UFC Flyweight Matheus Nicolau Accepts 1-Year Suspension for Anti-Doping Violation

Matheus Nicolau Pereira has accepted a one-year suspension from USADA for a positive drug test stemming from an out-of-competition urine test on Oct. 13. USADA announced the sanction in a statement on Wednesday. Nicolau tested positive for anastrozole, which is listed in the category of hormone and metabolic modulators and is prohibited according to WADA code. Nicolau’s suspension is retroactive to the date of his positive test, meaning he will be able to return to active competition on Oct. 14, 2017. While anastrozole is primarily used to help treat breast cancer, it can also help to maximize the effect testosterone on the body while limiting the amount of estrogen secreted. The 24-year-old UFC flyweight was scheduled to face Yuta Sasaki at UFC Fight Night 100 in Sao Paul this past November but was pulled from the card after the failed drug test was revealed approximately two weeks before the fight. Nicolau began his Octagon tenure with consecutive triumphs over Bruno Rodrigues Mesquita and former title challenger John Moraga .

Chiesa, 29, enters the bout on a three-fight winning streak. “Maverick” last competed at UFC on Fox 19 in April 2016, when he submitted Beneil Dariush in the second stanza. “The Ultimate Fighter 15” winner is 7-2 during his promotional tenure overall. Lee, meanwhile, has reeled off four consecutive triumphs since falling to Leonardo Santos at UFC 194. That streak includes finishes of Francisco Trinaldo , Magomed Mustafaev and Jake Matthews . The 24-year-old “Motown Phenom” is 8-2 over the course of his UFC career.

Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson: 5 Defining Moments

The sun has begun to set on Quinton Jackson ’s mixed martial arts career, but the man they call “Rampage” remains one of the sport’s best-known commodities. Jackson, who turns 39 on June 20, has enjoyed a stellar run during his 17-plus years in the MMA arena, winning titles in King of the Cage and the Ultimate Fighting Championship while starring in Pride Fighting Championships and Bellator MMA . He will put a five-fight winning streak on the line when he confronts Muhammed Lawal in the Bellator 175 headliner on Friday at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois ( online sportsbooks ). In a long and storied career littered with defining moments, here are five that stand out for “Rampage” Jackson: 1. The Slam The battle between “Rampage” and Ricardo Arona at Pride Critical Countdown 2004 remains one of the most memorable fights in Pride history because of the sudden and violent nature with which it concluded inside the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The two men traded intermittently on the feet, but the majority of their bout was contested with Jackson inside the Brazilian Top Team standout’s guard.

Rampage Jackson clarifies comment about "biggest regret" being MMA |

“Since I’ve been a fighter, I’ve been screwed out of millions of dollars by managers and people pretending to be friends. When I was champion, I had a lot of fake friends around me,” Jackson said. “And as soon as I lost the belt, where did they go? My family, they’re always there. They always tell me they miss me and they’re proud of me. So I just wish I would’ve stayed home in Memphis and been with my family, the people who like me.” “I would’ve been a construction worker, just like the rest of my family, and happy. And that’s all I said. But you’ve got negative people that spin it and take it out of context, and it gets annoying sometimes when people do that. So, I just kept it real, like I always do. I keep it real. You ask me a question, I’m going to give you the honest, most real answer I can possibly give you.”

Vinc Pichel returns after more than 3 years, meets Damien Brown at UFC Fight Night 110 in New Zealand

Brown came to the UFC a year ago for a debut at UFC Fight Night 85 in front of his home fans in Australia, but dropped a unanimous decision to Alan Patrick. After that, though, he rebounded in a big way with a first-round knockout of Cesar Arzamendia at UFC 201, and this past November, he took a split call from Jon Tuck at UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia. The victory gave him seven wins in his past eight fights after a four-fight skid in 2013-14 that included three decision losses under the Cage Warriors banner.

Bantamweight King Cody Garbrandt Has Designs on Becoming Three-Division UFC Champ

Cody Garbrandt is dreaming big. While the UFC bantamweight champion has a title defense with T.J. Dillashaw lined up after their coaching gigs on “The Ultimate Fighter 25,” he isn’t afraid to plot his course after that bout. Should all goes as planned against Dillashaw, current flyweight king Demetrious Johnson would be next on the agenda. “I can go to [125 pounds]. Obviously T.J. first and foremost, I’m solely focused on him. But you’ve got to think Conor’s not fighting. Aldo and Holloway are fighting, so it ties that up,” Garbrandt said on "The Aubrey Marcus Podcast.” “Demetrious is the pound-for-pound best, incredible fighter. Great human, I like him a lot and his family. But for me it’s a legacy that I set out to build. Friendships are friendships. It’s business at the end of the day. I think that can go on as a huge fight. Especially for that division; it’s kind of lackluster a lot.” Johnson has been dominant since capturing the promotion’s inaugural flyweight belt with a victory over Joseph Benavidez at UFC 152 in September 2012. “Mighty Mouse” has taken on all comers during his reign, defending the belt nine times against the best the division has to offer.

Bellator LW Champ Michael Chandler Interested in Facing Opponents Out of His Division

Bellator MMA lightweight champion Michael Chandler recognizes the task in front of him heading into his next 155-pound title defense. Chandler will put his belt on the line against the relatively unheralded Brent Primus in a featured bout at the California-based promotion’s pay-per-view event in New York on June 24. While Chandler is the known commodity, a two-time champion with a string of big fights under his belt, he once was in a position similar to that of Primus ( online sportsbooks ). The former University of Missouri wrestling champion capitalized on his opportunity, as he submitted then lightweight king Eddie Alvarez in the fourth round of their bout at Bellator 58 in November 2011. It is a fight that still ranks among the best in promotion history and established Chandler as a star and perennial contender. While the 30-year-old champion has interests beyond the lightweight division, he must first get past Primus, a Sports Lab-trained fighter with a 7-0 career mark. “I’m in this sport to get the biggest fights I possibly can,” Chandler said during a press conference in New York on Tuesday.

UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson shifts to Nate Diaz: 'I'd love to go toe-to-toe with him'

“I want to fight a top contender. I’m one of the best fighters in the world as far as lightweight contention. I’ve put in my time; I’ve put in my numbers. If Conor wants to leave the belt and pursue some sort of victory in the boxing world, which I don’t think he is – the dude’s got a puncher’s chance. But (expletive), vacate the belt right now, drop it, leave it where it’s at, and (I’ll) fight for the title (at) International Fight Week against someone else.

UFC champion Cody Garbrandt: Make Demetrious Johnson earn title defense record against me

Johnson (25-2-1 MMA, 13-1-1 UFC) is the only flyweight champion in UFC history and will attempt to match Silva’s record of 10 consecutive defenses when he faces Wilson Reis in next month’s UFC on FOX 24 headliner. Should Johnson be victorious, his fight after that would give him sole possession of the record, but Garbrandt (11-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) believes he can prevent that from happening.

Hand Gun Choke Counter to One of the Worst Situations in Half Guard (Recorded Live)

For more half gyard goodness, check out ► This is simple a combination of ideas from different sources. Case in point: A few days ago, someone sent me Neil Melanson's video on the hand gun choke because they had seen some similarities to the concepts I stressed for the loop choke. And once I started playing with it, I saw it too. It really is the loop choke in no-gi form, and a lot of the same principles apply. Also I'm big proponent of the hip tilt/john wayne/giggler sweep. I'm writing to urge your support for The Marijuana Revenue and Regulation Act, which would allow state governments to experiment with alternative regulatory schemes for marijuana free from federal interference. Twenty-nine states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for qualified patients, while eight states now regulate the production and sale of marijuana to all adults. An estimated 63 million Americans now reside in jurisdictions where anyone over the age of 21 may possess cannabis legally. Voters support these policy changes. According to a 2017 Quinnipiac University poll, 59 percent of Americans support full marijuana legalization and 71 percent believe that states, not the federal government, should set marijuana policy. These statewide regulatory schemes are operating largely as voters and politicians intended. The enactment of these policies have not negatively impacted workplace safety, crime rates, traffic safety, or youth use patterns. They have stimulated economic development and tax revenue. Specifically, a 2017 report estimates that 123,000 Americans are now working full-time in the cannabis industry.
