'Biggest name in MMA' Floyd Mayweather says 50-50 chance of cage fight by end of 2018

“Fighting is not nothing new for me,” he said. “Fighting barefoot is something new, but fighting is nothing new for me. The thing is this — (say I’m) fighting a guy that has some unbelievable jiu-jitsu skills, unbelievable wrestling skills, but the thing is this: His chances of getting to me, I mean, the percentage of his chances getting to me to lock up with me, he has to come in first. But he may lock up with me, and he may get wrapped up in certain ways. You don’t know how things could play out or how things could happen.

Anthony Pettis: CM Punk One of the Hardest Workers at Roufusport

When Phil Brooks -- better known as “CM Punk” – inked a deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in December 2014, fight fans were left scratching their head as to why he decided to leave a multi-million dollar contract with World Wrestling Entertainment to enter the Octagon as an untested mixed martial artist at the ripe old age of 36. Many believed it was a publicity stunt, although Punk assured fans he was serious in his attempt at making it as a fighter. After numerous delays due to injury, Punk finally made his debut on Sept. 10, 2016 against the talented young up and comer Micky Gall, who exposed Punk’s many weaknesses and inexperience in the complex and brutal world of MMA. Punk lost the bout at 2:14 of the opening frame via rear-naked choke. One of Punk’s teammates at Roufusport is former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis . Pettis recently appeared on The MMA Hour and discussed Punk’s progression since his first bout and why he thinks he’ll have better success in his next outing. “I see him every day, man.

Frankie Edgar responds to concerns about quick turnaround following KO loss | BJPenn.com

“I was pretty with it,” he said. “I recall the knockout because I didn’t get turned off or anything. Even when I was going down, I knew I had a short time. In my head I was saying, ‘Alright, short time, short time. Let’s try to get through this.’ But obviously he was able to capitalize on it with that uppercut. And even when I fell, as soon as the ref came over me, I said I was good, and maybe I wasn’t — I’m not really complaining about the stoppage, I can see why he stopped it — but I was with it. As soon as he stopped it, I said, ‘I’m good! I’m good!’ I was trying to argue. Obviously I needed a little help [to stand up], but I wasn’t all the way out. I didn’t even have a headache afterwards that night at the hotel or anything.”

Joanna Jedrzejczyk Gives Weight Cut Update Ahead of UFC 223 Title Rematch vs. Namajunas

It looks like Joanna Jedrzejczyk is well on track to making weight for her strawweight title rematch against Rose Namajunas at UFC 223 . The former champion announced via Instagram on Wednesday that she currently weighs 122.5 pounds – less than eight pounds away from her contracted mark of 115 pounds. “If you want something done right…You have to do it yourself,” she wrote. Jedrzejczyk fell to Namajunas via first-round technical knockout at UFC 217 in one of 2017’s biggest upsets. The Polish star later attributed her performance to cutting 15 pounds in 14 hours ahead of the November title bout. As a result, Jedrzejczyk parted ways with her nutrition team , Perfecting Athletes. “It was an accident what happened,” Jedrzejczyk said then. “I know that I should have won the match, and I know that I could have won the match. ... The people that I was working with led me to a critical state. “I told my doctor I need to do whatever to weigh 115. I don't care if I have to be in a tub with whatever temperature. It gets harder and harder as you get older to cut weight.

Sean Grande to Make ‘One Night Only’ Return for Broadcast Duties at Bellator 196

Former Bellator MMA commentator Sean Grande will return to work for the California-based promotion for “one night only” next month. Grande announced via Twitter that he will call the Bellator 196 card on April 6 as a one-time gig. It is currently unclear who else will share the broadcast booth with Grande. “Happy to report my return to Bellator and MMA for one night only April 6,” Grande wrote. “There were so many reasons to do it, but here is the biggest. My main event fee is going to my friend Manny Rodriguez. If you enjoy the show, and can give a little, thank you.” Rodriguez, a former fighter and Bellator’s Spanish language broadcaster, is dealing with heart complications triggered by a pulmonary embolism. Those interested in donating to help Rodriguez can find more information here . Grande and Bellator parted ways last year after the organization elected to hire veteran announcers Mike Goldberg and Mauro Ranallo. Grande, who works as a play-by-play announcer for Boston Celtics radio broadcasts, last worked for the organization at Bellator 179 in May 2017.

Prospect Paddy Pimblett Inks New Deal with Cage Warriors, Set to Return Sept. 1 in Liverpool

Paddy Pimblett won’t be UFC bound in time to make the Las Vegas-based promotion’s Liverpool card on May 27, but he will be competing in the English city later this year. Cage Warriors announced on Saturday that it has re-signed its former featherweight champion to a multi-fight deal, and “Paddy the Baddy” will return to action on Sept. 1 in Liverpool at the Echo Arena. Per a release from the European promotion: “Despite plenty calling for Pimblett to feature on the UFC’s newly-announced Liverpool date, ‘The Baddy’ remains determined to carry out his mission to reclaim a Cage Warriors world title by signing a new deal with [President Graham] Boylan’s promotion. Whether or not his [Cage Warriors 96] appearance will be a challenge for a title is yet to be confirmed, but one thing is for certain: Pimblett will return to the Echo Arena on September 1st at the top of the bill.” The 23-year-old Pimblett has won 11 of his last 12 bouts, including a flying triangle submission of Alexis Savvidis in his most recent outing at Cage Warriors 90 on Feb.

UFC’s Jon Anik Discusses How he Treats Every Event Like it’s His Last

Ultimate Fighting Championship lead commentator Jon Anik has talked about his mindset going into each event and how he treats every production like it’s his last. The 39 year-old joined the UFC in 2011 as lead commentator on non-pay-per-view events and spent the next six years playing understudy to the much more experienced Mike Goldberg. In July 2016, the UFC was sold to a group led by WME–IMG for a rumoured $4.2 billion. As is the norm with new owners, they started making their own changes and in 2017 announced they were parting ways with Goldberg, who had over a decade of experience with the company. This decision left Anik as the lead play-by-play commentator. What happened to Goldberg highlighted the harsh reality of show business and how quickly things can change in something as volatile as the UFC. Anik recently talked with MMAJunkie.com on his mindset as a commentator and acknowledged he, too, could be let go next without reason: “I think that it aids performance. I treat every show like it could be my last.” As the lead play-by-play commentator, Anik has his hands full not only making sure his commentary is on point, but to ensure he creates chemistry with the many talented co-commentators he is paired with.

If Georges St-Pierre returns to UFC, who will he fight? A breakdown of his top options

Similar to Chael Sonnen’s approach toward his first fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117, is Askren’s opportunity here. Askren, the two-time NCAA Division I national-champion wrestler, may not have the most appealing style to the casual fan, but the undefeated fighter does have the unabashed confidence to market this match with his intentions to spoil St-Pierre’s party in front of his home country – something that I see selling plenty.

Video: Ronda Rousey Annoyed by Question About MMA Return, Gives Snarky Response

A word of advice to journalists: If you’re going to ask Ronda Rousey about a potential mixed martial arts return, it’s best to do it as clearly as possible. Mike Golic learned that the hard way during an interview with the former UFC champion on ESPN’s “Golic and Wingo” show on Tuesday. Things got a bit awkward when Golic posed a follow-up question after Rousey denied saying she would never fight again. A full transcription of the exchange is as follows: Golic: Let’s go back and start with when you knew from the MMA, when you were done there. When you knew in your mind, “I’m not going to fight anymore?” Rousey: I never said that. Golic: Ah, so there is a possibility that you could go back, in time? Rousey: There’s a possibility that I could go back in time? That’s your question to me? Golic: Go back in time and fight. Go back in the Octagon. Rousey: I do not have the ability to go back in time, no. Golic: Would you fight again? Rousey: I don’t know. While Golic probably could have phrased his question better, it’s still relatively clear that when he says “in time” he means eventually.
