Jim Miller vs. Diego Sanchez Round 1 Sanchez charges out of the gate and tries to put pressure on Miller, who stays on his back foot and catches the “Nightmare” with a counter uppercut in one exchange. Miller switches between stances in the opening 90 seconds but lands his most effective punches from southpaw, tagging Sanchez with a pair of hard, straight lefts. Now it’s Miller upping his aggression, backing Sanchez toward the fence with kicks and then delivering a knee. Midway through the round, Sanchez shoots in behind a punch and double-legs Miller to the ground at the base of the fence. Miller wraps up tight with closed guard, then switches to rubber guard as Sanchez picks away with left hands to the ribs from the stalemate position. Sanchez stands up, looking to reposition on top with one minute remaining, and he stuffs down Miller’s legs when the New Jerseyan throws them up in search of an armbar. Miller soon pulls Sanchez back into guard, but it doesn’t last long, and Sanchez drops a couple hard punches on Miller’s face when he has the room. Sanchez finishes the round strong, dropping some hard elbows on Miller in the final 20 seconds.

Boxing: Unbeaten Julian Williams Takes Aim at Jermall Charlo

Julian Williams is at the brink, entering that larger scale at this stage of his career. “J Rock” likes to say this is the year he kicks the door open to the national glare. Williams (21-0-1, 13 KOs) has already had a long journey getting this far. He will take another step on Saturday, though most expect him to have an easy time of it against Italian Marcello Matano (16-1, 5 KOs), who has never fought outside of his native Italy and never faced anyone close to Williams’ caliber. They meet each other in a 12-round super welterweight title eliminator -- it airs on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/PT -- at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. On two different occasions, Williams missed a combined 17 months due to some managerial complications. Now that “J Rock” is with Al Haymon, his career has picked up. He fought three times in 2015 and is primed to make a push at 154 pounds, with the aim being Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KOs), the IBF super welterweight world champion. The winner of Williams-Matano is scheduled to face him next. “I signed with Al and it’s been smooth sailing ever since then, because everything Al promised me he’s delivered so far,” Williams said.

UFC Should Be Thanking Conor McGregor, Not Nate Diaz, for Saving UFC 196

Since the UFC has so many events and obligations to be made to Fox and the Fight Pass network, it’s not surprising to see the fight cards stretched thin at times. However, when it comes to pay-per-view, the UFC is probably better off being safe rather than sorry in the future. McGregor came to the rescue this time around, but not every champion is the company man that the Irishman has proven to be. The next champion might not be so willing to play by the UFC’s rules. After already losing one pay-per-view card in 2016, the UFC can’t afford to keep dodging bullets.

Undefeated Darrion Caldwell Chokes Joe Warren Unconscious in Bellator 151 Blowout

Darrion Caldwell was indeed ready for primetime. Caldwell staked his claim as the No. 1 contender in Bellator MMA ’s bantamweight division, as he put Joe Warren to sleep with a first-round rear-naked choke in the Bellator 151 headliner on Friday at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The end came 3:23 into round one. A former two-division Bellator champion, Warren (13-5, 11-4 Bellator) was a non-factor. Caldwell (9-0, 6-0 Bellator) executed a pair of takedowns and a spectacular belly-to-back suplex, sandwiching ground-and-pound between the techniques. The 28-year-old advanced to Warren’s back with little resistance, slipped in the choke and waited for referee Dan Miragliotta to intervene. In the co-main event, Fernando Gonzalez climbed another rung on the welterweight ladder with a split decision against former Resurrection Fighting Alliance champion Gilbert Smith . Scores were 29-28 and 29-28 for Gonzalez, 29-28 for Smith. The back-and-forth affair was as competitive as the scorecards indicated.

Preview: UFC 196 ‘McGregor vs. Diaz’ - McGregor vs. Diaz

Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight titleholder Conor McGregor will have to wait for his shot at history. Originally booked in a champion-versus-champion super fight opposite lightweight boss Rafael dos Anjos , McGregor will instead settle for a battle with Nate Diaz in the UFC 196 main event on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The non-title match will be contested at 170 pounds, the result of dos Anjos withdrawing due to a foot injury. In the co-headliner, undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm puts her title on the line against Miesha Tate in her first appearance since upsetting Ronda Rousey in November. The rest of the main card features a pair of light heavyweight scraps, Gian Villante - Ilir Latifi and Corey Anderson - Tom Lawlor , along with a showdown between fast-rising women’s bantamweight contenders, as Amanda Nunes meets Valentina Shevchenko . Let us take a closer look at each matchup at UFC 196 “McGregor vs. Diaz,” with analysis and picks: Wellterweights Conor McGregor (19-2) vs Nate Diaz (18-10) THE MATCHUP: No one is happy about the loss of dos Anjos, but we have to commend the folks at Zuffa for putting together this replacement.

Showtime Boxing Weigh-in Results: Williams, Matano Cleared to Fight

The Sands Bethlehem Events Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, will be the site for Saturday night’s Showtime boxing card as Julian Williams will face off against Marcello Matano in a 12-round IBF junior middleweight title eliminator. At Friday’s weigh-ins, the main combatants made weight, giving the contest the official green light. Williams (21-0-1, 13 KOs), a promising contender from nearby Philadelphia, has taken on a steadily-improving stream of solid opposition. That won’t change on Saturday because Matana (16-1, 5 KOs) is a tough Italian who will look to box his American counterpart. Matano was the first to the scale and he looked as sharp as ever; he weighed in at 150.5 pounds. Williams looked like he was chiseled out of marble and came in officially at154 pounds. The participants in the middleweight co-main event were equally on point as well. Antoine Douglas tipped the scale at 158.75 pounds while opponent Avtandil Khurtsidze was a bit heavier; he came in at 160. Showtime will air the actions live starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Daniel Cormier Perplexed by Jon Jones Fanfare at UFC ‘Unstoppable’ Press Conference

As he was showered with boos each time he grabbed the microphone to speak, it was evident that Daniel Cormier , not Jon Jones , played the role of heel for the fans in attendance at the UFC’s “Unstoppable” press conference on Friday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. And that reaction hurt a little a bit. “Guys, that makes a lot of sense. It really does make a lot of sense. Boo me, yes,” Cormier said before answering the first media question addressed to him. “That makes a lot of sense.” Cormier and Jones will meet in a light heavyweight championship rematch at UFC 197 on April 23. Their rivalry began in earnest with a media day brawl late in 2014 and continued all the way to their bout at UFC 182, which Jones won via unanimous decision. Troubles abounded for Jones after that victory, beginning with a positive cocaine test in relation to that event. It only got worse when he was arrested for fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, N.M., in April 2015. As a result of that incident, Jones was stripped of his 205-pound belt and suspended indefinitely.

She goes 'I'm so (expletive) sick of listening to your mouth' and they started going at it and I pulled them apart. Postal Connections: Conor McGregor, the 209 and Wanderlei Silva

Here we are on the precipice of another Conor McGregor fight, and guess who everyone wants to talk about? We have the haters hoping he gets served that big plate of humble pie, and we have the acolytes who just can’t wait until he trounces Robbie Lawler to take the welterweight title at UFC 200 this summer. We’ll touch on a number of other subjects, from tattoos to Wanderlei Silva , in the latest installment of the Postal Connections mailbag: It sucks that Nate Diaz is probably going to lose to this Irish [expletive] at UFC 196 on Saturday because someone needs to shut him up. Martial arts is about respect, and this guy doesn’t respect a thing. -- Anonymous (email redacted) Well, I’m not sure I can get on board with this statement. First off, if you’re hoping Diaz is the one to knock off McGregor, then I really have to question how much “respect” really means to you when it comes to MMA fighters. As for “Mystic Mac,” in the immortal words of Reggie Jackson, “It ain’t bragging if you can back it up.” Yes, he has done a ton of talking, but the guy has beaten everyone the UFC has put in front of him and he has done it in impressive fashion.

MMA’s Greats of the States | Delaware: Din Thomas

Mixed martial artists come from every corner of the globe, bearing a variety of styles. Sometimes, fighters are products of their environment, favoring disciplines prevalent in the country or state from which they hail. Various regions of the United States are considered factories for great fighters, though that certainly is not the case with each state. In this weekly Sherdog.com series, the spotlight will shine on the best mixed martial artist of all-time from each of the 50 states. Fighters do not necessarily need to be born in a given state to represent it; they simply need to be associated with it. For example, reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight titleholder Robbie Lawler may have been born in San Diego, but few would recognize him as a Californian.
