'Biggest name in MMA' Floyd Mayweather says 50-50 chance of cage fight by end of 2018

“Fighting is not nothing new for me,” he said. “Fighting barefoot is something new, but fighting is nothing new for me. The thing is this — (say I’m) fighting a guy that has some unbelievable jiu-jitsu skills, unbelievable wrestling skills, but the thing is this: His chances of getting to me, I mean, the percentage of his chances getting to me to lock up with me, he has to come in first. But he may lock up with me, and he may get wrapped up in certain ways. You don’t know how things could play out or how things could happen.

Anthony Pettis: CM Punk One of the Hardest Workers at Roufusport

When Phil Brooks -- better known as “CM Punk” – inked a deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in December 2014, fight fans were left scratching their head as to why he decided to leave a multi-million dollar contract with World Wrestling Entertainment to enter the Octagon as an untested mixed martial artist at the ripe old age of 36. Many believed it was a publicity stunt, although Punk assured fans he was serious in his attempt at making it as a fighter. After numerous delays due to injury, Punk finally made his debut on Sept. 10, 2016 against the talented young up and comer Micky Gall, who exposed Punk’s many weaknesses and inexperience in the complex and brutal world of MMA. Punk lost the bout at 2:14 of the opening frame via rear-naked choke. One of Punk’s teammates at Roufusport is former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis . Pettis recently appeared on The MMA Hour and discussed Punk’s progression since his first bout and why he thinks he’ll have better success in his next outing. “I see him every day, man.

Prospect Paddy Pimblett Inks New Deal with Cage Warriors, Set to Return Sept. 1 in Liverpool

Paddy Pimblett won’t be UFC bound in time to make the Las Vegas-based promotion’s Liverpool card on May 27, but he will be competing in the English city later this year. Cage Warriors announced on Saturday that it has re-signed its former featherweight champion to a multi-fight deal, and “Paddy the Baddy” will return to action on Sept. 1 in Liverpool at the Echo Arena. Per a release from the European promotion: “Despite plenty calling for Pimblett to feature on the UFC’s newly-announced Liverpool date, ‘The Baddy’ remains determined to carry out his mission to reclaim a Cage Warriors world title by signing a new deal with [President Graham] Boylan’s promotion. Whether or not his [Cage Warriors 96] appearance will be a challenge for a title is yet to be confirmed, but one thing is for certain: Pimblett will return to the Echo Arena on September 1st at the top of the bill.” The 23-year-old Pimblett has won 11 of his last 12 bouts, including a flying triangle submission of Alexis Savvidis in his most recent outing at Cage Warriors 90 on Feb.

Kritsada Krongsrichai's ONE: Iron Will Win Rescinded Due to Illegal Suplex | MMAWeekly.com

“Unfortunately, I have to be the bearer of bad news. While I am a big fan of Kritsada Kongsrichai and his incredible athleticism, the fight against Robin Catalan has now been ruled a DQ. After careful video review of the fight under multiple angles, it has been deemed that an illegal suplex was utilized. At ONE Championship, all variations of suplexes are illegal and any attempt or intent results in an automatic disqualification. Robin Catalan will now be awarded the victory, and his win bonus. It will also be ruled a loss via DQ for Kritsada Kongsrichai and his official fight record. As a fellow lifelong martial artist, I fully understand that no athlete wants to win or lose under the cloud of a DQ. However, as the leader of ONE Championship, I am here to ensure that safety is the #1 priority at all times for all of our athletes.”

Frankie Edgar responds to concerns about quick turnaround following KO loss | BJPenn.com

“I was pretty with it,” he said. “I recall the knockout because I didn’t get turned off or anything. Even when I was going down, I knew I had a short time. In my head I was saying, ‘Alright, short time, short time. Let’s try to get through this.’ But obviously he was able to capitalize on it with that uppercut. And even when I fell, as soon as the ref came over me, I said I was good, and maybe I wasn’t — I’m not really complaining about the stoppage, I can see why he stopped it — but I was with it. As soon as he stopped it, I said, ‘I’m good! I’m good!’ I was trying to argue. Obviously I needed a little help [to stand up], but I wasn’t all the way out. I didn’t even have a headache afterwards that night at the hotel or anything.”

Mike Santiago vs. Dan Ige Added to UFC 225 Lineup in Chicago on June 9

A featherweight showdown between Mike Santiago and Dan Ige has been added to the UFC 225 bill. The Las Vegas-based promotion recently announced the matchup. UFC 225 takes place at the United Center in Chicago on June 9 and is headlined by a middleweight championship bout between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero . Santiago got his start in the Octagon thanks to a first-round knockout of Mark Cherico on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series 7 on Aug. 22. The 28-year-old Illinois native is still looking for his first promotional triumph after falling to Zabit Magomedsharipov and Mads Burneel in his first two appearances. Ige, meanwhile, got his opportunity on the basis of a submission of Luis Gomez on the third edition of the Contender Series. He made his Octagon debut at UFC 220, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Julio Arce .

UFC’s Jon Anik Discusses How he Treats Every Event Like it’s His Last

Ultimate Fighting Championship lead commentator Jon Anik has talked about his mindset going into each event and how he treats every production like it’s his last. The 39 year-old joined the UFC in 2011 as lead commentator on non-pay-per-view events and spent the next six years playing understudy to the much more experienced Mike Goldberg. In July 2016, the UFC was sold to a group led by WME–IMG for a rumoured $4.2 billion. As is the norm with new owners, they started making their own changes and in 2017 announced they were parting ways with Goldberg, who had over a decade of experience with the company. This decision left Anik as the lead play-by-play commentator. What happened to Goldberg highlighted the harsh reality of show business and how quickly things can change in something as volatile as the UFC. Anik recently talked with MMAJunkie.com on his mindset as a commentator and acknowledged he, too, could be let go next without reason: “I think that it aids performance. I treat every show like it could be my last.” As the lead play-by-play commentator, Anik has his hands full not only making sure his commentary is on point, but to ensure he creates chemistry with the many talented co-commentators he is paired with.

How Josh Barnett's USADA arbitration could be a game-changer for UFC fighters

(Interesting side note: The arbitrator’s report suggests that Barnett might have been ready to step away from fighting anyway, at least for a time. According to the timeline of events, he was tested by USADA on Dec. 9, 2016. A few days later, on Dec. 14, Barnett sent USADA and the UFC a written notice that he intended to take “a leave of absence” from fighting in order to focus on other aspects of his career. Barnett seems to have been requesting to be at least temporarily removed from the testing pool until he decided he wanted to return to active competition. It wasn’t until Dec. 27 that he was notified of a potential anti-doping violation.)

Video: Ronda Rousey Annoyed by Question About MMA Return, Gives Snarky Response

A word of advice to journalists: If you’re going to ask Ronda Rousey about a potential mixed martial arts return, it’s best to do it as clearly as possible. Mike Golic learned that the hard way during an interview with the former UFC champion on ESPN’s “Golic and Wingo” show on Tuesday. Things got a bit awkward when Golic posed a follow-up question after Rousey denied saying she would never fight again. A full transcription of the exchange is as follows: Golic: Let’s go back and start with when you knew from the MMA, when you were done there. When you knew in your mind, “I’m not going to fight anymore?” Rousey: I never said that. Golic: Ah, so there is a possibility that you could go back, in time? Rousey: There’s a possibility that I could go back in time? That’s your question to me? Golic: Go back in time and fight. Go back in the Octagon. Rousey: I do not have the ability to go back in time, no. Golic: Would you fight again? Rousey: I don’t know. While Golic probably could have phrased his question better, it’s still relatively clear that when he says “in time” he means eventually.

Darren Till appears to have an opponent for UFC Fight Night 130 , as he will square off against former welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson . The Las Vegas-based promotion has not formally announced the contest. UFC Fight Night 130 takes place at Echo Arena in Liverpool, England on May 27 and will air on Fox Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Till is coming off the biggest victory of his career to date at UFC Fight Night 118 this past October, when he stopped Donald Cerrone via technical knockout 4:20 into the opening round of their bout. The 25-year-old owns a 16-0-1 career mark that includes 10 triumphs via KO/TKO and two by way of submission. After twice coming up short in a pair of title bouts against Tyron Woodley — once by majority draw and once in a majority decision defeat — “Wonderboy” returned to the win column with a three-round verdict over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217 in November.
