history in the UFC,” Nurmagomedov said.

Deontay Wilder Takes Out Gerald Washington to Retain Heavyweight Title

With a near-full Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, cheering him on, reigning WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was sluggish, slow and out of sync early on against challenger Gerald Washington. Their battle anchored a PBC on Fox card in Wilder’s home state and it appeared as though a sizable upset was in the works. Washington used a solid jab to keep Wilder guessing and when the champ got close enough, the Californian dug thudding hooks to the body. Wilder remained calm, though, as he waded through the sporadic attacks and just when it seemed like his unblemished professional record was in jeopardy, Wilder changed the tides in the blink of an eye. Washington tripled up a jab and when he did, he left his head out too far, allowing Wilder to crack it with a short right cross. The punch turned Washington’s legs to gelatin and a follow-up left to the head dropped him into the ropes. Washington (18-1-1, 12 KOs) quickly regained his footing, but when the fight resumed, “The Bronze Bomber” pounced on him like a man possessed. The heavily-tattooed titlist swarmed him with furious punches to the head and when a few too many crashed upside the challenger’s head, referee Mike Griffin had no choice but to intervene.

Sherdog Prospect Watch: Aspen Ladd

They exist in an ever evolving sport, which is why Aspen Ladd and her coaches compare her skills to a Lego Ferrari with a never-ending amount of pieces. Ladd has been adding to her tool kit since she started her formal training at age 14. The undefeated women’s bantamweight prospect first walked into an MMA gym in hopes of finding a way to stay in shape. Little did she know that she would be hooked soon after. “Within a week, I fell in love with the sport; the competition is what got me hooked to it,” Ladd told “You always have something new to learn, and it always keeps you on your toes.” Ladd has enjoyed the luxury of training at the same gym since she started her MMA journey: MMA Gold in El Dorado Hills, California. She stood out from her peers from the beginning. “The first time I saw Aspen in there, she was not training MMA,” said longtime coach Jim West. “She was in there with her brother, and they were just rolling around on the mats.” He remembers turning to one of his colleagues and saying, “That girl is going to make it.

Khabib Nurmagomedov trashes Conor McGregor ahead of title fight at UFC 209 | FOX Sports

“What’s interesting, I think UFC have to make plans a little bit. This chicken is no loyal guy,” Nurmagomedov said. “I know this. If you remember, the first time he fights in the UFC, after the fight he said ‘$50 G’s baby’ something like this, he asked to Dana please give me $50,000. He said give me $50,000. The UFC made him. If he never fought in the UFC, how he become like this?  Now he has name, now he talk about he can fight without the UFC in boxing. For me this is disrespect to UFC. Now I think the UFC has to make plan. They have to put PR machine [behind me].

Artem Vakhitov Knocks Out Saulo Cavalari to Retain Glory Light Heavyweight Title

Reigning Glory light heavyweight champion Artem Vakhitov lost to Saulo Cavalari via split decision at Glory 20. He turned the tides and beat Cavalari at Glory 28 by unanimous decision. Friday night, in the main event of Glory 38: Chicago, Vakhitov proved that he is truly the better of the two. The two fought a high-paced tactical opening round and it seemed like Cavalari was going to give his rival as many problems as he has in the past. But when the Russian followed a glancing head kick with a right hook to the jaw, Cavalari never recovered. The punch dropped Cavalari and while he rose back to his feet to continue, he was knocked to the canvas seconds later from a right cross. Cavalari cleared his head just enough to last a little longer, but Vakhitov was patient while in search of the knockout. Cavalari played it safe in an effort to survive the frame, but the multiple-time Russian and European champion switched to southpaw and bombarded him with punches to the head. Cavalari sagged into the corner, unable to defend himself, allowing not only Vakhitov to tee off, but to force referee Chris Wagner to rescue him.

Adegbuyi Rallies Late, Topples Silva in Glory 38 SuperFight Series Undercard Main Event

Glory No. 1 heavyweight contender Benjamin Adegbuyi likely earned himself another crack at current champion Rico Verhoeven by surviving a slow start and getting rocked in the second from a high kick. The Romanian stormed to life in the third and knocked Anderson “Braddock” Silva off his feet after drilling him with sinister inside low kick. It was a somewhat controversial call on referee Chris Wagner’s part as the decision cost Silva the win. When the initial three rounds were complete, the fight was declared a majority draw when one of the judges’ score of 29-27 in favor of Adegbuyi was overturned by a 28-28 tab by the other two. Glory’s sudden death round rule was enacted and Silva, who was gassed badly in the third, couldn’t muster enough strength to win. Adegbuyi laced the Brazilian with a wicked right uppercut on the inside, sending him sprawling into the ropes and down on a knee. From there, Adegbuyi tore into his foe with kicks to the body and legs and easily won the frame 10-8 on all three cards. One of the most exciting heavyweights in the world was at his best as Catalin “The Carpathian Death” Morosanu swarmed the much taller Maurice Greene and knocked him out in the second.

Opinion: A Retroactive Look at Recent Retroactive TUE Drama

Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of, its affiliates and sponsors or its parent company, Evolve Media. * * * Last Friday, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency cleared featherweight queen Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino in her case stemming from a positive test for spironolactone this past December, granting her a retroactive therapeutic use exemption for the banned diuretic and imposing no punishment. Two days later during the Ultimate Fighting Championship 's Fight Night card in Halifax, cursed UFC flyweight Ian McCall joined Joe Rogan and Eddie Bravo for their “Fight Companion” podcast. In their multi-hour chat session, “Uncle Creepy” revealed that ahead of his ill-fated, canceled bout with Jarred Brooks at UFC 208, he was given intravenous rehydration by UFC officials, despite being banned by USADA rules. Since the UFC beefed up its drug testing policy and USADA officially began testing its athletes on July 1, 2015, the relationship between the two entities has undeniably, provocatively changed the landscape of this sport's biggest promotion and this sport on the whole.

Justin DeLoach Starches Chris Pearson in Two in ShoBox Main Event

Super welterweight contender Justin DeLoach was sensational Friday night in the main event of the latest edition of ShoBox: The New Generation. The longtime Showtime boxing series has produced countless eventual world champions and by the looks of DeLoach, he could be added to that list. DeLoach (17-1, 9 KOs) bludgeoned Chris Pearson badly and knocked him out in the second round. DeLoach was in control of the action from the start and turned up the heat quickly. “The Chosen One” dropped Pearson (14-2, 10 KOs) twice in what was the final frame, with the second felling being for good. The official time of the knockout came at the 2:30 mark of the stanza, igniting the raucous crowd inside Pechanga Casino and Resort in Temecula, Calif. Saul Rodriguez improved to 21-0-1 (15) by edging fellow lightweight Oscar Bravo via split decision over 10 hard-fought rounds. Bravo seemed to be in control of the action for much of the fight and even knocked Rodriguez off his feet in the fifth, but it was Rodriguez’ higher punch output and constant pressure that swayed the judges in his favor. Two of the judges favored Rodriguez with scores of 95-94 and 97-92, while the third official had it 95-94 for Bravo, who fell to 22-7 with 10 KOs.

Rashad Evans: 5 Defining Moments

Rashad Evans has little left to accomplish as he drifts into the twilight of his outstanding run as a mixed martial artist. The Niagara Falls, New York, native won Season 2 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, served as a cornerstone for two world-class training camps, captured Ultimate Fighting Championship gold as a light heavyweight and engaged in two of the modern era’s most heated rivalries. Evans, 37, will downshift to 185 pounds for the first time when he meets four-time Olympian Daniel Kelly at UFC 209 on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where the man they call “Suga” seeks to reinvent himself and avoid his first three-fight losing streak as a professional. In a stellar career replete with defining moments, here are five that stand out: 1. In Reality Not much was expected of Evans when he was cast as a heavyweight on “The Ultimate Fighter 2” in 2005. He had wrestled collegiately at Michigan State University and was off to a 5-0 start in MMA, but at 5-foot-10, he was undersized for the heavyweight division and considered a longshot at best.

Tyron Woodley Focused on Thompson Rematch, Not Future Bout vs. Georges St. Pierre

Not long after Tyron Woodley knocked out Robbie Lawler to claim the welterweight crown at UFC 201, he set his sights on a pair of high-profile opponents. One of those was Nick Diaz , whose suspension for a positive marijuana test at UFC 183 ended last summer. While Diaz is cleared to compete, there are currently no fights on the horizon for the Stockton, Calif., native. The other option that interested Woodley was ex-champ Georges St. Pierre , who in June had expressed a desire to end a hiatus from the sport that began in late 2013. Now, St. Pierre is officially back in the UFC fold after recently signing a new contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion. However, Woodley is more focused on his rematch with Stephen Thompson , the man he initially dismissed after vanquishing Lawler, than any “money fights” the future might hold. “I’m not worried about GSP right now. I don’t have time to go back-and-forth on that roller coaster ride,” Woodley said during a teleconference on Thursday. “‘Wonderboy’" is getting a second opportunity; he’s in a win-win situation.

Team Conor McGregor: ‘Khabib is better than GSP’

“My number one thing would be for Conor to fight MMA. That’s my number one thing. That’s my selfish No. 1, what I would like to see. Which opponent? I’ve said it before – the Nate [Diaz] rematch interests me a lot because it’s 1-1 and how the styles match up. Almost on a par with that, not much difference, will be the winner of Khabib [Nurmagomedov] and [Tony] Ferguson this weekend. I think Khabib does it, so I think Khabib will be the winner. So Khabib will be the match up out of that. Below that would be [Georges St-Pierre]. Purely because GSP was an incredible fighter. [I’m a] big fan of him, I’ve learned a lot from watching his fights, but it’s a long time since he’s fought and the game changes very, very quickly and I think Khabib is sort of like a better version of GSP. Although we don’t know, it’s hard to tell how GSP and Khabib would match up. But yeah, MMA-wise, Nate or almost on a par winner of Khabib/Ferguson.”
